Player A has metalcraft, Player B does not.

Player A casts Dispatch targeting Llanowar Elves, while Player B casts Twincast targeting Dispatch and has his copy targeting Arbor Elf.

What happens to the Arbor Elf?

The most common solution was to place them in clear sleeves (different from the sleeves you are using) and set them off to the side, possibly underneath your Tokens/SB. This prevents your opponent form seeing them and keeps them in sight of both players. When you play a Checklist Card, just place the DFC on top of it.

If you pile them with your SB, it is crucial that you have some means of visual separation, or you could get a Game loss for having an Illegal Decklist, since the Checklist cards and the actual DFC would each count as a copy.

Thank you so much for your help, this was exactly the type of information I was looking for!

    1) No, because they aren't part of your SB.

    2) Refer to 1). It's outside of the game until you play the Checklist card, so you better remember what it does.

    3) You pick it up and look at it.

    Thanks for replying, you two.

I guess my next question would be where you physically place your Transform card, if it's not in the sideboard? Someplace in the open? Wouldn't your opponent know which Transform cards you're running right off the bat then?

I'm not too sure where to put these questions, and I couldn't find an exact answer from http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/157b

    So here goes:

-If I am using clear sleeves and are using the checklist cards, where do I place the real cards? In my sideboard?

-If I just drew a Transform card as a checklist card, and would like to see the real thing, do I simply look at my sideboard, assuming that that is where I placed the real card? Doesn't this become a huge tell, unless I force myself to periodically look at my sideboard (and risk being accused of stalling)?

-If I want to see the flip side of a card that's already in play, what are the specific rules and procedures for doing so?

Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you guys soon!

While searching a hidden zone, you may rearrange it as you like.

This is most commonly seen as a person grabs two (or more) things they may want to find for the search. So they can look at them while they decide which to take.

This doesn't apply to the library, however.

400.5 The order of objects in a library, in a graveyard, or on the stack can’t be changed except when effects or rules allow it. The same is true for objects arranged in face-down piles in other zones. Other objects in other zones can be arranged however their owners wish, although who controls those objects, whether they’re tapped or flipped, and what other objects are attached to them must remain clear to all players.

Coincidentally, I found this ruling in another thread where you answered with the same response. (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=347749&page=2)

    1) It depends on whose turn it is. All triggered abilities go on the stack in APNAP order (Active Player - Non-Active Player). So the triggers of the NAP will resolve first and he will get Ulamog under his Mimic Vat. The Mimic Vat of the other player can't get it, because it is no longer in the graveyard.

Note that no matter what, the graveyard of the player that owned Ulamog is going to get shuffled into his library.

Doesn't the shuffle effect from Ulamog also go on the stack though? Say the active player is the owner of Ulamog and Ulamog dies, wouldn't the active player's triggers for Mimic Vat and Ulamog go on the stack, followed by non-active player's Mimic Vat trigger?

EDIT: Nevermind, just realized you said the graveyard of the Ulamog owner gets shuffled. Just wanted to clarify that Ulamog would go get placed on the Mimic Vat of the non-active player, assuming the owner of Ulamog is the active player.

That's ok, if this replaces BSA then it'll be overshadowed by the Titans also. Great idea Wotc. Slant

Not really, cause now you can turn your Titans into BSAs!

Let's just say having Knight of the Reliquary out after dropping Ajani's Avatar and equipping Loxodon Warhammer playing against a mono-G deck and Forecasting Paladin of Prahv tends to make a lot of lifegain o.o... More than I had originally intended. (KotR enables multiple Sejiri Steppe drops as long as you have multiples in the deck and/or Selesnya Sanctuary)

I hope you didn't Forecast the Paladin onto the creature equipped with the Warhammer, because that wouldn't mean as much lifegain as you think.

    *How was Nantuko Shade?

*Did you ever wish you went with a 2/2 split between DB and GftT, or was 4 Doom Blades a good thing?

    *Is Liliana worth a slot?

*How often was Ratchet Bomb useful?

*Is 3 Vats a good idea, since most people are settling on 2 with 1 SB for control.

Just a few questions for someone who seems well-versed on the archtype.

Nantuko Shade is more of a personal choice in this deck, as it surprises a lot of control matchups. It's great early game for drawing out burn spells, trading with weenies, "evading" counterspells. It's also great late game, being able to become massive to trade with titans or dish out lots of damage.

Doomblades was almost always valid, as I didn't encounter too many other black decks that day..the only time I sided them out was against the vampires deck. There were a lot of people playing around with Tezzeret decks too, which is why I preferred Doomblade over GftT in the main.

Liliana is always a good card to play. Against aggro, it allows me to fetch for a BSZ, titan, wurmcoil, and soak up damage for a turn. Against control, it lets me fetch for Mindsludge.

Ratchet bomb is pretty much my only answer to a resolved artifact, which is why I run 3 main. Against heavy aggro, I swap out a bomb and others to place in 3 BSZ. Ratchet bomb also gets in for some tricks if need be - I EoT make a wurmcoil from vat and then make another on my turn. Smash for 12, and pop the wurmcoil tokens to make 4 3/3 lifelink/deathtouch tokens.

3 Vats are excessive on rare occasions. Consistently having 2 in play allows me to trade freely with Nighthawks and then grabbing opposing titans or white creatures (to block Swords). Having 2 in hand also allows me to throw one out without having to worry about it being countered.

    Quote from ParticleMan
I find your decklist quite suboptimal, however I do find one thing interesting. That would be the lack of Persecutor and the 4 MD Doom Blade. I think that helped you pull out the round 1 win against Tezzeret. Tezzeret is a problem when we can't pull out all of the GftT due to needing it as an out.

I'm really surprised this was a GPT. It looks like you played against a lot of jank. Even my local FNM is just one giant boring pile of birds with swords. You didn't face it once? Amusingly, your losses were to the jank as well, while you scraped out wins against higher tier decks.

Suboptimal? Which cards do you refer to, the Nighthawks, Ratchets, Sorin (haha I know)? The lack of Percy is simply because I don't want to base my deck around having extra removal to get rid of him... it adds an extra layer of contraints that I'd just rather not have. Something to note is that my FNM is always full of homebrew and, come to think of it, not a lot of players playing cawblade. I think there were 2 of those decks at GPT running around, luckily I didn't have to play them.

    Quote from mdshamess
And I dont like because the running of only 23 lands and using creatures with 6cc. I guess it a lot danger.

I know that it's a deck with low land count, which is why I limit the number of 6 drops to three. I rely on the four Sign in Bloods to get me out of any potential land screw, but I don't find myself in that predicament too often.

I made top 8 at a GPT a while back, and am just getting around to posting my decklist lol.

    Round 1:
Played against Tezzeret deck, which was pretty rough to say the least. Lost game 1 due to a 5/5 Inkmoth. This game was actually very long-winded and lasted 30 minutes long, due to him not drawing Tezz early and me not getting any gas even with 2 consecutive Sign in Bloods. Game 2 I came back with two early Nightshades (he never saw them game 1) and a Doomblade to get rid of any blockers. Game 3 began with 2 minutes left in the round, with me keeping a hand of Disfigure, Doomblade, and Nightshade. When five turns came around, my board was a Mimic vat, while my opponent had lots of ramp artifacts but no lands (he tried to kill me with turn 1 and 2 inkmoths, which ate my kill spells). He was on 16, which looked like it was going to be draw. I smashed with the shade, which unfortunately ate a Go for the throat - onto the vat it goes. Turn 3 I rip a Grave titan which he counters with Stoic Rebuttal....then realizes he doesn't have the metalcraft active to use his mox opal mana. Turn 5 swing for lethal.

Interesting note: Mindslaver does nothing to this deck. When my opponent attempted to slaver me, all I had was 3 Doomblades, Duress, and him topdecking a Grave Titan.

    1-0

    Round 2:
Played against a Grand Architect deck. Few fun things to note:
-Doomblading Treasure Mage onto my Mimic vat to fetch for my own Wurmcoil
-Doomblading opposing Wurmcoil to place onto my Mimic Vat
-I laugh in the face of being Mindslavered

Memory is kinda hazy on this match, except that it wasn't a difficult matchup.

    2-0

    Round 3:
Played against a Vampire deck (bloodghast, highborns, seers). Game 1, I played enough removal to get rid of all of his creatures...and then dropped Sorin for the win. Very unexpected and hilarious. Games 2 and 3 were extremely close, with me losing to a topdecked bolt game 2. Game 3, lost due to having low life total and opponent having a highborn out... just didn't draw that wurmcoil.

    2-1

    Round 4:
Played against an aggressive green-white deck. Opponent started off game 1 with a llanowar elf then leatherback baloth. Ouch... Luckily I have a Nighthawk to fend that off! Then Obstinate Baloth hits the field, eating a Doomblade. I stabalize with the help of other random removal, Gatekeepers for chumping, and finish off the game with Grave Titans and Vats. Game 2 consisted of me being landscrewed, but having enough removal and threats to carry the game (3 lands, 2 Nighthawks, 1 Doomblade, something random). I drop the nighthawks asap and am stuck on 3 lands for the rest of the game. My opponent blows up my land with Acidic Slime and believes he has stabilized by playing Stirring Wildwoods - Doomblade says no.

    3-1

    Round 5:
Paired up with a friend playing Kuldotha red. I'm pretty sure this is an easy round, having played him at the last FNM...but I'm a nice guy and we draw into top 8. We played a few matches for fun but they weren't even close games, as expected. Between Nighthawks, Gatekeepers, and Shades, they provide enough stall for the Vats, Titans, and Wurmcoils to come out. Sideboard consisting of bringing in BSZ and swapping out Shades.

    3-1-1

    Top 8
    Round 1:
Paired up against RUG. Game 1 consisted of me dropping his JtMS with Duress and getting enough threats countered to resolve a Grave Titan. Game 2 was actually a pretty fun game of mind tricks. I resolve an early Inquisition to see his Inferno Titan, JtMS, 4 lands and a counter. Next turn I attempt to Duress his JtMS which gets countered (nice topdeck on his part). Turn 3 I topdeck the FNM Duress to get rid of his JtMS and seeing his Acidic Slime and second Inferno Titan. At this point I know that I have to kill him before he gets to 6 lands. I am holding a Mimic Vat, Gatekeeper, and Doomblade. I feign having nothing in my hand, drop a Gatekeeper to force my opponent to play his Slime (he didn't topdeck any lands and had taken a few hits from the keeper). I end of turn Doomblade the Slime, placing it onto the Vat, and my opponnent scoops.

    Round 2:
Paired up against a very capable Kuldotha red pilot. Game 1 I take huge hits early, but Nighthawk helps stabilize while opponent draws lands. Grave Titan comes out and carries the game home. My opponent draws an insane hand game two - Turn 1 Kuldotha Rebirthing a mox and playing a Memnite. I draw/go. Turn 2 opponent drops kicked Bushwacker and smacks for 10. I play a land and don't do anything (doubt playing a Sign in Blood is the correct decision). Take another 5 on turn 3, and topdeck a BSZ for the wrath. Opponent then goes on to consistently draw lands, giving me the chance to stabilize long enough to play a titan and win. I got very lucky that round.

    Round 3:
Playing against elves. Lost game 1 due to early aggression from vengevines - much too much fast beaters for my liking. Game 2 my opponent keeps a sketchy hand, so I keep my hand with light threads but a Disfigure and Doomblade. I lead with land, opponent goes land and llanowar elf - which gets Disfigured. I drop a land and say go - opponent drops arbor elf which is doombladed. At this point, my opponent gives a big sigh of disappointment. I beat him down with a dread statuary for a lethal (heh) while he draws non-land cards. Game 3, I make the mistake of letting a Fauna Shaman stay alive (elves is a matchup I rarely have a chance to play against). It goes on to fetch things and discard Vengevines, and I get beaten to a pulp.

I feel the deck fits in the middle of aggro and conrol. It's got elements to deal with both, between the disruption spells (Duress, Inquisition, Mindsludges) and the board sweepers (Ratchet Bomb, BSZ). The deck loves to resolve a Mimic Vat, and can then play big dudes without fear for repercussion. I suppose I am lucky we didn't have too many players playing caw-blade, as I'm sure it would reck this deck. Tezzeret decks are also very problematic, with no solid answer to Tumble Magnet or Inkmoths.

Against control decks, most of the main list stays the same.... I'll add in the Mindsludge and get rid of something like Sorin - Hexmages come in against planeswalkers. To note, they're pretty good on a vat (lol). Against aggro decks, I swap out the Mindsludge, Sorin, and Shades and replace them with Disfigure, BSZ, Go for the throat, and maybe Hexmage (first strike is good against weenies).

EDIT: just saw that in fact the exact rule is 1 to the highest ranked player, 2 at random, 1 to the youngest. Damn.

    Nice try, youngest FNM player.

I was drafting triple SoM the other day and I was faced with either Necrogen Scudder or Arrest. I took the safer bet and went Arrest, and went on to draft a pretty consistent U/W metalcraft deck.

My question is, at what point would you consider having too many Necrogen Scudders? Pack two, I cracked a Necrogen Scudder, and the next two packs passed to me contained Necrogen Scudders. I could have had a playset of Scudders. Would a playset of Scudders be seen as playing with fire?
