Being able to hit 1 mana and moxen for one is a big deal, it’s a big part of the allure of portable hole for people.
Why I like this in comparison
- artifact/enchantment hate has drastically improved in the last few years. [card/card] Pest invasion vs Indrik stomphowlerfor example.
- most decks in my cube are not mono colored, and 5 color fixing or off color moxen make it so hitting that third color is not unlikely, heck even a fourth is possible.
I just think for 0-1 mana cards ending is better, for 2 mana cards hole is better, and for 3+ ending is obviously better. I don’t think hole is enough better for a 2 mana card to swing in its favor.
I think I’m less high on some of the multicolor removal in the list, but conspiracy theorist has been pretty huge value in limited for me, so I’m going to test it if I can find one for cube. I think it could either be the hidden gem of the set or trash...
163 views and no comments? Guess I’ll start it off. This could be a pretty good card, but literally being useless by itself is a huge drawback. I think if he is good it will be on the back or spamming his -2. However I think he’s whites third best 3 drop pw.
As an aside was really hoping or a lorwyn or alara planeswalker. Flamekin Lorwyn faeries and goblins, all are aesthetically unique, whereas human from plane 47 is getting old
I feel like in decks where overrun is used, overwhelming stampede will almost always be better, power creep has made it so i almost always have a 4+ power creature.
one of the best things about beast within is turning a nonceeature into a creature. Turning nicol bolas, planeswalker into a useless 3/3 is its strength, not so much turning primeval titan into a 3/3.
I’d say this doesn’t compare favorably to beast within as removal. The can trip does make it interesting though.
I feel like there is one card every set that I completely disagree with the mtgs cube community. This is that card this set. I think that I would never want to spend 5 mana to scry 2 and the number of cards that would slot themselves in above this castle is astronomical. Blue utility lands like shell dock isle, blue man lands like the faerie conclave, blue utility lands like halimar depths, or academy ruins, or pretty much anything. This card gets a hot garbage/5 from me. If my control deck is using this ability, it’s already won, or my cube is the durdliest thing ever.
Edit: my reading comprehension is bad, seems to be a middling consensus, but I think this is legitimately a bad card.
I thought this gave you one food token on etb for some reason and was pretty hyped. Spoiler: it doesn’t. Questing beast killed any remaining hype I had for this.
It's a super expensive combat trick that's always going to cast at least RR. If you're casting this for 2-3 mana in a red deck, you've probably already won.
I disagree with this. In a vacuum, or in previous years I might agree, but looking at reds three drop section in particular in the past few years, we’ve got loads of token generators. Hanweir garrison alone makes this a 3 drop. Tokens have increased over the last few years and this might be a legitimate contender for cube. There are plenty of games I swing with a hanweir garrison and don’t autowin.
I think I might be excited about this thing if the rummaging didn't cost anything
ah yes, I too wish I had a hastey creature with the attack trigger "Kill each opponent as long as my library is more than their life total."
Thanks for the sarcasm, otherwise I wouldn’t have noticed the loot deals 1 damage! This actually has me thinking about testing it now. People were all excited about the new narset and wheel of fortune effects. This could be an absolute slam dunk in the right cube, and small powered 360s I feel like have the highest density of these effects.
Voracious hydra
rotting regisaur
Hanged executioner
Elvish reclaimer are cards I’ll test, not sure any will be around long term, but I’m glad because modern horizon hurts the bank, pulled Wrenn and six in my one draft, but those lands are expensive.
I’ll miss you the spoiler season with you jerks though.
Cloudkin Seer is absolutely good enough, but I'm not sure I care enough to add it. Vampire of the Dire Moon will go in over Typhoid Rats at some point unless they print another strictly better deathtoucher I like better.
The only card I'm mildly excited to try is Elvish Reclaimer. Since the pickings are so slim, this set will mostly pass me by.
Only card I’m remotely interested in is elvish reclaimer too.
Also sorin is on my, could be a good cube card one day. I honestly think he’s bonkers if we get some good vampires, but the chances of that happening aren’t super high.

Prismatic ending is just better imo
