Well, the other Genju are spirits manafesting themselves in the land, and although it would be really flavorful and cool for the 6th Genju to enchant legendary lands, how would they illistrate that? If they drew it, which land would they use to illistrate it with? I think it'd be really cool if they had the five color Genju, and I'd be curious to see which land they chose to illistrate
    Would it be Minamo Falls?
    You dont know!!!!:biggrin3:

Lol, it could actually fit in with all the other cards in Kamigawa, it'd fit in flavorwise.

Anyway...I...I...I finally gave up... if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, and thats what I've done. I tried Urzatron and it worked wonders!!! I couldn't believe it, I didn't realize how inconsistent my Bloom version actually was, untill I started getting 4th turn Tooths every single time I played with Urzatron. So, you guys win...Urzatron is better :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'(

But one question, this was a card choice that I discussed in another forum as well, I'm curious what your opinions are...We all know that to win on 4th turn you need to get some source of green accelerated out 1-3rd turn, in earlier builds this was Talisman of Unity, now it seems to be a toss-up between Simalacrum, Elder, and Vine Trellis.

What card do you think is the best at getting that second source of green mana in a forst-slim deck?

    Talisman of Unity?
    Sakura-Tribe Elder?
    Vine-Trellis?
    Solemn Simalacrum?

I already have 4 BOP in my deck but you also need one more source, and, in my opinion, the choice comes down to...Which can block affinity for a turn or more. So I think its a toss-up between the Elder and Vine-Trellis. I prefer the Trellis because it can block a frogmite all day long, but Elder seems good too, blocking a bigger creature for a turn. So, you guys decide, whats your personal preference?

I like the idea of the Patrons being wurmish things.

It said in the story that the Patrons became twisted, so maybe they looked more like their race before and how just turned more ferile and less like their race. I also think that, heh! They're mighty spirits! They're not going to look exactly like their respective races, so I like what the artists have done, put subtle similarities in the art. Like how on the Patron of the Akki's art you can see the same kind of shell on its head and the rest of its body, looking just like an Akki. I think its very cool.

I also really liked the story (minus the errors! :p ) Why don't they have as many stories as they did when Champions came out? I loved those!!!

If people drop Tooth and Nail from this deck they need to be shot. And soon.

    The card is too integral.

When I said drop Tooth and Nail, I meant drop the Deck, not the actual card. If they dropped the card, it wouldnt be a Tooth and Nail deck anymore...Good luck playing when you don't have anymore Urza's Mines! Evil Lol Evil Lol Evil Lol Evil Lol
It just makes sense to me that most red decks would run it, why not? Green decks run 4 copies of Oxidize just in case they run up against affinity, which happens alot, well with T&N so popular you've got just as much chance to run up against a T&N deck as an affinity deck. Even if it remains in sideboard, it can easily be played third turn, before we can even think about playing Tooth. So its just my opinion, maybe people will run it, maybe not. Only time will tell right? :wink3:

Yeah that would be cool, although it seems kinda unfair, since you're already gaining the bonus of card advantage, you probably don't need the addition of improved card quality for splicing.

yeah, so I don't think they'd be able to do that, would it say "splice onto non-arcane?" I also thought I heard someone high up (on WOTC) say that they wouldn't do that. Doesn't sound right. The humans fighting back would just be human magic with more kick to spirits, or the humans using arcane kami magic, I don't think they'd be splicing. It also doesn't make sense block-wise, it sorta disrupts the flow of the cards you know? all of a sudden instead of splicing onto arcane splicing onto normal? Seems like a rules nightmare waiting to happen. I mean I have enough trouble misreading my cards, let alone missing the Non in Non-arcane!!! HEADACHE!!!! Needless to say, they will have twists, possibly limits on what you can splice like maybe "splice onto black arcane" etc, althought that'd be just as confusing.

I think they'll just have alternative costs, not so sure about the human splice though

It seems that whenever a new set is on the rise, WOTC drops us plenty of hints about the cards, from all out previews to subtle hints that tell us what will be in the set, and what kind of cards we will see. These hints can sometimes help us identify cards in the set and I was wondering if they were planning another clever way of dropping a hint of whats to come in the new set...
    Card of the Day

I love looking at the card of the day for weird facts I would have never thought of on my own, but I always wondered, do they have something in common? Usually COTD has a theme and sometimes it even shows a pattern. Recently the cards have been...

    Terror-Card of the Day - Thursday, January 6, 2005
    Treetop Village-Friday, January 7, 2005
    Betrayal-Card of the Day - Monday, January 10, 2005
Murderous Betrayal-Card of the Day - Tuesday, January 11, 2005

Now, it may seem like just a few random cards, the two most recent seemingly to show the clever play on words "Betrayers" anyone? But look at Friday's Treetop Village, one of the original "man-lands" aren't they printing enchantments that look deceptively like "man-lands"? and terror-aren't they printing a card that will kill a legend for 1 and B? So on close inspection you can see that these cards look like the cards that we've recently seen on the spoilers. Does that mean that WOTC is leaking those cards on purpose so that you can see the connection on COTD, or are they dropping us hints through COTD for more of whats in store from BOK? Take a look at the past fiew COTD and keep looking at them when you're looking at the daily preview card, think about how that might appear on a new BOK card, I wouldn't be surprised if the next COTD would be one of the Eradicate etc cycle...would you??

  • posted a message on [BOK] That Which Was Taken
I agree with Silicon, in the books it talked about the Myojin of Cleansing fire crying when Konda captured the kami. But that figure doesn't look like a Myojjin, looks more like Konda himself.

I don't think that analysing the picture will help you figure out what the card does. We know what the picture depicts, (the thing Konda used to trap the myojin) where it is, (Konda's personal room in the top of his tower) and not much else about it.

My guess is that it has some cool ability against spirits. Since in the books Konda used it to trap a Myojjin, maybe it removes Indestructibility? Or maybe you tap it to destroy a spirit? Something along those lines....WAIT

You know...I just might have thought of something...If you read the book, you'd know that Konda's appearance hasn't changed since he got this...thing...so that would mean he's not aging, meaning he's immortal...meaning he's Indestructible? Where do you think he received Indestructibility on his card from? I bet this statue thingie gives him his indestructibility so that would mean that this card is...

That Which Was Taken - 5
    Legendary Artifact
4, T: Put a divinity counter on target permanent other than That Which Was Taken. Each permanent with a divinity counter on it is indestructible.

Which makes sense, seeing as how this statue trapped a Kami, so the kami was "that which was taken" so I bet you loads of money that this picture goes with That Which Was Taken. I deserve a badge for such awesome detective work!!! OH yeah!!!!

Curtesy of nontact, Mystical inverter. From another forum website I go to, he had this much to say about a WW deck he'd been working on.

"Well, I hope I can bring a moral boost to the WW fans/players. I just won my FNM tonight running WW. I was debating whether to play MUC or WW and I decided that a fast deck may catch my meta off guard since they're used to me playing controllish decks.

    Well here's the list:

    18 PLains
    2 Blinkmoth Nexus
    2 Chrome Mox

4 Samurai of the Pale Curtain
    4 Suntail Hawk
    4 Leonin Skyhunter
    3 Isamaru, Hound of Konda
    2 Savannah Lions
    2 Lantern Kami

    4 Glorious Anthem
    4 Otherworldly Journey
    4 Raise the Alarm
3 Sword of Fire and Ice

    SB:

    3 Damping Matrix
    4 Purge
    4 Ivory Mask
    4 Arrest

With this list I have 6 turn one flyers and 5 dogs and cats. I tried replacing the 4 savannah lions I had with lantern kamis and tested for a couple of days going off of what many of you had sugested. What I found was that in a control match-up where you're not facing early blockers the lions would have been nice to have. So just before I headed out the door to play I evened the count of lions and kamis to two a piece. Best of both worlds I felt. It worked out great.

Match one was against a mono green beats deck with beacon blasting combo. The first game I started beating down with small fliers and when I played glorious anthem he scooped while he was at 6 life. Game two I lost. I sided in damping matrix for the swords. Unfortunately I didn't find any matrixes while he kept sacking/recycling BoPs with a nasty Witness Rivive combo. He kept my board clean while he built enough creatures to have sacked them for fatal damage. I scooped while I was at 5 life. I might have still won but I thought it was better to get a fresh start. Game three I again won easily with a good start and a couple Glorious anthems in play.

Match two was against a player who usually beats me(and many others). He played the nafarious B/G deathcloud kokusho deck. He won the toss on game one so he played first. I saw the swamp so I decided to play the anthem in hand before laying my 2/2 creatures. No point losing them to echiong decay. I beat him down pretty savagely forcing him to deathcloud for 5. Droping him to 6 life and me to 14. He didn't notice the two mana I had up for otherworldly journey. Oh, and I had two Anthems in play. So I ended up with a 5/5 flyer when he was left with a guardian idol and a land. Game one in the bag. Game two was short as he couldn't find a green source of mana while I had two champions, several other creatures, and won easily on turn 5.

I'm I boring you guys yet?

Match three was against a fast red deck that won it's previous matches easily. Crazy old school tech like Lava Hounds, goblin king, raging goblins, and the new hearth kami, magma jet and the usually big red fare. Though he manageg to get me to 16 life during the first game 2 Auriok champions did him in. Game two was even faster as he stalled on a mountain and a blinkmoth.

    Phew that was long...

    MVP: Otherworldy Journey
    Runner Up: Raise the Alarm
    Second Runner Up: Auriok Champion

After I got my cool new life counter and prise cards(Foil Rancor and John Avon DCI lands), I played a match against a true Big Red deck. Seething song, Arc-slogger, Pulse of the forge etc. I have never beat this person in match play before. He is kind of the house mother(if one could use that analogy since we play at a store). I won game one and game three. Game two was close coming down to him mana burning him self enough to Pulse me fatal.

All in all this experience left me viewing WW in a highly favourable light. One interesting note though was that there was no affinity players, and only one Tron player."

Thought that would be an uplifting story for you fellow WW players, keep at it, we'll pull through!!!

Ok, I agree with the majority in thinking that Sowing Salt will have a big effect on the metagame. With all the T&N decks running around most red decks will have a few main deck and even more sideboard. Most red decks I've seen (red deck wins mostly) use Chrome Mox, so if Sowing Salt turns out to be a dead draw, they just turn it into more mana!!! Plus, by no means is sowing salt a dead card! Most decks nowadays are running 1-2 or more of the legendary lands, and any ponza deck would love to have a card that could potentially kill most T&N and just be effective against other decks!

Sowing Salt isn't the only card to be worrying about in BOK, Eradicate and Quash are both threats as well. But they way I see it, for me, these cards are a boon.

Many Tooth and Nail players I know (from other websites and in real life) are debating dropping Tooth because of Sowing Salt, they know how much it will hurt their deck and would rather try other decks, with Eradicate coming in, many are going towards G/B. Quash is another problem, its a weapon that G/U decks can use to "Cranial Extraction" without having to use a swamp!

With so many people leaving Tooth and Nail and heading to other colors, I believe its finally time to bring out my secret weapon, a deck I've been testing for some time. Bloom Tooth

This may not seem like a new idea, but it was certainly one that was scoffed at. I hesitated using it because of the overwhelming amount of green in the metagame, but with Tooth dying out and other colors rising to dominance, this may be changing. The deck has no nonbasic lands, so red decks eager to break Tooth with Sowing Salts will be sorely dissappointed. Quash is certainly easy enough to deal with, a sideboarded Dosan, and/or Boseiju will do the trick.

I'll post a deck list later and tell me what you think, but personally, I think that Bloom is the way to go. :wierd2::wierd2::wierd2:

Wow, I'm almost afraid I said that. After I posted I searched the site a bit and found out how much you guys really hate Bloom! The reason I play it is just for the day when most tooth decks will leave standard and majority of decks will not be playing green. I think Bloom has better matchup against affinity, sakura tribe elders instead of Sylvan Scryings...And is it really that bad in mirror? Most matches I face if I play Vernal Bloom 3rd turn, allowing me to play Tooth next turn, they already have enough mana to play it without my help! And most Tooth decks have trouble getting GG, so they'd only get one or two mana from Bloom. I still think its a good deck and perhaps with tweaking could be a good substitute if Sowing Salt proves to be too much of a problem

I think that with all the mention of the shifting color pie I'm pretty durn positive that its going to say "tap (up to) X target creatures"

Wizards is always talking about how the color pie is undergoing changes and this change has been happening for the past couple sets, so I think its more likely (and more exciting) then one that gains life, or prevents damage

    I hope I'm right! :biggrin3: :p

I'm really happy about the Patron of the Orochi, snake decks were already in the works with awesome cards such as Elder, Sosuke's Summons and Sosuke himself! So this thing is deffinately going to see play, I doubt as much in Type 2 as in Block.
I'm also loving the Patron of the Moon, he's totally going in my Moonfolk deck! LOL!!!
I'm completely serious, I've got a moonfolk deck, its going to rock block!!!!!
