I'll be honest, I too was hoping for a bear.
Little confused as to why it's also an artifact but, OH HEY IT'S UNCOMMON!
So that's pretty cool.
It'll still sell for like $5 minimum though.
Awesome to see legends (and new legends at that) in core.
Agreed, Legends are my favorite thing about magic, each one of theme is a regular old... thing, but has done a unique and amazing thing to merit it's distinction.
Each of them has a little story to tell, be it official or 'head canon'. And while planeswalkers are the new 'big daddy' central focus, the legends are the true heroes.
Don't need no fancy sparks or 'outer space mageeeks' to kick some ass.
It's funny because i actually had the opposite happen to me: i started playing in ravnica, then left and came back in alara, so I had to become familiar with blocks not being multicolored.
Heh, I remember I started in Invasion which was a blast. Luckily multicolor isn't that hard of a concept to grasp (at least for me) so I was able dive in right away. Split cards though... THAT'S what blew my young mind.
I think with RtR being a gold set, they're trying to do a little to get new players familiar with gold.
It's also probably too late for you vote the card shenanigans since this will have to already be at print right now.
Makes sense. Shame about the vote thing, I really enjoyed doing that stuff back in the day.
Just like you make the card's... Great times. Made you feel more invested in the set, especially when things you voted for get picked.
Definitely a cool card and is bound to see some sort of play in control.
I love seeing legendary creatures back in core sets. Now we just have to wait and see if multicolored cards are coming back or if it is just Bolas.
I do like the packaging as well.
Willing to bet that we may see a couple more than just Bolas, but it's unlikely that any of them will be at the common rarity, and certainly not too many of them.
Over all, I feel like this is their most ambitious core set to date from the little we've seen.
Hope they do a 'you vote the card' thing for it too.
He isn't. Liliana only went to Grixis once and didn't realize there were demons there.
Man... EVERY TIME a new demon shows up... Not cool guys.
Hey, can't blame the girl for having goals. Garruk wants a new gigantic trophy head to mount on his wall, and Lili just likes planeshopping and revenge like some sort of serial slasher movie character.
Question: are we sure that that Lili is a booster pack? From my untrained eye, that packaging looks more like the Booster Battle Pack cover to me.
In any case, it's still 'new' artwork of Lili, so that might prove interesting. Feeling like they'll reprint the last coreset walkers (their 'current' versions) and give us a new white and black one.
Also if the titans are reprinted, I'll be pretty shocked.
Ya, 10th had a lot of (really really basic and bland) legendaries. This time, if each color gets a new one (very likely) that'll be pretty nest. They know what a lot of their players want (new generals) and they're willing to take pity by squeezing in 5 or so into a core set to help sell it.
THAT'S some good market research right there.
For everyone who is puzzled about the appearance of a plane-specific name in a core set, all that it means is that core sets are no longer exclusive to Dominaria.
Bogardan, Shiv, Yavimaya, etc. are all locations on the plane of Dominaria and have all been featured on core edition cards.
We've also gotten core set cards that take place and feature characters/ species not found on Dominaria. The core is more of a generic fantasy setting for the most part I think with a few splashes of 'magic history' here and there.
I do often wonder what's going on in Dominaria these days though... probably a Sliver hive world or something by now.
As for Exalted, still not too keen on it being in black, but whatever it's not my call.
I've noticed a trend with the most recent sets. Scars was Mirrodin 2.0. Innistrad was Kamigawa 2.0 (more on this later). Right after, we're getting Ravnica 2.0. So, I speculate we'll have some form of TSP afterwards. (Possibly llorwen though, since the TSP was the end of a story)
Right now, the burden is on me to prove how ISD is like Kami. Both were telling a story. Both had factions at war. Both had a happy ending. Both were extremely flavorful, and more of a flavor built set than anything (with the key difference being kamigawa failed to be popular). I feel that ISD was kamigawa done RIGHT, and with that we have a 1-2-3 pattern of blocks.
Has anyone else noticed this?
And don't forget that the third set was each a gigantic ball drop. And had the same lead designer in charge.
Sakashima's Student is definitely a great card, but even with all the excitement in this thread, I don't think most people here really appreciate how truly amazing this card is. This is the card I have been waiting for for a long time; it enables the greatest combo in Magic history. What combo is that, you ask?
Yes, that's right ladies and gentlemen, with Sakashima's Student, it is now possilbe to play a Zombie Pirate Ninja creature! With this card, Magic has officially reached the pinnacle of awesome.
I think it is actually your job. Both players should keep track of both life totals.
It's a good idea to keep track yes, but it's not my exclusive job description to keep track of it for you because you can't be bothered to do it yourself.
Well doesn't this stop people from rule sharking you? I had this incident happen a lot in my FNMs.
Player One: Puts down Cavern of Souls forgets to name creature type (Plays all humans). Tap two plains and Cavern to bring out Mirran Crusader.
Player Two: COUNTER IT! with disspate
Player One: WTF it says uncounterable?!
Player Two: Didnt name a creature type!!!
Is it the job of the other player too to ask what the person using Cavern for?
No.
if someone [REDACTED] up like that, I keep my mouth shut and do as I please (unless it's a casual game).
If you don't have your deck on lockdown and are just assuming people can read your mind in a competitive environment, you deserve to get some flack.
Another fun thing: It's not my job to keep track of your life total for you. And when I do, don't constantly question it; just buy a 25 cent die you cheapskate.
I say this mostly because I'm tired of being the 'nice guy' and giving people a second chance for small things than end up directly costing me the game. No one ever does this crap for me, so screw it.
Seems like anything that plays well in eternals and Modern gets like that as a $20 staple creature. But yea, having another go at her or having something new to drive down her price is always something good. "Staples" that are like $80/set is pretty dumb.
I remember back when Mirrodin was around that Ravager was like $22 a pop and people I played with and against couldn't believe that a T2 card could be so expensive.
Jump ahead about 10 years and we've got things running around in the $40+ range.
So i I ever jump back into T2 it'll have to be with some low budget deck... that'll still probably be around $300.

O-Onii-chan! M-m-my hype! It's moving on its own!

Nah, not until Teenage is a creature type.
