I have been getting a few match ups where I have dead cards in hand or extra land and I use them to pitch out the last 3 damage. I thought I'd try it. I couldn't find Sulferic Vortex in time. I just started putting the deck together last night. Since I hand dump, it's usually 3 damage and discard a land. Or if I have Price of Progress game 1 against a Mono Black or Mirror, I dump Price to the Sonic Seizure.

It's dumb tech, anyhow. I'm 1-2 losing to Zombie Bombardment with some janky hands.

I think Vexing Devil would have been a better choice. I should have snagged some.

I pretty much just sold off some cards in my account and bought a Boltslinger deck, to build my 60 for the Magic Online Championship Series Legacy Event tonight. Here's the pile:

I'm 1-1 so far. First match, I rolled over a Reanimator variant. Second match I got rolled over by Omnipresence.

I think the point they're getting at is not having to pay black mana for the card. Since Iona turns off red, using the off color spells with replaceable costs allow them to do that without switching their mana base.

Diabolic Edict means you'd have to put some swamps in there... and use mana that you'd rather be using on burn.

I got 15 Qualifier Points on Magic Online for this month's Legacy event. I'm thinking of running burn, since I don't play regularly and would rather not invest a ton of cash. I know burn kind of plays to itself too, so I don't have to worry as much about the meta as I would by playing Death and Taxes or Elves.

Is burn pretty much the cheapest competitive deck to build? Is it all that competitive? I know it's established, but would I be better off learning/building something else in the next week?

8th pick Vhitu-Gazi Guildmage and a wheeled Call of the Conclave pretty much means everybody at that table wanted you to win. They chose you as their champion.

    That's a mean deck.

I thought it was the coolest thing when I got to activate the Sphinx in limited for the first time. In Izzet, I usually play aggro and have left him in the sideboard quite a bit. Usually when I've got a Teleportal or two and a stack of little dudes. Izzet has some great little dudes at it's disposal.

Honestly I've never seen this. Maybe once a season do I play against such an atrocious deck. I've seen some questionable 23rd cards or odd splashes, which indicate a failed draft plan, but nothing as extreme as you're saying you've seen "a lot of people" doing.
It's happened a few times this week, but I draft a lot and I may also be remembering Sealed pools as well.

I just finished a Swiss draft and did not have any terribly outlandish opponents. It's not a given occurrence, just something I seem to notice.

Even if you won half your events you'd have to play 26 events to win 13 points in a week. That's alot!

I'm not sure how many events I've played. I may be winning more than half of my events. I know two of the points came from going 3-1 in Scheduled Events. I haven't won more than 1 point per event yet, tho. Also, since I posted that, I've won another event. So I'm at 14 Qualifier points.

You say elves, urafever? I was thinking burn.

I notice the drafting difference in Swiss and 8-4. In 8-4, you're going to see Deathrite Shaman, Shocklands and Guild Mythics go until turns 3-5. You rarely see that in Swiss. I see a lot of people in Swiss running 4 color decks, double color splash cards. You can kind of tell that person flubbed up their draft and the table a bit. No big deal tho. You get better by playing. Every once in a while those atrocious piles work perfectly and then boom boom bombs a dropping from 4 odd colors. Doesn't seem to happen that often tho.

I wasn't planning on playing in the MOCS this go around. The prize is awesome, but at the time I was kind of over Magic Online for taking away the 4-Pack Sealed events. I loved those. Then last weekend, I decided to play some drafts. I won a few of them and decided to just roll with it. In the last week I've picked up 13 Qualifier points, a couple from these Phantom Sealed events. Now it's likely I'll hit 15 points and I have to worry about getting a Legacy deck together... and learning the format. Ugh. Why can't it be limited?!!

That's a nutty deck. I'm not convinced I'd play Blue... I don't think I'd play Underworld Connections. I know the card is great, but in Rakdos, I feel like I don't want it unless I'm losing. I'd switch out the Rage Mutt for the other Rix Madi. I feel like that 6/4 is a lot more manpower. I kind of think I'd trade Tavern Swindler and Daggerdrome for Imp for Drainpipe Vermin and Bellows Lizard. Playing a creature on Turn 1 is dope when you've decided to play Dynacharge... and the Vermin makes your Pack Rat a little bigger off the bat. Not great, but you can also use him to chump block or chuck to make a Rat Pack token later in the game. I always feel like those 1/1's go a lot further with Dynacharge.

Run less land? Please go into further detail. I try not to run Gates in two color. If I picked up a ton of Ogre Jailbreakers in the first two packs, I will high pick Gates in the third pack. I want to be able to attack with my beasts. Otherwise, I don't stress them at all. I hate drawing a Gate when a basic is needed to make a swingy play.

I really only like playing Keyrunes when I have a bomb that I'd like to get out a turn earlier. Otherwise, I'd rather have a creature in that spot.

I like Cackdos Rakler in this the deck with Teleportal. Being able to have an extra guy on the board, could lead to a turn 5 blow out. The extra couple damage snuck through could give Teleportal lethal a turn earlier, most times. I love the card. I do like playing Electromancer in the deck also. He's not bad on Turn 4 to get another few in with Teleportal.

And agree with Perilous Shadow. I really try not to play Double Mana cards in 3 color, unless it's my main color. I'd definitely have a Bloodfray Giant in this list.

Collective Blessing is the worst. Gotta race that summmofagun.

I think they knew that their 8 tix phantom cues were TRASH. They're probably rethinking the entire format. Play 'em at 4 tix while you can. I just finished my third 4 Tix Phantom RTR Sealed. Got much better the last two tournaments.

Pack Rat is a house. Barely beat it in the finals just now. Out raced it with Teleport and then 3rd game my opponent got color screwed.

As a limited player, I love it when cards are worth more and packs are worth less.
