I think it's funny that in order to balance eleven they had to make everyone she partnered with kinda lousy. If you want to go 5 colors she would have to go with Mike and that offers pretty minimal synergy. Eleven does seem fun though.

There is a comic book? I assume there is no polybag promo which is the primary reason these things ever move, thus why we have not heard about it.

My prediction on this set is that it plays out just like the original story, and then we get like a fractured timeline thing where the modern day phyrexians and praetors show up instead of the original one. Or maybe it is not an alternate storyline at all but rather it shows that all of this was caused by the Phyrexians in the first place.

This way it advances the storyline we have in place with Vorinclex showing up in Kaldheim and we figure out more of what is undoubtably going to be the big final story arc, and maybe it can include the mainline walkers we have in the story modern day.

Another question. Would it have killed them to make it 2d6 instead of D12. I know that means the scores would not be a flat distribution and rather weighted towards 7 with no chance of a 1, but d6es are so much more common to find just lying around than d12s.

So thats the text book example of a problem that doesnt need to exist in the first place, and you use a APP to solve that problem ... which can be entirely avoided if the card doesnt use a D12 in the first place ... which is the entire point of critique that using a D12 is awful card gameplay design.

You always need the Smartphone and Internet Connection for Magic play, especially in tournament setting. You need it to set life totals (because d20 can always be moved by the table and mess the result), you need it to check what's the correct oracle text / errata of any card you wish and last, but not last, you need it to check how interaction between cards works or what is written in the comprehensive rules about a specific rule, since this is already the most complex game in the world

So yes, to play properly this game you actually need a smartphone and that's no big deal because as I said, everybody have a smartphone and an internet connection. Having an app for dice rolls isn't worse or more difficult than doing anything I listed above..

This is a really privileged statement. I played Magic before smartphones existed, and I play it in no small part because it is not a digital endeavor. There are PLENTY of people out there without smartphone, be they poor or just young kids who should not have one yet. Does it help in some cases, sure, but you absolutely should not need one.

You don't see other games requiring you to need a smart phone. Pokemon keeps it to coin flips and gives you the coin for instance. If you want to use your phone to play a ccg then you can play arena or heartstone.

Does that textbox font not look entirely off? I cannot be alone in thinking this.

Interesting that they went with the Stranger Things version of the Demogorgon, at least in the face. I think the Demogorgon I knew from my D&D days had like... Two Baboon heads and tentacles and stuff.

I think they drew the art in such as way that you can see 2 heads, or you can see the flower head of the Stranger Things version. I think it is very intentional that the flavor text mentions "will" over and over again in that you can kinda read it like:

    The good Will was corrupted
    The kind Will was devoured

Since this kinda plays into what happens to will after the first season of being in the upside down. And the abyss is of course the upside down.

Can someone please break Demilich with some hardcore meme decking? Here is a start:

    4 Demilich
    4 Pact of the titan
    4 Summoners pact
    4 Pact of Negation
    4 First Day of Class
    4 Chatterstorm
    4 Manamorphose
    4 street wraith
    4 Angels Grace
    + Fast Mana rituals
    + Some lands

    Someone make this happen.

If you can infinite on either of them then I think it's gonna be moot most of the time. Maybe having the land in your hand is better for discard stuff, who knows.

I HIGHLY doubt she would see play as commander in any real number over Thrasios because of the lack of partner and the overall similarity of the card.

Pauper plant for Turbo walls, gonna replace or supplement bloodrite invoker as the wincon since you can just run phandelver for a point of damage over and over again as long as your deck is larger than their life total, plus it is a wall.

EDH staple I'm guessing. Venturing as a second ability is a lot more rewarding than a lot of the other 3 cost rocks in the format.

It's slightly better than Undying, since it doesn't require that the target doesn't already have a +1/+1 counter.

And slightly worse because your dork comes back tapped, but that's a nitpick.

I think the incremental value from venture is probably enough for the type of deck that wants this effect in the first place. Giving haste to soul-scar mage or Ragavan isn't terrible. Scry, Goblin, +1 counter, Draw a card is not a bad chain of effects for even fast decks.

Probably the real home for this is going to be some sort of pauper deck, but I could see this in standard aggro builds.

Feels like it should be killable but when it dies it suspends ala Epochrasite. Flavor fail and after just getting out of MH2 and how powerful the set was it's a bit sad.

There is a Legacy deck out there somewhere that is going to go

    T1 Taiga, Kobolt
T2 Invigorate, Mutagenic Growth, attack, Put nicol Bolas into play tapped and attacking

Though I guess you can replace bolas with The Ur Dragon, bogardan hellkite, etc
