Why are nacho and Tammy both on the same team. I can only be in a game with one of them.

Imagine that every card is exactly 1 dollar. Every one from lotus to dark ritual, from tarn to tabernacle.
Now ask yourself how many packs of the next set you would purchase. If the cards are weaker, the answer is none. If they are stronger- lotus for 6 mana- then you buy a box or two. The argument that the pool of players is reduced by cost is always going to be correct, even at every card being a dollar, because some potential players may not want to play 75$ dollars a deck. If everyone could play vintage ad legacy and modern fewer people would play standard. Anecdotally everyone knows a standard player who wants to play modern or a modern player wishing the could shoot Legacy, or a Legacy player who wished they could play power 9 vintage. If they could for 75$ fewer would play the Std train wreck.
If 2 dollar fetches existed, as pointed out above, you simply increase the burden of cost elsewhere, because it is analogous to sticking your fingers in the damn and a new leak springing out.
Wizards cannot win, because a secondary market exists, and their partners in the game run it, and as one card gets cheaper others go up.

I suggested a baseline of 15 dollars for a fetch, which is not beyond most casual players. That could be achieved by a standard set reprint, which is what many on here want more of. I certainly would support mailshots and store promos with the more essential cards too. But 50 dollar legacy decks would only reduce people buying new boosters, even if they got the new booster design correct....

Why do people buy board games? The resale value for a board game is horrible and collectors keep them in immense collections.

The cheaper the game, the more people will play it. The only problem is that WOTC are pussies and don't dare to make the life of traders hard.

posted a message on I'm concerned about the "entry cost" for Magic Arena. Should we be worried?
@Katie Do you currently play Magic Online? If not, why not? It meets all the requirements you have. Standard deck prices are in the low hundreds. Cards are tradable and salable so it costs much less than the sum of the individual decks you buy/trade into. Leagues exist for playing with prizes on the line, or if all you want to do is play casually, you can play for free as much as you want in the Open Constructed area. I see you have a Hearthstone background, but why wait for Arena when Magic Online provides everything you're asking for?

MTGO is not free to play. It also costs $10 just to get an account. Simply put I'm not going to spend money to use a program that is horrendous when all other card games on the market are free.

C'mon people. You know you want to play this game. Neighbourhoods make everything so much better. You can be a simple vanilla and still do stuff at night.

I'm wondering if I'm losing my interest or if MTG just gets worse. Eldritch Moon kinda sucked, too. I was just interested in Emrakul and Liliana, but the set had nothing else to offer.

And I'm so sick of awful mythic rares worth less than some uncommons and seeming really weak. Back then when mythic rares were introduced (Shards of Alara), they seemed so cool and powerful at first sight.
They looked like cards you really wanted, representing the flavor of their planes.
Now, I think mythic doesn't even need to exist anymore. Cards like Hangarback Walker for example are rare, while utter trash like Behold the Beyond is mythic.

This is perfect evidence that no matter what WotC does, people will whine. Everyone endlessly complained about how mythics were supoosed to be big splashy timmy cards, not spike two drops that would be outrageously expensive, and now we're complaing about the exact opposite and saying it's a reason MTG is getting worse. They can't win.

The mythic rarity was a mistake since the beginning. All these complaints have in common that mythic rarity is dumb.

It probably sells more packs though, because young Timmy buys a booster and goes like "Whoa I got a super mythic ghost rare shifted thing. This game is amazing."

Guys I think I'm going crazy.

The card has the word nonlegendary on it. Why is everyone talking about the Legend rule?

Also this card doesn't work with [Wirefly Hive]. There is no interaction.

posted a message on Pros and Platinum Pros changes
    Quote from Hammerhiem »
It might seem weird on the Surface but take into account that with LSV, Finkle and Brad Nelson in the Top 8 (two of whom aren't even Platinum pro's.) and the twitch viewing figures where 12,000...

for those Bad at Maths that works out to $7.50 per viewer for probably the most stacked top 8 of all time.

It's obviously bad business and the attitude of certain Pro players have not helped either. In fact not just certain, I would say that at least half are either rude, obnoxious or just plain Invisible when it comes to the community and really that's what they are being paid for.

Maybe if they fixed the stream to make it actually viewable more people will watch it. I cannot understand a thing that's happening on stream, because the quality is so bad.

posted a message on April 4 banlist update - Eye of Ugin, Ancestral Vision, Sword of the Meek, Lodestone Golem
Ancestral Vision is probably going to increase in value.

I'm not sure if Sword of the meek and Thopter Foundry have a chance against the meta game.

posted a message on Mana weaving before shuffling - cheating or not cheating?
It's cheating because the definition of cheating according to the DCI only require the advantage to be perceived. Cheating is a real OR perceived advantage. Mana-weaving is done to increase the quality of your hands/draws (by removing mana screw/flood, for example) weather or not it does that is irrelevant: You're trying to gain an advantage from outside the game, and that's cheating.

Based on this, if I show up with my favourite ring and show up at a tournament and I think I get better draws while wearing it is it considered cheating?

This is just another reason why the DCI rules are completely bonkers.

posted a message on Updated - Did Wizards hint at Emrakul or Marit Lage on Innistrad in 2012?
I really hope that in whatever way wizards ends the story it won't end up disappointing.

I really enjoy the speculation. It's really well thoughts by Wizards to make everyone interested in the story.
