It's an efficient colorless beater with the ability to scale and resilience to spot removal. Those traits have been fairly well coveted for years in Magic, I suspect this guys will have a home in a bunch of places.

There is a spot for this in Pauper walls for sure.

Bloodghast this is not. For that matter Prized amalgam, Sliversmote ghoul, Ichord this is not either. I guess it will see play somewhere but it feels very grindy and not that great for a grindy card.

There are any number of modern decks that have no other strategy but to fetch into shocks. This guy on turn 2 as a 3/3
is not only gonna happen a lot bit it just means hes vulnerable to bolt (but so is so much else,) and he's gonna grow into a 5/5 and beyond with good certainty

T1 goblin guide into this is gonna be scary.

I think this is the most powerful card in the set by a mile. Nit a high bar for this set but still.

Where as deaths shadow is basically limited to deaths shadow lists, I can see this being run in just everyday grindy lists like jund. Not as good as goyf early, probably much better late game or in a topdeck war. Kicking it against a control match is also probably huge game.

Just tried Jund against RG Ponza in Modern for a few rounds. Scourge of the Skyclaves was a 3/3 or smaller for too long (for one notable game, Jund was at 20 life for the first 7 turns of the game).

Scourge is absolutely nuts late-game, but I need a suicidal aggro deck to make this worth playing early- or mid-game.

I dont imagine playing this turn 2 will always be the right call, but I don't think it's hard to believe by turn 2 both players have fetched and shocked at least once. You can control the loss of your own life pretty well and all you really need to do is hit once or twice for this thing to be a must answer.

    A slightly worse Adventuring Gear.

Not really though. Free equip is a big gain on turn 2 before you play a land.

I read it as STRONG MAD TREACHERY

This feels really strong. Counters + easy to turn on flying for 2 mana is a lot. On turn 3 its easily 3/3 flying with a fetch, 5/5 on turn 4? Totally punches above it's weight.

Modern jund might just have room for this. Going over the top with flying is likely worth it. It is very pushed.

I seem to remember steppe lynx being as, if not more powerful than goblin guide in Zendikar standard. I feel like this little dude could have a place in burn decks in formats with fetches because it can put down 8 damage by itself turn 3 and only swiftspear is close to that.

So really this is just a variant of Split cards we have done a bunch of times already with the exception that it can be different types of cards.

I still on a very fundamental level hate double faced cards.

"A white creature that can make an opponent lose the game simply by attacking them no matter how much life they have"

Has no one thought to mention the simplest version of this? A creature with Power X, where X is your opponents life total?

Inkmoth just had a Secret Lair release with pretty fun art, so I don't think we should be complaining about there not being enough of them.

Rare and Mythic also has no legal definition and there is no formal standard set forward by WOTC. It has varied set to set and year to year. Just by virtue of how the cards are distributed one could argue they are Rare and Mythic because there are less of them and they are harder to get. How rare or Mythic is a card in a fixed card set for instance? For the most part mythics in something like the Commander set are equally as rare as some of the rares or commons in that same set.

End of the day, they printed the rare symbol on common cards that take up this slot, and that is as much a rare as anything else.
