Note how they didn't say 1/1 for 1... just a 1/1. Listening is tech.

Brine Seer is easily one of my fav 1/1s. Once you have a full grip and something to untap creatures, you're pretty much set-it's like Scepter-Counterspell, but without card disadvantage.

Best 1-drop is a tie up between Diligent Farmhand and Mother of Runes... once you get past the staples, like Goblin Welder and Grim Lavamancer

My only argument with your article was that you forgot to mention the feel of poison, the connection with reality. What happens when one is poisoned? They get hurt. Nearly all poisons harm the individual before he or she dies. In MTG thus far, this is not the case. Poison has been kept separate from life totals, and it has made it an inherently weak mechanic.

2, :symtap:: Remove all poison counters from target player. That player loses that much life.
At the beginning of each upkeep, that player loses one life for each poison counter they have.
Each opponent's maximum hand size is reduced by X, where X is the number of poison counters on that player
Each creature you control with deathtouch gains Poisonous 1
Each creature you control with poisonous gains deathtouch.
There is still loads of interactions to be made. There just hasn't been enough time or effort put into it

I don't think lifelink ever makes much sense flavor-wise.

It really didn't make sense to me either for a bit. Vampiric Link made sense, 'cause that's what vampires do. But I didn't get it until I played warcraft III. There are 2 units, Blood mage and Dark Ranger with 'channeling" abilities that suck the mana/life out of other units, ( Then again there's a Orc unit that has an ability called "Spirit Link" that links several units together so they share damage... I think it should be called Banding... hehehe). So I attribute that with magic

The Giant stolls onto the field of battle, and is instructed to take goblin A and connect it to hypnotic specter B. He creates the lifelink from himself to the specter and proceeds to throw said goblins at said specter. The goblin hits, the specter recoils in pain, and the lifelink inverts the pain into health going back to the giant. The planeswalker who summoned the giant shares a similar connection, and receives the health from the giant.

If they really wanted to make "Lifelink" flavorable, they would've made the connection go both ways; i.e., Brion stoutarm hits the specter, then is killed by a incinerate... the life travels up his link and into the specter, and into the other player...

    • You may play planeswalker's abilities only on your own turn.
    • Liliana's first ability is one that has NEVER in the history of MTG been on a permanent without a sorcery-speed clause. If you could make your opponent discard at instant speed you would set up a hard lock when that player got down to no cards in hand.

Never say never my friend: Necrogen Spellbomb
That being said, that seems very up-to-date, save the last part about the PWs tapping

Perhaps it is a combination of both?
Think of it like a real-i-zation of the card S.N.O.T.

    You have cards like these:
    Pointy Stick 3
    Artifact - Segment
:symtap:: ~ Deals 1 damage to target creature damaged this turn by a creature you control
    //
    Javalin Arms
    Artifact--Contraption
When the Contraption is assembled, put a charge or +1/+1 counter on it.
If Contraption is an artifact creature, it has first strike.
    Wheelbarrow 2 mana
    Artifact -- Segment
Tap an untapped creature you control: target creature gains haste until end of turn
    //
    Rolling Body
    Artifact creature-- Contraption 1/0
    Haste

Then all you need is a rigger to say "hey, I can make something out of this junk!"
Assemble a Contraption-- :3mana:, :symtap:: Flip 2 segments and attach them to each other. Those cards are treated as one card.

It's flavorful, and it just might work... good call, guys!!

Here are two ideas that may or may not throw you all into a spin: have contraptions as a card type that may or may not be used in your deck.

    think of it like this:
    Elvish Siege Engineer 2G
    Elf Rigger 2/2
Assemble a contraption-- :2mana:, sacrifice a forest, :symtap:: Put a Battering Ram into play from your library or outside the game. Attach it to target creature.

There would also be a corresponding card (much like battering ram)
    Battering Ram 2 mana
    Artifact-- Contraption Equipment
    Equip: 1 mana
    Equipped creature has +1/+1
Whenever equipped creature is blocked by a wall, destroy it

That's one idea. The next one is like it: Assemble things other than contraptions

    Elite Constructionist :2mana::symw:
    Human Rigger 2/1
    First strike
Assemble Fortification--:xmana::symw:, :symtap:: Put a fortification from your library or outside the game with a mana cost of X or less into play. Attach that fortification to target Plains.

Fortifications, such as Darksteel Garrison, could be assembled right on the playing field. Like in other games, the creation of simple objects could become part of the game. Why magically create simple items when your particularly adept can throw them together? Shouldn't the Catapult Squad be able to make catapults of some sort? Why couldn't a technically adept cat (read: Leonin Rigger) throw together a trap just in case you're left undefended? If your opponent makes a Moat, shouldn't you have an engineer build a bridge?

    Portable Bridge 3 mana
    Artifact--Contraption
Ignore all instances of "Creatures without flying cannot attack"

The best part of this idea is you can use the riggers to round out your deck. This is a bad example, but if your metagame happens to have a lot of moats, you have bridges in your library in addition to riggers who can make the bridges. Same with walls and the Siege engineer. A tree stand to make your creatures with first strike be able to block flying creatures? A quick Razorgrass screen when you're caught with your pants down? not a bad idea...

    what do you all think??

Wait, but wasn't the entire point of it to carry us over while we're waiting for the NEXT season of Heroes? I thought it would be coming very soon for that very purpose.

    as Jedit said, nope.

But it seems that they are keeping up with the graphic novels again...
last monday began a 4-part series discussing the beginnings of the Haitian. There is hope for us...

Yeah, because before Highlander nobody had ever written a story about a character with a lifespan of centuries. The Bible? Written after 1986. Rolleyes

Touche'. Except in the Bible there weren't recurring themes dealing with a single character, it's all abbreviated as 'so-&-so lived to umpteen hundred years old, producing sons and daughters... his first son Foo did the same kind of thing, his first son Ezihnyenbt had the same basic idea'.

Don't be silly... king james wrote it in 1611

    Quote from Jedit
Micah's power is machine empathy, as observed in Brian K Vaughan's Ex Machina since early 2005 and in many other stories before that. Molly's power is locating, which features largely in several different forms in Brian Lumley's Necroscope novels (1980s onwards). The boy who sucked the oxygen out of the air - not so much a power, but there's a Stephen King short story where the world is coming to an end and the laws of nature are breaking down. In that story, a couple's young son died when a freak occurrence caused all the oxygen to be sucked out of his bedroom.

I don't mind when people really like something and enthuse, but it bugs the hell out of me when someone finds something cool for the first time and thinks it created absolutely everything.

That's really cool. I'm glad that there's more of it, 'cause Heroes was the first time I personally saw it. I understand your buggyness, I get just as ticked when I heard some kid complain that the fantastic 4 movie was based off of 'the incredibles' and basically went to sleep after I realized "the Village" by M Night Shalyman was just Running out of time that I read in elementary school. Obviously I'm not as well read as you, forgiveth me.
Solomon sarnath'd you though: Ecclesiastes 1.9.

NOooooooooooooo... don't make the ability long life... then eventually you steal your plotlines from highlander. that would be depressing to a high degree. I love the random abilities that make sense, like micah's, hana's, molly's, and the accidently deadly kid in texas mentioned in 5 years gone. The more interesting and different that they make these abilities the more fun the series will be... one of the downfalls of every other story like this is that everyone has abilities that are useful in battle, because fight scenes are fun... it just gets monotonous after a bit.

    Problem:

Even if we agree that Claire was not the decapitated cheerleader, two events, Nathan being president and the bomb going off, never happened.

You say the bomb went off. The difference is that the bomb didn't wipe out all of New York City, which it's clearly shown to do.

I mean, you could say that Sylar/Peter may blow up New York again, which is possible, but unless either has a VERY good reason for doing so I doubt that will happen.

I just checked the wikidatabase of his paintings... The only paintings that have yet to come true are the explosion, hiro facing the dinosaur, micah burning, the rubble of new york and the president in his office. Each of these could very well happen in the future... we don't actually know the span of issac's precognition, so this may mean there are more cataclysmic events to come.

The cool part about this entire season was that Issac was never wrong... the fans, however, were. The thing that you hate Deadly Budah actually doesn't work... the future is never set in stone, but it is. Each and every one of issac's paintings came true, sans the one with petrelli as a president, that hasn't happened yet. Think about it: the painting of peter dying in front of the homecoming banner came true... but since claire was there he 'got better'. Issac prophesied his own death by the evil finger of sylar, and there was indeed an explosion in NYC. Each painting was indeed true, but didn't happen exactly as we as viewers expected it.

    And that's good writing...

All I know is one day at lunch I sit down and my friend Angela is freaked out because some random dude in the cafeteria looked exactly like sylar...

I believe my response was, "Ask him a couple questions: for example, do you like cutting people's heads open?"

Ok so the finale's tomorrow, and I'm stoked... counting down....

Spoilers confirm Zachary Quinto {Spelling?} returns as Sylar is Season 2. So veelans will still be there! As well as the possible foreshadowing of Uluru by Molly Walker in the preview.

Because it's certain that even if Sylar is the bomb, he would survive; just like Ted has after he went into complete meltdown mode.

I did just notice... If DL's truly dead, that means the future was changed: now Sylar can't phase thru things...

umm, well it DOES work but it's risky. you have to pay the Pact's "or lose" cost on your NEXT upkeep. well, with the Hub in play, you don't have upkeeps, but that doesn't mean you'll never have an upkeep.
if the Hub ever leaves play, you'll have to pay the Pact's "or lose" cost during your NEXT upkeep when it finally happens. otherwise, as long as the Hub sticks around, you don't have to pay the "or lose" cost and you can continue playing the game without upkeeps, lucky guy.

It's true... then all your opponent has to do is oust your lands and kill the hub to kill you. It's kinda cool...

I think it was a good episode...
have to happen sometimes. Although it was a very 'unexcited episode' it was needed: they tied some ends, loosed some ends, and it worked in a very comic-book fashion, I loved the penultimate scene, with sylar glorying in his power.

I don't like How ted died without anything going boom... that was very anticlimactic. Anyone else wish that sylar would've melted the door instead of ripping it off??

Why don't they just take Molly?? Thompson's dead, so why doesn't HRG and Matt just explain what Thompson & co was doing WITH her, and Mohinder would jump on without a doubt...
