Mox Opal is even more surprising to me. If it didn't have Mox in the name it really seems like a $5 card.
yup... if it was called anything else, nobody would care. It would be a card that people discovered as the block moved on, not one that people are trying to build a deck around just to find it's not that powerful.
I wish they just would have reprinted Chrome Mox... would have been more helpful...
And with mythics, generally half or less are actually good, so you in fact are chasing a card that is approx 1/8 rares and even then only a 50/50 chance of being a. good or b. valuable. So now it's to a point where to most folks, it's not even worth buying packs.
After an abysmal M11 box, I swore off sealed product. Only packs I open I pass left/right/left...
The best use of persecutor someone suggested about a month ago, was use him in W/B control with Day of Judgment and Consuming Vapors.
I'd start there.
and mimic vat... as stated above... splash blue for jace and leak... yay!
honestly, that deck is still a work in progress for me... it's tough to beat aggro... luckily aggro isn't as good at the moment... I'm sure that'll change though... weenie always comes back!
We said a long time ago when Koth was spoiled that RDW was going to rotate and that Big Red "Covetous Dragon" style decks were going to be back alive. That is exactly what happened. I think XDarkAngelX hit it on the head.
Koth fits both of those strategies. He provides a 4/4 you have to deal with basically every turn (constant pressure), he provides Metalworker type mana to get out big fat creatures like a leveled dragonlord or Hoard-Smelter Dragon, and his ultimate basically seals the game since it is nearly impossible to race.
Koth isn't the kind of PW you're going to play if you want to keep throwing Ball Lightnings and Hellspark Elementals around. But since that RDW rotated. Koth creates his own deck.
sorry, but Koth fits in both...
Of course not pre rotation RDW, but RDW has slowly been making a change from it's uber agro to a bit more balanced... of course guide is still there, as well as geopede, but using Kargan and kiln fiend to replace hellspark and hells thunder...
and let me tell you, this deck is potent... much more so than pre rotation RDW... it wins turn 4 or 5 often and if it goes longer can still win...
Koth fits pretty much any mono red deck...
Heck, I could see him in RG decks as well. Double ramp!
that said, he should be $20-25... he's no jace or elspeth 1.0
I run 4 roils and 3 unsummons, and cross my fingers, he hasn't been a problem yet. Along with only one copy of him, I run 3x mimic vat to remove and copy him asap.
how do you mimic vat him if you bounce? you need to keel that bad boy to vat him...
I heard Jace 2.0 is good to run with the persecutor as well...
In mimic vat, jace and gideon help getting rid of the persecutor.
You could also use consuming vapors.
Cool you got the infect/proliferate combo, but I wouldn't bank on 4x roil and this to get rid of the roadblock to victory... I'd say you want at least 8, perhaps 10 outs...
There are some serious balance issues with these decks haha.
The Tezz deck has won thus far 9 out of 10 games. We have switch the decks between the players.
The Elspeth does a good job at knocking down life fast, but doesn't have any good finishers. Convoke is a horrible mechanic for this deck since its creatures need to be attacking not just sitting back doing nothing.
Meanwhile the Tez deck has affinity can still have their attackers open or just left to block. Combined with draw power and deck/graveyard manipulation its just too much of an uphilll battle for the Elspeth deck. It gets even worse when Masticore comes into play lol.
I am going to test some more. But thus far these don't seem as balanced as the previous duels deck Phyrexia Vs Coalition.
Has anyone had similar results?
i found phyrexia v coallition to be very unballanced... coallition won at least 90% of the games... probably more...
these decks boil down to the draw...
i found that the elspeth deck wins more consistently, but if the tez deck wins, it takes a ton of turns...

Thanks for any feedback in advance.

I can't see it...
Decent card, yes, but IMHO nowhere near as good as the original... I think mythic-ness is causing the high price.
I hope I'm right, because this card just isn't $20+ IMHO

don't feel bad, i'm lucky if I can playtest once a week... usually I play limited at FNM...

Then he'll be pro at that too...
fireball says hi?
i was thinking he gained all abilites... my fault... lol
