I think it's actually harder to design an event deck than most people realize. The deck has to be watered down so that people can buy it to play and not just for value, but it has to not suck that bad even when watered down (so no Jund for example, since we know it's unplayable without the money cards). It also must not be too complex - a deck like Storm is a bad choice for someone totally new to Modern with no prior experience outside of creature-era Standard.
Off the top of my head merfolk, tron, affinity, and burn being good places to look
Revoker has a more broad role in a deck than pithing needle. It can pause a threat, and attack for 2, or chump block. Basically you want revoker over needle when you want the effect in your deck, but also need 4 creatues in that slot.
Of the most-played creatures in Modern, the three- and four-drops have a very high bar for playability. Three-drops need to either pass the Bolt/Decay test OR "cast a spell" when they enter the battlefield (i.e. have an immediate impact). Four-drops must BOTH pass the Bolt/Decay test AND cast a spell when they enter the battlefield.
Whether played as a virtual four-drop or a hard three-drop, Tracker bombs on both measures. It's always dying to Bolt and Decay, it doesn't have an immediate impact on turn three, and it only has a conditional impact on turn four if you have the fetchland to pair with it (while still dying).
Cards can see play in Modern while dying to Bolt. Unfortunately for Tracker, she misses all the other benchmarks too.
Yep, discussions like these are the reason I wrote that article! Just read through it and apply the principles outlined to Tireless Tracker, and you'll see why it's Modern unplayable. Or sleeve it up yourself and find out the hard way
Doesn't olivia fail the bolt test and not cast a spell when she enters the battle field. Does she still see some play?
These lists are awesome. Great work Volrath and Equinox. I think Flametounge Kavu would be a fine card in modern right now. It would go well in Jund decks (maybe as a sideboard card) and it would slot well into the Kiki Chord decks like Hooglands deck. I agree with Ayiluss that I don't see it getting a reprint any time soon, but it would be an interesting card for Modern in my opinion.
On another note, I did send an email to Wizards last week about adding Opt to the modern format. They responded very quickly and said that they have sent my email to the decision board. They also said that they value player's opinions very highly so if you want to see some of these changes, just shoot them an email (on wizards.com customer service). I realize they would say they value our opinion no matter what, but the response was very personalized and was not a blanket comment so I really do feel that they take the emails very seriously.
Honestly I don't think Opt is very good and would see much play, it's basically a worse Sleight of Hand at instant speed.

Secure the wastes isn't fetch able with ranger
Think of it as scry 1, then draw a card.
