ColbyCube posted a message on This or That discussion.Sasky, agree with the rest of your post, but here's 4 things I differ with you on:Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion
1) It's not always crystal clear whether or not I should be leashing Gore-House.
2) A 1/2 is about even on defense with a 2/1. I think what makes him a better defender is the not-so-corner-case that he can also block in the late game. Even when you're playing him on turn 1-2, he can block in the late game. Turn 1-2 Gore-House is never going to be able to block for me in the late game.
With a 1/2, you can also block 1/1 tokens multiple times, and still trade with a 2/1 (46 creatures, quick filter). Actually, there are only 44 2/2s in my cube, so for me anyway, the Swiftspear can probably favorably block way more creatures when you combine the 1/1s in with it.
3) Waif is high risk, high reward. Sometimes your opponent just stumbles and half their life total is gone before either of you know it.
Quote from noshadowkick »Venser, the Sojourner vs Momentary Blink? I have cubed Venser for a couple years now but he has spent more time riding the bench than I would like. I really like the blinkity blink U/W deck and am starting to wonder if Momentary Blink might actually be a better cube card for that archtype.
I actually literally just made this swap in my 720. I think Blink may just be a better card, haven't tested it out in forever. -

I'm considering re-adding the white first strike guy that makes tokens when he connects (also a CC card) and Cloistered Youth. Has anyone had success with any white 2 drops I haven't mentioned?
I'd include exactly those two (Precinct Captain and Cloistered Youth), yes. Can't think on anything else better for the slots.

1 - Temporal Isolation vs Arrest vs Smokestack vs Prison Term ? What is the order of preference?(replace to Banishing Light)
Smokestack > Banishing Light > Temporal Isolation > Prison Term > Arrest.
2 - Searing Blood vs Stoke the Flames vs Forked Bolt vs Volcanic Hammer ? What is the order of preference?(replace to Lightning Strike)
(replacing Lightning Strike for Volcanic Hammer? Really? )
Lightning Strike > Forked Bolt > Stoke the Flames > Searing Blood > a dozen other burn spells > Volcanic Hammer
3 - Akroma's Vengeance vs Martial Coup vs Hallowed Burial vs Rout ? What is the order of preference? (replace to Day of Judgment)
Day of Judgment > Martial Coup > a couple other mass removal > Rout > Hallowed Burial > Akroma's Vengeance
Basically, I'd keep Strike and DoJ, and replace Light for Smokestack. If you really want to change the other two, Forked Bolt and Martial Coup are the picks here. -

Big Jim posted a message on [[SCD]] Master of the FeastThis card is definitely going in for me, at least for a bit. I want black to lean aggro, and I like how it's spurred this discussion here of how to mitigate the drawback. That's the kind of thinking man's aggro card I want.Posted in: Cube Card and Archetype Discussion - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

EDIT: More thoughts:
In a blue tempo deck you are on the aggressive plan and will be playing cheap and/or evasive beaters and lots of ways to remove blockers. For three mana this guy puts 6 power on the board and threatens to close the game extremely fast. The downside is this is a super bad card to hardcast if you can't set up Ninjutsu. It's also not evasive on it's own so you will definitely have a harder time connecting after the first Ninjutsu assisted hit. I think it will likely play out like a mono blue Geist of Saint Traft. Also, this creature is pretty much only good in blue aggressive decks.
Tempo decks do well in my playgroup and I think my drafters will love this card. I've found these decks can run into the same issue that mono red aggro/burn does in that a lot of your key cards are flexible and get drafted by other players. I already have a couple "tempo only" cards in my blue section to bolster the archetype, like Warsail Marauder, and I can definitely find room for one more.

Also, I just really like cool splashy gold card effects Cutting a Ajani, Unyielding for this slightly better Disenchant may streamline my guild section, but then I’d lose a fun and unique midrange curve topper.
I think those that want to maximiZe the overall playability of cube cards have a legit point though. To each their own and more power too you.
Hope I didn’t derail the conversation. Card’s sweet.
