So this really shapes how limited is likely to be. At uncommon it is highlighting a need for wide or tall removal in a cost effect manner.

Remember if this set didn't need a rolling thunder effect at uncommon we would just see a starstorm effect at rare.

Prepare your britches kids, limited will be insane.

Languish looks really solid in modern. Goyf, siege rhino, tasigur, and angler all live through it.
Notable creatures that probably aren't paired in color that survive are wurmcoil, titans, and.... And that's it?

posted a message on [[BNG]] Banned/Restricted List Update (Bitterblossom unbanned and more!)
BFD. It's okay to have good and great cards in a format like Modern.

I think banning DRS was a poor decision. He didn't do anything degenerate like Hypergenesis or Blazing Shoal. He was just a good, strong, splashable card.

He was just a good, strong, splashable hybrid one drop that accelerated mana, gained life, and clocked an opp. all while attacking the graveyard.

Any one-drop that puts Grim Lavamancer to shame should probably not exist in general.

I mean, the list of black decks splashing green and green decks splashing black for this one card was insane. DRS was stifling aggro, graveyard, and prison decks, just be existing. It was too good not to be a 4 of in your 60. That seems to be a bit too much for a simple one-drop.

So a new player decides he wants to play legacy. Drops 800 bucks for a playset of underground seas. Two weeks later its reprinted, he immediately looses money.

The guy who has played for 20 years, got his duals for 10 bucks a piece ( i remember the troll and toad sales papers marketing 9.99 duals). They reprint underground sea. If they drop 50 bucks a piece even (unlikely) it doesnt matter, this guys is still a winner.

Who looses more money? The person trying to get into the format. If the reprint drops underground sea to say 150.00 instead of the 200.00 (scg prices) the new player looses his initial investment, or at least a part of it.

The reserved list does a good job of protecting both of these people and allowing players to invest in eternal formats. The supply is capped, but the demand for these cards is still pretty strong, otherwise they wouldn't continue to climb.

The people complaining about eternal prices seem to think wizards owe them something. The people who have played the game for 20 years now earned what they have...and to be honest if your trying to get into legacy at this point, im sorry but your going to have to pay the price. If this makes you mad, just remember we also have Limited, Standard, and now modern.

As far as ftv is concerned...everyone needs to calm the **** down. You had an opportunity to preorder this months ago. Don't say you didn't because thousands of people, myself included, knew how many we were getting long before Jace was spoiled. We figured it out, you could have too with a little work and a little less whining. This should serve as a lesson....don't wait until last minute. And if you do either pay the prices and keep quiet, or move along.

    No.
Petty people consider their cards "investments". Things like -http://www.thehartford.com/mutual-funds/- are investments.
Magic is a hobby. It may be a hobby you could potential make money on. Infact you can make a living running a card shop. But it is not Wizards job to make sure your old cards hold value. Wizards made an ill promise of a reserve list.

If legacy/vintage prices didn't exceed 50$ on any card people would flock to it. Modern is booming as an affordable eternal format, legacy and vintage would easily grow.

Even if every single person who controlled a set of duals, power nine, and any $100+ quit the game when prices plummeted; new players would still love to play the new full eternal formats. And if a player is such a sack of salt to whine about the barrier to entry of vintage and legacy being broken down then they need a reality check that we play this game of Magic for challenge and innovation.
Formats like pauper exist for two reasons- limited card power and a low barrier to entry. Most of the people I know mostly play for that low barrier. If you allow more formats to cost less then players will diversify in what formats they support.

Playing Magic shouldn't be some awful game of seniority where veteran players get a pass on spending a fortune to play amazing formats. Every player should have access to any format within a moderate budget.

There are sports you can play if you want to keep out the poor people.

Pros (that have power and such) and one of the largest secondary card retailers for MTG are in favor of the removal of the reserve list:
    http://www.channelfireball.com/videos/magic-tv-show-6-part-1-of-2/
LSV and Scanlan are owners in Channel Fireball- so please don't tell me that LGSs will sink if the reserve list is abolished.

You do realize this is how most stores make their money right? You should really quit yapping at this point its kinda embarrassing.

A good LGS, will make **** loads of cash on the secondary market. Without the secondary market, most retailers would fail. Your point is invalid, as usual

Firstly, if you disagree with me on this thread, fine, but please address the bold in general. Just go find two or three cases where I am incorrect in other threads, because I would love to see my string of incorrect statements that will back up your slanderous claim.

    On topic:
Most LGSs make their money on secondary markets from micro transactions. I know plenty about how shops work- they don't place the health of their business in highly violate cards, they don't carry high stock in high price, hard turnover cards- which is what power nine, duals, and barrier to entry cards like The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale are.

The business model of an LGS that uses the secondary market is that of any good business that addresses a secondary market., high turnover, high volume, and consistent microtransactions.
But go on, explain how removing the reserve list would kill Magic, Wizards, and LGSs across the world.

posted a message on I'm thinking of learning a martial art, any recommendations?
On topic, any weapon is pretty unrealistic to carry. MAYBE an extendable baton (or gun, or knife, but those are also dangerous to carry).

I've done a bit of work with Filipino arts, and they are very effective, but most are lock based or stick based. They are also very offensive as opposed to defensive.
If you are willing to carry an extendable baton, I'd consider them as a great choice.

Encroaching Wastes... what? Come on. Wasteland was fine.

It reminds me of when they nerfed Ancestral Recall to Brainstorm.

We all know only 2 of these cards are playable.
