Granted, from what I read, the competitiveness increases from 2P --> 5-3-2-2 --> Dailies, so the underlying assumption in the above table is all players are of equal skill. Using the current $3 THS deck value, I would still believe I have a better chance of winning my first match in a 5-3-2-2 than 2 of 3 matches in 2P.
Anyway, if I am missing something with the above, please let me know since this has been all "theoretical" on my part vs. actual experience.
Other than that? Jund and American control all around.
Aristocrats was one of the most fun decks to play for sure. Though monoblue we have right now is kinda similar. Just a lot of underpowered cards that if played smartly can give a bunch of small edges that lead to wins.
I'd go for Hero's Downfall. Removal is so expensive in Theros, so opponents get kinda relaxed. Killing something for 3 mana at instant speed is huge! Even though in can be hard to get a 2 for 1 with bestow and battle tricks targeting two creatures available to all colors, you are still killing something unconditionally, be that a hero or a monster
Btw, feel free to use my web service to post questions like this: example draft P1P1
I got back into playing Magic starting this summer with Magic 2014 as Innistrad was rotating, and frankly, the current Standard with Theros isn't really that interesting. I hear a lot about the Innistrad-RTR standard days, and to me that is as distant as myth and legend (seeing as how I myself was not around during that time). I have been hearing a lot of good things about the Innistrad-Return to Ravnica time period and some people even compare its diverse options to that of Modern. What was Innistrad-RTR like? Was is as good as people say?
Not really. It was just about dying to craterhoof behemoth.
I play 2 olivias main and shes been nothing short of amazing in testing. Far better then huntmaster ever was.
Shes also just the best card to draw in games where your flooded.
Not to mention the ping effect vs all the x/1's of the format. Oh and having a flying blocker is super relevant vs inkmoth/blinkmoth/vaultskirge/resto/delver/colonade/geist token
Oh and occasionally stealing wurmcoils/man lands/titans is fun too!
A draft must have gone very wrong for me to maindeck this fellow. In most formats a 4/5 hexproof guy wouldn't be bad, but here, it's not removal that's the issue, primarily, but enormous creatures on the other side of the table. Against Nessian Asps or Sealock Monsters or random bestowed creatures this guy doesn't do much, and your six drop enters the battlefield outclassed.
So yeah, creatures are very big and removal is very bad, so a 4/5 hexproof man isn't good in this environment. He's not the worst either though. Not unplayable or anything. You'd just really prefer to leave him on the sidelines.
I'm not a real big fan of it in draft at all. In sealed, it's a passable finisher if you either have a lot of bestows or you're just short on cards that can end games. It's basically the definition of a card that's fine and borderline.
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas (whether you celebrated or not). Interesting about Show and Tell. I think I've given up drafting cube. I keep building decks that try to win fairly (by playing creatures and removal like normal people), while my opponents crush me with unfair decks. I'm simply not cut out for this format.
Nah that's not one of the options you have in the cube.
Well, if we're getting technical, Koth, two of the Lilianas (of the Dark Realms, Vess, Venser, a coupe of the Chandras (Ablaze, the Firebrand), and Sarkhan Vol were fairly mediocre in comparison to the really absurd ones.
I've been playing paper magic since I was a kid, yet being a doctoral student has prevented me from playing at local stores and PTQ's for quite some time, and I'm looking to spend anywhere between $500-$1000 to play on MTGO. I'm not trying to price out every penny as I value my time pretty highly, yet would like to make sure I'm not bleeding value every where when I start playing (I already have an account, and even have some modern staples I think - I understand playing MTGO in the first part tends makes you bleed value).
What would be my best outlet to get convenience, along with decent value? Is the amount of money I'm spending enough to play the two formats I enjoy playing - Modern and Standard?
Thanks for helping me out,
Koleigh
Well, in terms of modern you're probably looking at 400ish for melira or splinter twin. Basically any standard deck is around 200ish, though you can add a bunch more if you want revelations in it.
edit - i would find a bot chain that you trust and buy bot credits.
I ended up going 4-0 and winning the paper pauper tournament that I guess this store has every Monday. I turned a five dollar entry fee into two thoughtseizes and two soldiers of the pantheon. Not too bad for a Monday night. I never play at this store, really, so I think some of them were kind of surprised that I crushed them so thoroughly

I would take fabled hero
I think he figured that part out.
Not really. It was just about dying to craterhoof behemoth.
I've had olivia in my sideboard for two years.
I think lightning bolt is the best spell in the format. Nothing else can really touch it in terms of its power level.

I lost to tibalt before

Very nice!
