I am just really curious what this "Damn it was so easy... why didn't we think of it earlier?!" idea of how to balance 4 color/commander identity. I know Maro can sound a bit excited for some mundane stuff (Hyping up the legendary Werewolf and Spider. At least one is a standard player.... the other not so much), I really don't want to be let down...
This is a good move for them. If they had that other set up, Standard players would be paying up the wazoo for Dual lands much faster than usual. Lands is the foundation of any deck, if you gotta buy lands on a faster rotation JUST to play not to mention whatever is hot at the time is quite the money drain. In a perfect world... if perhaps dual lands were set to uncommons instead of rares perhaps they could do a faster setup since buying lands wouldn't be so expensive. But at the rate they wanted? They would burn out the fan base.
Cavern would be an insane reprint. But in order for it to not make whatever the box that has "Cavern" go crazy in price they can just give it the Commander treatment.
Much like how Command Tower is pretty much the beSt mana fixer land but completely useless anywhere else.
Maybe like a land that taps for uncounterable mana for your Commander or creature types that share a type with your commander for tribal synergies. Granted the land will probably still be expensive but at least other formats won't pull a True Name Nemesis debacle.
I know my friend would flip for a Null-Blue Samurai type. Too bad most samurai blow. But would be nice. I wouldn't mind another spider legendary and decent spiders Ishkanah wasn't really made for edh.
Man these are freaking gorgeous. Although I can't see myself dumping that much money on a single card like that. Especially for Crucible of Wallets (Crucible of Worlds)and Money Crypt (Mana Crypt)
Standard is the most-played Constructed format. It's designed as an entry point for players who wish to play Constructed Magic. Through market research and social media, we learned that many of the players who were interested in playing Standard felt it was something beyond their reach. We had to find ways to address this.
Anyone able to explain to me how that works?
Expeditions caused people to buy WAY more BFZ than they would have. A LOT more boosters were opened, and prices for other BFZ cards cratered. So, it was cheaper for people to buy BFZ cards they needed for their decks, making standard "more accessible"
Obviously if people do not care about the inventions and do not end up buying more Kaladesh than they would have, then the argument is no longer valid, but a lot of people love to gamble, so I think it will have an effect.
Obviously Maro could have just come right out and said "yall are going to buy WAY more product because of this, thats gonna be awesome!", but that would have sounded a bit too crass, so he kinda hinted at it, and we got the message.
Pretty much this. BFZ was a weak as hell set. My friend and I were stupid enough to buy a case to see how many we cold crack. What we got? Arid Mesa and Cinder glade. And two players of dragon master outcast. Also to the people comparing this to the whole 100 dollar being folded crap, need to shut up. This is not the same. No one is gonna care if the 100 is folded weird or rolled up weird as long as it's good enough to exchange to the bank and get a new one. Am I guaranteed $100 when I open a kaladesh pack? No. Do I wish they would give at least one masterpiece per pack? Of course I would but wizards will never do that. These masterpieces don't drive down the price of the original card for crap. It will have its own premium due to the rarity. Misty rainforest the expedition version is still worth crazy money as the regular versions.
This only benefits people who crack packs in bulk or draft like fiends. This doesn't bring anyone closer to being able to play Standard unless you get lucky and crack something to sell it immediately.
My redcap dies and then returns with persist. Will the 1/1 goblin token take priority over the redcap when Anafenza bolster ability happens? Or can I still give the bolster counter to the redcap?
Other option, I have global lifelink thanks to whip of erebos and the angel out. If I kill the redcap, will it come back in time to get a +1/+1 counter? Or is it too late?
Cool thank you for the well explained situation with rule numbers! I was just concerned that i needed Nath alive in order to do it. Glad to hear that isn't the case.
I have 10 lands and Nath. I cast Death cloud for more permanents than I have lets say... 15. Do I still get the elves? Or do I need to do less than 10 so that Nath lives to get elves?
At this point, I think a simple Thunderbolt will be enough for Standard. Must be some sort of NWO thing now. No more 1 mana dork (Green), hard counters will be 3 mana (Blue), unconditional creature kill is at 3 mana (Black), Burn is specific or if it hits players+something else it is socrecy speed/other restriction (Red). Can't think of White has lost aside from no more cheap exile removal (Path/Swords).
4 mana Wraths probably. Though the quality of Black's 2 drop removal is not as bad as the others, ultimate price and grasp being the notable examples
Damn you are right on that one man. Forgot that last 4 mana wrath without any crazy restriction was Supreme Verdict.

I noticed no one mentioned Lost Legacy is very similar to Vendilian Clique(card taken from hand draws them a card). Clique is definitely better because it leaves a 3/1 flying body at flash speed but the fact this thing can hit instant/sorceries/enchantments is insane: Especially if the only thing that can beat you is a sweeper or particular spell.
This is nothing like clique. Clique let's you look at their hand and remove the best card. This one maybe hits something in their hand if you are lucky, and even when it does they still get to draw a card for it. It is always pure card disadvantage for the one casting the Legacy.
I really don't get why people feel this is an awesome card, isn't it pretty much a pretty bad extraction-effect?
No its not bad. You get the cards from anywhere. You name Emrakul, you get all of them no matter where they are. If there are any in hand they get to draw to replace them. You unconditionally get to take a whole playlet from their library. And on top of that it has the flexibility of letting you get rid of dead cards if need be. Its only actually bad if they have multiples in hand.
Extraction effects isn't new and this one lets your opponent draw cards for each card removed from the hand, huge downside. So why is this seen as so good?
Lobotomy you can only choose from their hand. If you know what kind of deck their playing but want to name a staple (gout, siege rhino, lightning bolt whatever) you can't unless it's in their hand.
Pick the brain needs delirium and has the same problem as lobotomy. Stain the mind never saw play because you tend to want tend to want to extract then attack once it's safe, making the convoke awkward. Slaughter Games needs a second color but was good during the time in standard when counter magic was kinds decent. Thought hemorrhage just a damage bonus and needs red too.
To be honest this whole "omg they get to draw cards!" Crap is kinda dumb. So what? It isn't a lot of cards. Vendilion Clique and Thought-knot seer timed right is a kick in the balls.
Hell there is the best case scenario, they don't have it in their hands and you just nuked their win con. Worse case I guess would be if they have all freaking 4 copies in their hand but I don't mind if it's some serious threat that I don't want to deal with.
As for Kambal... I love him. Although there should be some anti creature hate bear somewhere. soul barrier on a dude would be awesome.

- Anafenza, Kin-tree spirit
- Murderous redcap
- Archangel of Thune
