Played it in Ad Nauseam with Infernal Tutor and in Mimeoplasm as a hand dump. It was pretty ridiculously over the top so I took it out of both decks.

  • posted a message on Lich Deck? How? Help!?
I believe I an answer this as my friend Mike Mullen built the only playable Lich deck I ever saw.

He focused on getting more lands in play via Fastbond (at the time) and then using Dark Heart of the Wood (this was waaaaaaaay back in the day) to sac his forests after tapping them. That drew him more cards into more lands. He'd then play a Glacial Chasm and cast a Hurricane for a ton. This was pre-commander and so on even. Smile

The biggest issue with Nekusar is it becomes very boilerplate. Most decks run the Howling Mine, Underworld Dreams and so on and get repetitive. It becomes kind of gimmicky and doesn't really sustain fun after a while. On the plus side, you can do cool stuff with your opponents having that many cards in their hand, like playing with Black Vise effects and so on, or using "Maro" cards (not sure if there are any in Grixis colours...) and so on. Just built a Teeg deck, loads of fun. I play Winter Orb and Hokori, they generally lock down mana long enoguh thta Cyc rift won't matter. Not sure they can even cast the Overload with Teeg out, if all they are doing is a boomerang effect on Teeg, that's fine. I use Runed Halo vs. True-Name Nemesis and Stony Silence is fantastic in this deck as well.

I have a 6-digit number, 1*****, from late -95 and it works just fine.

Same here, but they told me to ad "80" to the six digits for some reason.

This is why I cannot say that Sol Ring should be banned:
    1. There is no turn 2, 4 mana play that spells game over.
    2. It's very possible for EDH decks to equal, catch up to, or even outstrip the tempo advantage created by Sol Ring with a very high number of cards; many of them also artifacts and available to all colors.

    1.Ad Nauseam disagrees with you (turn 3, 2 with more ramp) and Grand Arbiter Agustin turn 2 is pretty oppressive. Even without those, you can ramp into Signets and Zur very early. Or other commanders. It causes your deck to warp around low-cost spells so you can combat Sol Ring;
2.The problem is then you are just adding MORE broken mana to your deck like Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Grim Monolith.

They are not going to ban Sol Ring or Mana Crypt (They find four mana by turn two fine), but as Moxnix explained quite well, you need to play Nature's Claim, Oxidize, Crumble, Vandalblast so you can kill Sol Ring/Mana Crypt turn one. On top of all that, Sol Ring pretty much negates the first payment of a commander tax (tap for 2...) and reduces the next ones by 2, so we're not even playing in spirit of Commander there either.

Unlimited? Imagine opening a Beta starter and having this and Vesuvan Doppleganger as rares...and my buddy had a Volcanic Island and Mana Flare.
Hahha good times, good times but what a terrible card.

  • posted a message on So how is everyone liking the new standard?
It's a lot of fun. Haven't played a whole ton of events but every round has been a different deck and a different set of problems/solutions to deal with. Loving that it's slow enough that playing eightish taplands is actually viable. Love the fetchlands adding an extra bit of mana stability. Most fun I've had playing Standard since Valakut was around.

To expand a bit more on batdown: It's too centralizing AND powerful. If it's allowed, every game becomes a race of trying to get Emrakul out. If someone hardcasts it, they're in an insanely good position. However, there's the race to pull a Bribery on an Emrakul as well, and various other tricks. There really is no need for Emrakul in the formet either with Kozilek and Ulamog legal as it is. I've started playing EDH not too long before Emmy's ban and really, every game seemed to boil down to whoever pulls Prime Time/Emrakul out will be in a hugely commanding position. Which is why it's good those two are gone.

To expand on this, there was a small window where Channel AND Emrakul were available at the same time. You basically needed a turn one or two Edict for it or you instantly lost. Everyone around here had to change their usual decks to have an ealry game answer. It got pretty annoying.

The 10% Banlist listed looks good but they'd never ban thta many cards at once. We can hope that stuff like Mana Crypt goes on the list or so on though, but given the relatively relaxed metagames/leagues the RC has, I do not see this happening. It's basically up to us to dial down the crazy (unlikely im my case, but... :p )

Meh...There's so many better ways to draw cards, UNLESS you're in white, which is probably why this exists, but still. Meh.

Sorry, this is obviously good in monored EDH where it's very easy to be hellbent.

Even white gets a better deal out of Pursuit of Knowledge, if it stis for three turns or you can otherwise skip three draws.
But this is a fun card. Sadly a really aggressive deck won't want to pay 6 over 2R for a Wheel of Fortune, for example, but stil ok.
Would have preferred Dreamstone Hedron reprint.

THe "Boomerang kills the ultimate" is a little narrow view. Her first ability protects herself somewhat and gives you a "germ" attached to any equip, which is awesome. Being able to play an Equipment from hand OR graveyard is pure gravy. If she ever gets to ult, you still have priority on your turn so just equip the blade to a flyer or something with evasion and win more. Boomerang has seen play when in Commander? Capsize is the only playable variant and if you're Capsize locked she isn't hitting the battlefield anyway.

It's a good, flavourful planeswalker. They don't all need to be Elspeth, Knight Errant to be functional.

It's fine. I am going to run it in a few of my green deckcs because my meta is very nonbasic heavy. Dovetails nicely into Winter Orb or Hokori. Dust Drinker as well. Smile Green has needed a big dumb sweeper forever, every colour has one or two (Blue = Upheaval (Banned)Kedrekt Leviathan, Black = Pox effects, all sorts of wrath variants, Red = Jokulhaups variants, White = All the sweepers) so no harm in giving Green a little push.

Proxies won't be allowed at all. Vintage, Cube, and your own formats will have to use real cards.

What's to stop "invent your own format" from interpreting sharpied islands in a certain way? Those are real magic cards after all, and you make the rules for how the cards work.

If it's a sanctioned event it cannot allow proxies, it's that simple. You can run a 10-proxy event at a LGS if you have enough people willing to participate, but if you want to run an "official" Vintage event you need the actual Moxen and so on.

  • posted a message on How can we make Hazezon Tamar into a monster?
A friend of mine had a killer deck with him. The way he worked it is that the Sand tokens are a delayed trigger, so even if you get rid of him they still come into play. He'd usally follow up with a Craterhoof behemoth or he'd copy the delayed trigger with Strionic Resonator and pretty much kill you on the spot.
