Heartbreaking.
This is simply the only place I come for any sort of Magic information, so I'm not quite sure I'll even be paying attention to Magic as much anymore after close.
Truly sorry to see this go. It is, indeed, the end of an era.

May 1, 2018Crazy Pierre posted a message on All Sets Are Good: LegendsWell, people saying Legends is a bad set...it's not really playable in limited or sealed. A lot of the creatures are very expensive to play. When your best limited beater is Thunder Spirit at 1WW and that's a rare card, yikes.Posted in: Articles
I do have a casual Jasmine Boreal deck that's based on destroying evil, peace prevailing, nature and the odd Shuriken, because I had thought for a long time she held a shuriken in her hand, whereas someone pointed out that she's holding a snowflake. Cards such as Fyndhorn Pollen, Northern Paladin, Southern Paladin, Penatarch Paladin, Cleanse, Shuriken, the meld Gisela and Bruna and so on. YOu get the idea, it's not very good but it's fun!
Legends is one of my fave all-time sets, but I always sucked at pack wars. My best card an Elder Land wurm and his? A Mana Drain lol...

So they just ThOracle or Krark or w/e before the attack goes off, all's hunky-dory.
A little weak for Commander though, despite the callback.
This. The Wild West erased a lot of indigenous Americans and the cowboys v. indians trope was way too flogged in Hollywood lore.
They have some smart writers on there so I'm not too worried, but cowboys v. purple worms idk. There would have to be very few non-humanoid monsters to get me to on-board with money. Make it as close to the setting as possible.
Still, a spicy reprint and the alt art is just fantastic. Good job here.
Nice leak.
Very low power level overall and the card I'm most excited for is an uncommon.
I also am uninterested in the dungeon mechanic overall, so hopefully the reprints are out of the park?
I might pick up the Sagittarian one if it appeals to me; I'm a suck for weird treatments, got four of the MSCHF one just for the Blood Moons, those are sweet.
Good to see Faceless Haven go too, it's just too strong with vigilance and its size, and its side-combo with that book wasn't great either. Just too much going on there, another failure by Play Design.
Pleasantly surprised by no Modern bans, friends and I have just bought into the format so we're pretty happy.
Didn't even know about the Plains (hella cool, I laughed A LOT) but the Grim and Blood Moon alone did it for me. The Grim's art can be found on MSCHF's website, just scroll through their meme list. The Blood Moon art is really different, love it.
This will be the second Secret Lair I get after Stranger Things; it will likely be worth less on an individual card basis, but still sweet.
We had a weekly "Gauntlet" event on Sundays in Ottawa for close to 10 years until the organizers moved on.
Round 1: 4-player pod, no infinite combos. 1 point per player killed, 1 point for last-person-standing.
Round 2: 2 v 2, but players on same team were diagonal from each other like so:
XY
YX
You could table talk but if you wanted to ask about casting a card in your hand, for example, you had to show the whole table.
Round 3: 1 v 1
You had to use the same deck throughout, so you got some pretty neat showings. Ad Naus won a lot, but then meta adjusted and Thalia, Guardian of Thraben shows up, or Thrun, or Azusa. Entrance was $5 store credit and it was split among top...8? I think. It's been a while.
Wizard's Tower did pre-con leagues pre-pandemic, everyone got a pre-con and you all battled in a pod of 4. Then next week you could add $X in upgrades to your deck, based on non-foil pricing at the store. Then $50 upgrade, then $100+. Sometimes you got ganged on and it sucked waiting for the next round, but overall it was pretty fun.
It really is a matter of time until Wizards does this on its own, they don't really need the RC or CAG either way, and they could even incentivize players by allowing the big event winner to make a custom legendary. The salty streamers would have no choice but to get on board because, believe me, they would love to see their face on a Magic card.
