Regarding the cost of a dual and not getting enough turnout. A local shop just has a rule in place that if they don't meet a certain turnout, they put lesser value prizes up for the tournament. If they get 25 people, they put a Moxen up for first. Can't go wrong either way. Good luck to you, sir. Keep us updated on your situation.
Hello everyone. This is my attempt at building a multiplayer Kaalia deck. I just finished putting it together and should get some games in with it this week.
I'm pretty new to EDH, tried making a deck about 2 years ago, but my local scene is extremely competitive and I was back into Magic after a long break, so games became me just sitting there and watching everyone else play while I discarded and passed turns. I doubt this deck will be able to do much against some of the locals but it's a starting point. I would like to get Damnation, Avacyn, Griselbrand, and Terminus for the deck, as well as replace Day of Judgement with a Wrath of God when I get the opportunity to pick these cards up. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
I'm currently building Kaalia and am pretty new to EDH. Isn't your deck extremely light on land? I was always told that 40 land is pretty crucial. Considering Kaalia decks are expensive creatures, do you have issues with mana?
Just read through this entire thread after seeing the changes. Looking good. One thing I wanted to mention that Warden brought up. It's definitely better to keep things to combo, control, aggro. Having a midrange, aggro-control, etc forum will just muddy things up, make it harder for new players to find things, and comes off as epeen to stand out IMO. If you really feel like this designation must be made for the sake of said deck, have it posted in the primer at the top of the forest page. That should be more than sufficient.
I would really like to see a lot of primers get updated as well. It definitely is a group effort, Legacy is the community that plays it, not a select few names leading the way for the masses. I think every deck should just start discussing and putting together updated information. Generally each thread had its group of regulars, so if we all work together this won't come down to depending on one person to take on a very large task. Perhaps a temporary subforum for primer discussion with a thread for each deck if you don't want to have that in the main threads. I definitely would be interested in contributing to the Enchantress primer. Thanks again for the new layout. Can't wait to see how things look a few months from now when everything is updated and complete.
Seems a bit unnecessary. To each his own, but I just can't see myself running this. I do want to try Sigarda out as a one of or in the sideboard a a Living Wish target. Hoping to get one tomorrow in the prerelease. Off topic, I'm trying to Chinese foil my Enchantress deck out. Does anyone have any Enchantress cards in Chinese foil they'd be willing to trade or sell? I figure it's going to take me 10 years to acquire all the pieces due to rarity alone, the cost of some pieces doesn't help either (windswept heath for $300 on SCG ouch)
I was in that situation for a period of time. The kid is 9, not 2. Have you tried talking to him about his disregard of boundaries? Just explain to him he is more than welcome to look at your valuable Magic cards and play your video games with your approval and/ or supervision. My little brothers were the same way with wrecking video games and getting **** sticky. I always made them wash their hands anytime they wanted to play with my video games or Magic cards. They're 25 and 18 now and I still tell them both to wash their hands before they dare touch one of my sleeved Legacy decks. I would imagine a little talk with him should definitely solve a lot of the headaches. Good luck, interested to hear if that helps you out.
When I first saw Sigarda, Host of Herons I too thought about using her to combat Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. I have a decent amount of players in my meta who run him (elves, Show and Tell, Cloudpost), and the annihilator trigger is the hardest thing to deal with. So many games where if I could survive it for a turn, I could tutor up an Oblivion Ring to ensure a win. I had a match last week against Cloudpost where I had an Oblivion Ring in hand, but after the annihilator trigger, I was 1 mana short to cast it. Her being in our colors definitely makes it look a bit useful. I'm not sure if it will prove viable, but it's definitely worth testing
I was looking at Cavern of Souls and have been considering trying it out. One of my worst matchups is against decks using Surgical Extraction. I hate that card so much, it's pretty much an auto loss and has made me play my beloved deck a lot less. It's also the reason I've been trying to make a Living Wish build. To make it consistent, I'd probably need to run 3-4, which I'm not so excited to do, but it may just be the necessary piece to fight the Stoneblade decks that everyone and their mom plays. Sucks this card is $23 at the moment, when I first saw it spoiled I thought it was a $5 card and nothing more. Snapcaster Magehas pushed this card to a necessary must in Standard I guess. I'm going to try and do some play testing this week when I get together with my fellow Legacy players. Should get a decent amount of games in Friday before the midnight prerelease.
I've been doing some testing over the past week with a friend who's been trying out Esperblade builds with Lingering Souls. This matchup is very favorable for us. Played around 20 games between 2 people and it's about a 75-80% win record. Defense of the Heart has been very strong. There were a few games where he had Karakas in play so going for 2 Argothian Enchantress to get my engine online was my only option. It's amazingly strong. I think this card has definitely earned a permanent home in my build.
I think this would be a great idea for in store events. It could definitely bring new players to the scene who can't afford to purchase a competitive Legacy deck. It definitely has issues that would need to be worked out, but would be very beneficial for everyone. Stores make money, get new blood into a format, and lets people test drive Legacy, possibly getting them to make purchases they otherwise would never have. A store considering this could try and work with players who do have larger collections to lend the cards for this for a part of the fees as well.
Really loving Treacherous Pit-Dweller. I have a UB tempo deck that runs Phyrexian Dreadnought and Torpor Orb, this seems very fitting for a much needed threat. Overall, this set seems to have a ton of Legacy playable cards. Innistrad and Dark Ascension were pretty meh to me. Avacyn Restored, has me pretty excited to toy around with, and start drafting again since New Phyrexia.
With Lightning Mauler, can you choose to pair it with a new creature every time another creature enters the battlefield? I had read soulbond as a one time thing. If that's not the case, he seems really good. Really loving the Pit Demon as well! Go go Torpor Orb!
Don't lay down Chalice until you get Welder in play. Your deck seems like an average starting build. I removed the keys from mine. Also you really should play Faithless Looting, it really helps fix the inconsistency the deck suffers from. Get yourself a Staff of Domination, you can go infinite with it. The deck does pretty well for me and my brother in this meta. Turn 1 or 2 Lodestone wrecks a lot of things.
I was discussing the use of forbidden orchard with a friend today. Its very cutesy IMO. Something to pull off against combo. The best way to use it would be with Living Wish as you don't want to run more than 1. Even then it seems slow. Worth testing but i'm not so sure it will prove to be viable. I'm going to proxy my Living Wish package up tomorrow and let you all know how it goes.
I did the same thing as you for the longest time. I traded and bought cards to build almost every tier 1 deck only to be playing something different every few Weeks. It's definitely not a bad habit as it you learn the strengths and weaknesses of everything you play. I played every version of Bant, Countertop, uw Stoneforge, Epic Storm, Maverick, Affinity, Team America, BUG, Esper Control, RUG, Dredge, Metalworker, Merfolk and then it happened. I discovered Enchantress. So much time assembling tier 1 decks and my favorite deck is 1.5 haha. I still change what i'm playing, but it's my go to deck. I love everything about it and want to master it. Look at and proxy all the decks you can, not just the flavors of the week. Get Cockatrice, a free version of MTGO. You may be surprised by what you find is that special deck for you. Maybe its Belcher Good luck!
