i used to play a valakut deck which this has the same idea as valakut did, only u just dont have to worry about having the valakut on board. how is this deck doing when u guys dont draw destructive force? are the heavy drops good enough as a finisher for you?

One equipment that I personally have been thinking of is the new akromas sword (sword of vengeance) it has a decent low cmc and equip cost to go with this archtype.

the first match up was allies the guy said that he had nothing but creatures so each turn he played like three dudes the game would b over by like turn 5. the other match up wasnt as bad but still didnt stand a chance was a vampire deck. i will admit of course i did make some mistakes during the vampire match but i think i was disheartened for so reason. so any deck that put out more than one creature a turn is just ruining this deck.

got done at fnm tonight and i went 2-2-1 and i need to make obvious adjustments to the deck. even though its common place for blue control deck to do poorly against weenie decks, i found the matchs against them were just auto lose and that i had no chance at all and those were the only loses for that night. i didnt bring a sideboard for a reason to find out what i would need for the deck and it needs a response to the weenie decks. cards i am taking out are the contaminated grounds (which was the obvious weak card) and put in conundrum sphinx. The thing that im enjoying doing with this deck is that i'm to a point of manipulating the deck, which when i view your build it seems like they are lacking those mechanics. other card that i'm thinking of taking out is skywatcher adept for another merfolk. just to update what ive got in the deck heres the build so far.

land is the generic basic pack of dual and man lands with one of magosi actual helped out a lot.i still need some advice for the sideboard espicially against the weenie matches.

i just got done testing my U/b build a little bit and ive got to say that the UW/x control match is a pain. i believe i no what is going to be cut out but id like to test against other decks. i had cut lullmage out before testing bc its just a bad card and put in cystal ball instead. crystal is insanly good for this type of deck. after testing the one card that shined the most was consuming vapors. im also using the one drops skywatcher and cryptologist and am thinking of cutting skywatcher and also the contaminated ground for doom blade or other spell maybe even try dark tuteluge. ive only play tested 2 games so i have no idea for side board so any veteren standard merfolk players that can suggest sb would b helpful.

i toke the liberty to be the true nerd and called wotc helpline and asked about the ruling about gaea's revenge. he answered that they can not release the ruling untill the prerelease july 10th. meaning that any ruling about the card is only speculation. itll only be settled untill the prelease when wotc releases the rulings.

cool thanks every one ive got it now if thats how it is then y cant the card say ~ can only be targeted by green spells to clear all this technical rulings? lol you guys have been very helpfull to not just me but everyone confused by the wording, which was my main reason for raisiing this question so that the game can still b fun.

i can understant the logic of rephrasing the text but this game is built under how the cards are worded. so if the card say nongreen the game looks for nongreen using last known info. the fact that ppl r rephrasing text is making the confusion.

The two cards ask different questions. Doom Blade asks 'Is this creature black? If yes, then I can't target it'. Putrid Leech is black, so Doom Blade can't target it. The fact that it is also green is irrelevant. Revenge asks 'Is this spell green? If yes, then it can target me'. Maelstrom Pulse is green, so it can target Revenge. The fact that it is also black is irrelevant.

wait so when did the card say only targeted by green spells. it says specifically word for word. ~ CANT be targeted by NONGREEN spells. so then its actually asking if the spell is nongreen.

No such rule exists, as this is simply relies on the English definition of the word. "Non-*characteristic*" simply means that the object doesn't have that particular characteristic, or the absence of the "quality" as it were. (There are plenty of previous discussions associated with this, such as "nonwhite" or other "non-*characteristic*", on the regular Rulings forum.)

So, "nongreen" simply means the object isn't green. If the object is green, then it can't be nongreen. Maelstrom Pulse is a green and black spell. Therefore, it can't be nongreen as it has the color green.

how would that tie in with doom blade not targeting [CARD]putrid leech
[/CARD] ive been told this time and time again, but by what ur saying even though putrid is black, the fact that it has green total over rule the fact that its also black and so can b targeted by doom blade. that makes a lot of sense. to me since it specifically states Nonblack it looks for other color than black to be targeted. if it has black then it cant target at all.

No, Maelstrom Pulse can hit it because it's green. It's a green spell, so it can target Gaea's Revenge. It being black makes it no less green. The same goes for any targeting ability of a multicolored green source.

    edit: sarnath'd

it still specifically states that it CANT be targeted BY NONGREEN SPELLS. it checks that if the spell has anything nongreen using last known info. so any nongreen spell cant target.

we really need a rules guru for the ruling on g's revenge "troll shroud ability". my thought is that if the spell has anything other than green it means it cant be targeted. that means any multicolored spell with green should not be able to target it. look at doomblade rulings for example.
