too bad inquest sucks now.
beckett can't be any worse...
at least they'll have a price guide.
plus it'll be an ALL MAGIC magazine, and not 8 pages of worthwhile magic stuff, 20 pages of useless magic junk and 35 pages of other stuff.
People are still doubting even though theres enough hippie evidence to fill the void in the universe.......WOW.......
Id love to see the doubters at the prerelease and open a 9th box and a hippie in it and shove it straight into their ***!!! *sighs* a guy can dream.....
first off: love your 'tar. spike is the man.
i don't know why you're dreaming about shoving a hyppie into someone's butt... though i'd share in your delight, i think i'd rather keep the hyppie for myself. unless it's an untaidake, the cloud keeper, i won't let any of my cards near someone's behind no matter who's putting them there.
aNia_: The inquest price guide were a big piece of crap
But I think that this prooves it even more. The only other relaistic specter we have to be in 9th is abyssal specter and now we have this specter on the booster box, frong cover of the new magic magazine and even on an official tshirt!! come on! do you really think that abysaal friggin specter would get all this hype and honor? It really shoudnt be any doubt that its hyppie as its really the only specter iconic enough to be on booster boxes, tshirts and the front cover...
I jus mean.. come on!!
as for the craptasticness of inquest's price guides... i always thought they were better than scrye; if not better then at least less inflated. nowadays, however, i can pretty much garner whatever prices i need from ebay and online shops [hint: they're worth less than they sell for there] so the loss of the guide is okay... i'm more pissed that i paid for 12 issues and only got to use 4 of them before they ripped the guide... i mean c'mon... if i wanted articles on good cas decks i'd read any FREE ones i could find on the myriad of sites across the web. plus i'll subscribe to ign or some other equally respectable video gaming mag over inquest anyday.
but, to stay on topic...
if memory serves me correctly they took another uncommon black card (sengir vampire) and made it rare when they reprinted it in black border. random discard aside, it doesn't seem too farfetched that hypnotic specter be reprinted, albeit white bordered.
i agree with nan: there's too many instances of this pic for it to NOT be hyppie.
to those that say 'hyppie never rode anything' i say this: they change artists all the time on cards and with that change come alternate artwork. just because he didn't ride something before doesn't mean he can't now.
furthermore, would you rather have the schuler art in foil or this version (damn you schuler fans for the flames i'm sure to get :D)? i know i'd take the latter any day, and if that means my hyppies have to ride some sort of winged hellbeast instead of floating around on a ghostly tail thingy, then so be it.
not that this helps either side of this argument, but the following pic is over on the beckett magic price guide subscription page (here's the link to the page). hyppie or not i'm glad someone's taking over the slack left by stupid inquest (now with no priceguide, it's just a piece of crap magazine).
art is art, and people's tastes and appreciation will differ (i think his art is mediocre myself... UD's plow under is a perfect example).
but - and this is probably more important - wizards has a product to sell.
there are tons of artists they used for ABU, etc. that are no longer used.
cards, of course, sell because of what they do, not what they look like. if vampiric tutor was a pic of a turd on a stick, people would still be all over it. which is why i think wotc's reason ("sub-par") is kind of suspect.
at the end of the day, however, wizards makes the call.
will i miss his art? probably not.
do i think he got the shaft? probably.
untaidake, the cloud keeper.
hero's demise.
vassal's duty.
hurr jackal.
urza's engine.
almost every 4th, 5th and 6th edition rare.
homelands (except maybe serrated arrows, and only for posterity's sake...).
fallen empires (except maybe... nevermind, it all sucks...).
This card must be fake! Because this card is totally broken!
"Oyobi Who Split the Heavens - 6W
Legendary Creature - Spirit
Flying
Whenever you play a spirit or Arcane spell you may put a 3/3 white spirit creature with flying into play.
3/6
18"
a 3/6 flier for 7 isn't really broken.
his ability is really, really good... but that doesn't make him broken either.
also, there are a bunch of ways to kill him and / or his token spawn (esp in t2... echoing truth rapes those tokens...).
he really shines in limited... t2 he's better than average, not broken.
Veil of Secrecy - :1mana::symu:
Instant - Arcane (C)
Target creature is unblockable and can’t be the target of spells or abilities this turn.
Splice onto Arcane - Return a blue creature you control to its owner’s hand. (As you play an Arcane spell, you may reveal this card from your hand and pay its splice cost. If you do, add this card’s effects to that spell.)
meh.
at least it's spliceable...
gating was good once... maybe it'll be that way this time too. ninjas come to mind.

Roar of Jukai - :2mana::symg:
Instant - Arcane (C)
If you control a Forest, each blocked creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn.
Splice onto Arcane - An opponent gains 5 life. (As you play an Arcane spell, you may reveal this card from your hand and pay its splice cost. If you do, add this card’s effects to that spell.)
so inferior to the black one.
and the splice cost sux (unless i suppose you use that burn spell that only hits your opponent's dome and prevents life gain...).
still crap tho.
this whole cycle is nice.
i wish they'd made this guy a 4/3, but he's still great nonetheless.
he might even see some constructed play.
nothing like blocking your opponent's creatures with your opponent's creatures.
but, honestly, this guy is crap.

i opened this EXACT pack at the release event i went to.

1x reciprocate (wicked sweet art, but mana leak it's not...)
1x rukh token (wtf is that crap...)
oh well...
i only play random fnms so it's my own damn fault.
i've still got my playset of sealed foil togs...

too bad the card is subpar.
it might see occasional limited play, but counsel of the soratami is usually better.
