The End of an Era

Its really a good example of how our government "works"... This particular law/act/whatever basically took the old standard and lowered it so more kids could pass... So instead of actually making education better, they just make it look better... Literally everything the government has done in my lifetime has been for one appearance or another... Maybe thats why actors can succeed in politics- its a lateral move for them...

Another example is the current security measures in place for our airports... Does anyone actually believe they are any safer today than say, 15 years ago? Of course they do, because things have been made to appear safer... I guarantee if somebody was determined to hijack a plane today, it could definitely be accomplished (not sure what the end result would be, but the act of hijacking is not terribly difficult)...

Another example is our economy... The government put forth a stimulus package in 2008 that was promised to save our economy and get things back on track... It did neither, but at the time, it gave the appearance that those worthless ****s in DC were doing something...

IMO, the best way to improve our education system is to start with the teachers- we don't need more, we just need better... Do away with the unions that instead of protecting "good" teachers they mostly allow for subpar and mediocre teachers to still have jobs because they take away the incentive to actually earn their place as teachers instead of garnering the "right" to be because of their seniority...

  • posted a message on Innistrad Prerelease/Release - post your decks and stories here!
I am just about the worst limited player you will ever meet... I usually cant win even when I open retarded bomb rares... Anyway, I went to the prerelease just to have fun (a 6 pack sure helped), and I opened a bunch of crap rares (I got the black exile w/flashback, the flashback fireball and the red transformer that gives attacking guys +3/+0 when transformed)...

Then I went 4-1 in a 60 player event (it was 5 rounds and then placement by standings/tiebreakers)... I placed 3rd, the absolute best I had ever done in a limited event... I ran b/r and I had mostly solid removal and several deathtouchers and the ability to win w/o creatures (the b/r shock land, guys that throw burn when they die, etc.).

I think I lost 3 games total the entire day... For a true spike (according to their player test), I had an absolute blast this time around...

I would assent with "Mark Rosewater", who I suspect is too young to actually remember when Slayer was relevant, despite the flashing album avatar. Wink

When is Slayer not relevant is the question... I have seen them over 50 times.... I assure you, this is a true ****in slayer fan...

Just an honest question, and I have several individuals in mind. If this is appropriate, I will name usernames... Otherwise, I will probably just stop using this site altogether and advise every single person I know to do so as well...

Just wanted to wish everyone a very happy 420. I certainly hope everybody "celebrates" accordingly. Whether you are a sick ☺☺☺☺ and wish to celebrate Columbine or honor Adolf Hitler on his birthday. Or if you wish to pay homage to a tradition which started at San Rafael High School quite some years ago.

    Quote from Metal Elvis
I heard a rumor that the PA was written in 1995. I have looked for proof but been unable to find any. Does anyone know if this is true or false for sure?

I hate the patriot act. They shoulda called it the "Nanny Act, part 18 or so".

It's true that it was written in 1995. By good old Joe Biden. The guy from the party that supposedly "cares" about the little guy wrote legislation that stripped said little guy of his rights. How kind of him...

  • posted a message on Deeper Meaning / Hidden Message in Popular Music
Most of the music I enjoy uses lyrics in a metaphorical sense which isnt the same as being a hidden code but similar i suppose.

The backwards content in some music created with the backmasking recording technique is fairly widely used. According to Wiki, the Beatles blew it up in the 60's. It is thought by most people to be subliminal or satanic. Johnny Cash used it to praise jesus (not mentioned on wiki) and Jay-Z has the words "Murder, murder, jesus 6 6 6." (also not mentioned).

  • posted a message on Proposition 19
Prop 19 is a California state ballot initiative which allows Californians to vote on whether or not pot should be legal for general consumption. In 1996 California voters passed Prop 215, which legalized pot for medicinal purposes. Following that, SB420 provided organized structure for medical marijuana program simplifying the process for patients to access their medication. Earlier this year, the Governator signed legislation that effectively decriminalized marijuana possession for small amounts. This reduced the offense from a misdemeanor to an infraction while leaving the fine structure the same.

If Prop 19 passes, Californians will fight an uphill battle with the federal govt. mostly due to the supremacy clause in the US Constitution. This clause states that if federal and state laws oppose each other, federal law overrules state law. The federal govt. has classified marijuana as a schedule 1 controlled substance under the controlled substances act of 1970. Schedule 1 also contains GHB (date rape drug), heroin, LSD (acid), and MDMA (ecstasy). In schedule 2, you find cocaine, methamphetamines of various form and prescription opiates like Oxycodone and Morphine.

Its truly interesting that marijuana is still classified as harshly by federal standards and this has led to the incorrect assumption that it is justly classified due to it being a "gateway drug". The real reason it was classified under schedule 1 is because THC has hallucinogenic properties and all other hallucinogens are in schedule 1.

Getting back to the political debate of this issue, the supporters are hammering the tax earnings aspect while the opposition has attempted to discredit the tax earnings projections and also claims that passing 19 would make our schools, workplaces and roadways unsafe because prop 19 doesn't define a threshhold of intoxication for legal precedent.

  • posted a message on Illegal Immigration up on the box again
    Quote from Mark Rosewater
I think they should track all the illegals down and just kill them. The world is over-populated anyway. People should know their place and stop trying to take mine away.

I received an infraction for the quoted post because I stated my honest opinion. This whole issue is asinine. The feds are going to sue AZ for making the state law mirror what the federal law already is. It sounds to me like the state of AZ has decided to take action on its own after waiting for the fed govt to do something like enforce the laws it writes. But after so much time, when a state decides it needs to do something to protect itself, the fed govt gets all butthurt and sues them.

To the mod: At least my opinion represents a solution. I guess that must be why you keep pestering me. You spend all your time in cyberspace fantasizing and someone who comes along with an opinion on how to decisively solve a particular problem is a threat to your fantasy. Awww im sorry.

I think the reason I keep "pestering" you is obvious enough, but this thread isn't the proper place to contest your infraction.

What is the proper action to take against a mod who is being abusive, oppressive and vindictive with their "enforcement" of forum rules?

Maybe later I'll set forth my case for all the community to see...

  • posted a message on Building a utopian state
We have the ultimately balanced Utopia right now. Look at this with a bit of common sense: If everything were always good, how would you know that it was? There would be nothing to balance the good or to contrast it. Same goes for if everything was bad. You cannot possibly know that something is good unless you know what bad is also.

This is a deplorable intrusion by our govt. in my opinion. Even though I ain't got ☺☺☺☺ to hide, I'd hate to come under scrutiny that gets around the standard due process of law (ie the warrant) by the folks who enforce the law. It is not up to them to decide what the law means. That is a Judicial branch function as set forth in the Constitution. They just attach a few buzzwords like terrorist etc. and people turn that blond eye. Wake the ☺☺☺☺ up please because it will just get more and more oppressive if these people are allowed to continue their tyranny amongst us.

  • posted a message on Hunting: The only ethical way to eat meat
I'm not exactly clear on why you think hunting is the only ethical way to eat meat. I think its perfectly ethical to go to the store and purchase meat which I cook and eat as opposed to going out and hunting for it. I don't really have the time to do all that hunting anyway. I have quite a busy schedule in the city where the hunting is terrible (unless you're hunting illegal immigrants) and find it logically impossible for me to bend to your proclaimed ethic of hunting.
