Pound for pound, I would deem it a close call between metal and indie rock. Oh, let's not kid ourselves; some of the genres others have mentioned do indeed suck, but at least they fall under the category of suckage without pretension.

    how is metal bad?

  • posted a message on have any of your teachers or profs ever sworn in class?
    Quote from Fade_To_Black
I didn't. You said that a teacher should never swear, which is wrong.

Any student that thinks they can do anything that their teacher did is, quite frankly, not suited for a professional job at all.

This same teacher that occasionally swears is the same one who also occasionally teaches professional courtesy and lessons that will help in the real world.(Such as making reports presentable and treating your boss(es) with respect)

Just occasionally swearing does not negatively affect students with common sense.

I agree, swearing in class is not that bad.
I can see not swearing in like elementary school because the children will still be impressionable but in a setting like a college class, people are adults so they should be mature enough to not do it all the time, especially in a professional situation.
I agree about what you say about profs who swear..that prof also stressed professionalism and being mature in the workplace.
it is freedom of speech to be able to swear if you feel the need.
ironically, that class where the prof swore was Rights and freedoms in the Justice System.
it just relates to common sense to not do it in a professional situation

    lands count as colored permanents
    um
vigilance means the creature has haste?

oh yeah.. I used to think that lands counted as coloured permanents too.
I didn't learn til I was playing in a tournament and my opponent cast something that made me discard all black cards in my hand, so i discarded my swamps too until he told me that lands are colourless

One time in highschool, this math teacher said to a student in my grade: "(students name), I need your dick". She meant to say desk.

Now and then, I don't think I've heard the f word but ***** and ☺☺☺☺ and damn quite frequently. And alot more frequently in college. It really isn't a big deal, people should lighten up when it comes to swearing. But what bothers me is when professors randomly soap-box about politics or something. I suppose the only worse thing would be religion but I've never encountered that.

my profs randomly talk about politics a lot but that's probably because I'm in criminology, which I guess is law related so its natural that politics and law go together

Well, I don't think there's much censorship in college. My profs don't abuse curse words, but nothing bad happens when someone says one. For the sake of argument even racial slurs are allowed if used correctly and for the right reasons.

High School is another story. I did have one Military History teacher who would occasionally drop a curse word and a racial slur, but nobody minded because he was funny and cool. Teachers often try to set moral examples, but they don't pretend they're not human.

I've heard of racial slurs being used in college, never personally but I have heard of a history prof at a Canadian university denying the holocaust, I'm not saying that thats right but I have heard of that prof

I was shocked because I hadn't really heard a teacher or prof say that word out loud before

has anyone else heard a teacher, prof or any other professional swear out loud before?

I'd say, it depends on what you classify metal as for me, I listen to a lot of metal.
I wouldn't say most metal is mainstream but when I think of indie rock, I think of really creative music
