I personally enjoy 2 Vendilion Clique over Kira, Great Glass-Spinner. It allows you to pick key pieces out of any matchup, really, and in a pinch you can drop a dead card of your own. Can't advocate for it enough.
I'm also not a fan of Tidebinder in the main, if only a singleton. I don't believe that a 4th Harbinger is necessary, at least for me - I ended up filling Tidebinder's spot with a Spell Pierce and it's worked out great.
Hi guys. I recently got back into sanctioned constructed play, and with Standard leaving a bad taste in my mouth during the last run I had with it (Shards\Zen\Scars..Jund into Cawblade, anyone?) I decided to pursue Modern with my playgroup. We've all been having a ton of fun with it, my buddy plays Scapeshift, one plays Elves, one plays Boros Burn, with a bunch of somewhat incomplete decks in the midst. I decided to run Fish, and I don't think I could be any happier with the choice. It's fun, interactive, and very testing of my accrued decade+ of knowledge of playing the game.
I've currently attended 3 Modern FNMs, and I'll be posting last night's results here. Sideboard tuned for the local meta, Boros\Shadow\Tokens etc, no Affinity at my LGS, thank the Lords.
Round 1: Weird Boros? 2-0
Younger kid that was unprepared for the night, he thought it was Draft before he came. Not much else to say.
Round 2: UW control 0-2
He had an answer to almost everything I did, Seas'd my Mutas, Spell Snared my Lords, etc. Despite that I was able to develop a board presence by sandbagging. Got him down to 7 and recurring Finks kept him in the game, then he went over my head with Restoration Angel time and again to get me down. Game 2 I drew land for 6-7 turns. He told me he hadn't played Fish in a while and I had him scared a few times. Considering he's one of the top 40 in the state: feels good man.
Round 3: Werewolves 2-1
He took game 1, couldn't do much with what I was given. Boarded in Tidebinders which ultimately never made their way into the game, took the next two games by out tempoing and liberal use of Harbinger. A timely Spell Pierce saved my Vial from Revelry.
Round 4: Scapeshift against my best friend, 0-2
Scapeshift got off and Anger of the Gods wrecked me in game 1. I had to mulligan 3 times in game 2 and ultimately never drew more mana. Luck sucks!
Bad luck with some of the draws, but overall it was a fun night. I even got a few "Aw, c'mon man, Merfolk?" as jokes. Had a good time discussing the archetype with a few of the more experienced players, matchups etc. I'm constantly reminded of why I play the game.
Looking forward to going to more FNMs and posting more - unfortunately my LGS only does Modern once a month, and the closest place that hosts Modern more frequently is an hour and a half away. Sad day.
MBC seems viable as all hell, very quality finishers and removal spells popping up. With the addition of Koth, RDW seems to be very nuts indeed. I'm not sure how UW will fare with the loss of Path to Exile and Oblivion Ring, but we'll see.
Reds getting some real nice goodies. Here's hoping to see a truly competitive red deck in Standard.
There was one a few months ago.
Interesting card, it seems RDW is heading towards a Metalcraft\Big Red type of deck. We'll have to see how it pans out with the loss of the key beaters.
I was on the fence, but I had an extra $20 today while at Wal-Mart, so I said ☺☺☺☺ it. Extremely happy with my purchase. I for some reason like the darker coloring on the colorless mana symbols on Elspeth's and Tezz's cards. Makes them seem more.. Unique, almost.
I recommend this to anyone that's undecided. You get a very good value.
I thought Sarkhan the Mad had me excited before. After thinking about Koth for a while, I have to say, he's my new favorite. Definitely fits one of my favorite deck archetypes of all time, and is just plain badass to begin with.
Free hasted 4/4 every turn if you want it? Check.
Possibility to make himself a free spell? Check.
Ultimate? Fits in perfectly for when RDW has no gas - use your spare mana to ping the hell out of your opponent.

Sisters will actually, as a lot of the cards make the cut.
Spikeshot seems great to me, especially with a Basilisk Collar attached. My goblin-crazy friend is gonna go..well, crazy for this.

I imagine it's the norm, as I think everyone here's had it. (Cba reading through all the posts.)

Oh WotC, you so crazy.
That would be Yu-Gi-Oh.
May work with Kor, we'll have to see!

Very, very, very, very insane.
Looks to be a great set so far - just can't wait to see Koth.
