Local Target had 1 Mind Seize and 2 Esper decks. I bought the Mind Seize for retail.

Part of the design of Tec Edge led to "not fun" scenarios where you had to choose between sitting on 3 land or developing your board by playing your forth land and thus turning on all the tec edges your opponent had in play.

Encroaching Wastes is a land that comes into play untapped, taps for colorless mana, and has an extra effect that lends itself more to control decks than aggressive decks. This card is not the end of the world one way or another and will be played.

And by cutting the up front casting cost of the skeleton by half it might actually make it function better than the original in many of the same or similar combo loops. Reassembling Skelton, since it was ideal to bring it back at eot, was a combo card that also appeared to be a control card. This one might be a slightly better combo enabler.

I think it would be great if there was a subforum here on mtgs similar to the loleventvods they have on reddit.

Make a thread for each pro tour, grand prix, and scg event
Someone, while watching the event, makes note of the timestamps for the start of matches.
In the event thread directly link to the twitchtv timestamp for start of each match, also include links to pre- and post- match coverage.

After watching league of legends for a while where I get to go "ok straight to picks/bans, watch game, jump straight to next game" I am finding it tedious to sit through the between-the-match coverage for these mtg events.

Just tossing the suggestion out there, this is one point where the LoL community has been stepping up really well imo.

Hey, I am a longtime mtg player. I was sucked into League of Legends about 6 months ago and am now trying to get back into the loop for competitive magic.

For league of legends there are places you can go to watch the most popular tournament series after they happen. You do not have to watch the twitch stream live, here are some examples:
    http://www.reddit.com/r/LoLeventVoDs
    http://lolplay.tv/

For major events you have posts/threads made to link to the pre-game coverage, games, and post game interviews:
    http://www.reddit.com/r/LoLeventVoDs/comments/1dymv7/s3_lcs_na_summer_season_promotion_tournament/

Can someone please tell me where I can find something similar for current competitive magic the gathering?

    Thanks!

    Oh, reveillark is mythic?
And Bob and Clique are not? (Remember, Goyf is mythic. If you consider these cards to not be mythic comparable to Goyf, I'm not sure what your metric is)

This list gets funnier the more I read it.

Not saying that I agree with the fake list, but IMO staple cards that go in multiple top tier decks (like bob and clique) should be released as rares while powerful effects that are primarily played in single decks (like lark) are ideal picks for mythics. But of course by that logic goyf should be released as a rare, not as a mythic.

Something to consider with modern masters set versus chronicles

Everyone knows Legends was massively underprinted.
Many cards in the Legends set were highly overvalued because of their scarcity. Similar to P3K, but in P3K the value spike was/is focused in the few cards that actually have a purpose, in Legends everything was overvalued due to the short print run and booming popularity of the game (blame the early magic scene and maybe people wanting to complete sets of this large and popular set)

Chronicles was actually a very bad set (card quality wise). You have a few cards that needed to be reprinted (erhnam djinn, feldon's cane, ashnod's crype, city of brass, urza lands, tormod's crypt, sol kah'nar, recall), a couple bad cards that were super popular (elder dragon legends) and then a bunch of really bad cards that had been $10-$20+ just because they were rares from the legends set but chronicles dropped their price to the $1-$5 range.

What I want to say is regardless of WotC "not printing enough" or "printing the exact right amount" or "printing too much" we are in a different situation that we were in pre-legends. As long as the set is more than half made up of cards that are actually played (and thus actually need to be reprinted) then any comparison to chronicles is imo mostly inapplicable.

Of course "printing the exact right amount" is the hardest to achieve and also what they are aiming for, but IMO "not printing enough" would be much worse than "printing too much"

That works, the problem is finding an untap effect powerful enough to be included on its own merits.

maybe one of the modes on the dimir charm will be to tap or untap target creature...

Also here is a way to please both segments: Make normal commander decks and then foil 4 random cards in them(i dont mean rerelease the old commander decks, they should have done this method in the first place though). This way collectors can shoot for awesomesauce like foil eternal witness foil commander only cards and foil commander only commanders. They could also have included more cards in this product as well, but instead it is just going to be all the worst aspects of the FtV products times ten. It will have some of the good aspects such as powerful cards in rare foil versions but every bad aspect is much larger now.

Good suggestion, I like the idea of randomly foiling a few of the cards in the next commander deck release so you get an amazing preconstructed product and still a bit of anticipation/surprise regarding what cards might be holo.

The thing I hate most about the "more commander decks are coming next year" is that this explanation, for many casuals, seems like an eternity away.

Many of the people who post on forums have been doing so for several years. for us, waiting 1 year is annoying but not a deal breaker. We are used to anticipating future product. Many of the casual players I interact with tend to have interest spikes when a set looks interesting and then will go afk for a year or so. Innistrad appealed so some new players I know, RTR is currently bringing some old-school casual players back into the game. For these guys, a new affordable commander product next year is meaningless.

Then imagine the idealistic teenager just getting into the game. for them waiting "more than a year" for a new product is a couple of eternities. If you got into magic as a 13-15 year old teenager, try to remember what you were into around then, remember what the game seemed like to you, then imagine if you were told "hey, in about a year and a half we will have another release of cool affordable commander decks!"

All this is to say last year's command decks were an awesome release; waiting 2 years before releasing a second series of command decks is not a very good way to support a format that focuses on casual players.

I like Nivmagus elemental in Legacy BUG Control, you can turn your extra discard spells into two +1+1 counters and once you have Life from the Loam working with Raven's Crime you are putting two +1+1 counters for every black mana spent.

edit: nevermind, since you are exiling the card I guess it will not combo with Retrace...

The walmarts around here keep magic in stock pretty well, they even had the fire and lightning premium deck on sale for a while.

The main concern I have for this product being sold in big-box stores is the price. In many chain stores the ccg isle gets shoplifted from frequently and this product might require a security wrapper or behind-the-counter placement since it is about 3 times the price as most other "big items" sold on that isle. And when one single new product requires a change of policy many might consider it "not a good idea". Also most department stores consider ccgs to be impulse-buys (thus their normal location near the registers) and $75 is definitely not par for the course in that regard.

I can't imagine video gamers buying up multiple collectors editions if possible to resell on ebay right away for 2-3x the purchase price. How is it unprofessional for a retailer to sell a product that they know is far more valuable than the MSRP?

One of the closest recent comparisons might be Xenoblade Chronicles which is (arguably) an excellent game that was given a limited distribution release. You can buy it new from gamestop ($50 at launch, $50 currently, $45 used) and the cheapest price on amazon is $55.00 used. compare that to almost any other game 4 months after it is released. Compare that to another game that came out at the same time, Prototype2, has gone from $60 release to current $20 used.

I wonder if they'll use the color indicator for now on instead of "Pact of Negation is blue."

edit: ... actually, now that I see its oracle card entry, it seems they certainly will.

edit2: however, Ghostfire still has the text... slightly odd (the need of a colorless indicator).

afaik card frame technically does not matter; if a card does not have colored mana in its cost then it is technically considered colorless until rulestext on the card states otherwise.

We have Serra Angel as a 5cc 4/4 flying angel in uncommon.

We have Sublime Archangel as a 4cc 4 power flying angel with exalted in mythic.

IMO they would not put Battlegrace Angel in the same set as Sublime Archangel

Yup this guy compares favorably to squee.

Being able to trigger his "return from grave to hand" ability in main phase can sometimes be better than getting to return him during upkeep (will let you sometimes use his ability twice in one turn).

If you are a black-based deck that uses discard outlets and does not want to miss land drops then this guy might be good and in that same deck in the lategame after multiple board wipes this guy, unlike squee, can be used to finish a game with a reasonable number of swings.

Maybe he should be also compared to eternal dragon. The main mode of that card was a recurring planscycler, it was only in the extreme lategame when he was played as a beater and used to win the game.

Imagine this in a mostly black deck with looters.

I got one of these in my first starter deck ever (revised).

While the theory of "4 mana, comes into play tapped, have to wait until next turn" does not sound too broken (omg slower than wrath!!!), the key is that when you can stick a disk when you are not totally behind it allows you to wipe the entire board as a fast effect for only 1 mana. If you are getting smashed it will not save you but it can turn close games into blowouts.

I honestly don't know how I feel about it maybe getting reprinted but I think some people might be forgetting that while it is a bit slower to bring online once you untap with a disk you are usually in the driver's seat.
