And I'll make a note of my Twilights for you as well! :3

    Thank ye'! Grin
I'm really hoping for at least one shiny Twilight as well. I'd also like to get half a dozen or so of The Great and Powerful Trixie since I have a few MtG decks that produce multiple kinds of different tokens, so I won't be able to use my Twily tokens for everything without confusing the board state.

I think when I'm done cracking my box I'll probably make a thread in the non-MTG related sales/trade section for trading pony cards.

    Most excellent! Grin
I'm really excited to get my box as well. As much as I'd like to rip it open the moment it arrives in the mail I did promise a brony friend that I'd wait for him to get off work so we can crack the box together. I'll be sure to save all my Fluttershys to trade ya though DakmorQueen Kekeke

Well... there is that Lyra "plushie"... Rolleyes

Well you see, not everypony who gets a plushie wants theirs for the reasons that someponies make plushies and... oh hey, would you look at the time! I think it's time for a change of subject!

Speaking of which, anyone who is interested in that new set of MLP trading cards should totally check out http://mlp.tcgtrading.com/view.php and http://chimicherrychanga.com/tradingcards.html to see the lists (with visual spoilers!) of all the known cards at the moment. Boxes won't start shipping until tomorrow so there's still some common rarity (as in availability, not the pony) foils that remain unknown but the lists on those pages are mostly complete.

    Have fun! Kekeke

    Hello again everyone! Kekeke
I said a few months back that I'd return sometime in the summer to running my little monster again and, well, here I am!
It's great to see that this thread has been so active in my absence and I'm really intrigued by the Doomsday variations people have come up with. I never thought of trying Doomsday in the deck (mainly due to the fact that Lions Eye Diamond is out of budget) but I'll definitely be giving it some thorough testing since a lot of people seem to be liking it. My only initial concern about it before testing is that by giving the deck a "engine" you greatly reduce it's resiliency to countermagic. The deck at that point stops being about chaining spells in a free flowing and non-linear fashion and becomes about searching for and resolving Doomsday (after casting 3 or 4 spells beforehand for the necessary storm count).
This also requires a level of pre-comboing setup the deck hasn't needed before. Your focus becomes not only resolving Doomsday with 3 or 4 spells cast beforehand and at least 3 mana floating afterwords (or 2 if you're going for Ideas Unbound to draw most of the pile), but also making sure you have a cantrip available to get the first card off the top of the Doomsday pile into your hand. Then there's the matter of pretty much needing to have protection to go off against anything playing blue, because if anything gets countered after you cast Doomsday you're just completely out of luck and not going to get another chance at it. Open basket, insert eggs.

Another way to look at is is that the goal of the standard Sac Land Tendrils build comes down to 4 simple parts...

    1. Make lots of mana.
    2. Filter the mana into the colors you need to cast spells.
    3. Draw lots of cards.
    4. Cast Tendrils of Agony for lethal.

When you add Doomsday and the other necessary components to the mix the goal of the deck changes. The goals now become...

    1. Use protection spells to make sure the opponent can't stop you.
    2. Make sure you have a cantrip in hand or on the board (in the case of Stars/Spheres).
    3. Find Doomsday.
    4. Cast at least 3-4 spells followed by Doomsday.
    5. Chain your Doomsday pile into Tendrils of Agony for lethal.

From that point of view, Doomsday does make the deck more focused but also more potentially prone to failure in the face of disruption. When you focus the deck around Doomsday you end up with a lot more specific requirements that are needed to safely combo off, making the success of your plan more situationally dependent. Again though, I'm definitely going to test Doomsday to see how it goes. Perhaps I'll find that the addition of a reliable "engine" balances out the need for more pre-combo setup. Or perhaps I'll end up preferring the more organic non-linear style of the original build, only time and testing will tell. No matter what conclusion I come to I'm still definitely excited at giving these Doomsday variations a try! Grin

    Yay! I love hugs! Grin

Whew... anyhoo, I was kinda in the same boat as you regarding commissions. Up until I got my Twilight plushie I had never approached anyone about a commission before. Fortunately though KarasuNezumi was very nice and friendly and was great about communication through the whole process. She was nothing but a joy to work with, so my first commission experience was definitely a positive one. Given the rather high price these custom plushies tend to go for though I don't think I'll be getting another one any time in the near future, but I've been totally thrilled with my Twily plush and definitely think she was worth every penny. The IRL pony hugs and untold hours of snuggling that will no doubt occur is something that's hard to put a price on LOL

Also, if you do decide at some point to get a commission from Karasu she did tell me that Fluttershy is her favorite pony so you two would totally get along. Kekeke

Wait. They have pony plusies?! o.O

    Want.

Well, Hasbro doesn't make any (good looking / show accurate) pony plushies, but there are a large number of very talented artists you can find on Deviant Art who take commissions and will make you a pony plushie of your very own if you want one. My Twilight plush was made by KarasuNezumi, and she is taking commissions right now. Kekeke

There are tons of other great plushie makers out there too, Hystree, WhiteDove-Creations, and MakeshiftWings being a few of my other favorites (though I don't think any of them are open for commissions at the moment). If you're on DeviantArt and are thinking about getting a plushie of your favorite pony at some point I'd highly recommend putting the My Little Plushie Group on your watch list. Pretty much every plushie maker in the community submits their work to that group's gallery, so every time someone makes a new plushie you'll get to see it. It's a great way to get familiar with what's out there and get introduced to a bunch of awesome plushie artists you might have never seen otherwise. Smile

    Hope that helps!

Oh man, that's a great story Lithl! Grin
Shame you had to put in your 2 weeks notice, but I do hope you've got a new job lined up to take it's place. I'm in a similar boat myself (job sucks, need more hours/money) but I've yet to find something to replace it so I'm just sticking with it until I can find something better.

On a completely different note, my playgroup just got a new member today! Smile
She's pretty darn good too. Beat me 26 games in a row of Pauper earlier tonight until I finally just gave up and accepted my defeat. Then again, I'm not sure whatever gave me the idea that I could actually win a game against...

And another great one it was! I play a LOT of casual multiplayer and Commander and the politics aspect of the game on those formats is usually pretty interesting.

  • posted a message on Maralen of the Mornsong + Phyrexian Arena : Do I still lose 1 life every upkeep?
What I'm trying to figure out is if I have Maralen of the Mornsong and Phyrexian Arena on the field, do I still lose 1 life from Phyrexian Arena? The same question goes for Seizan, Preverter of Truth. If Maralen is on the field with this guy does each player still lose 2 life to Seizan each upkeep or does no life loss occur since no one can draw cards?

This is another one of those great Commander format cards that won't see play anywhere else due to it's mana cost. But hey, if you've got Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers in your Commander deck than you're gonna love this tutor.

If I was going to attend an event where a Vintage tournament was being held and there were Moxen, Workshops, and other Vintage staples available for rent at a reasonable price I would definitely rent some to compete in the tournament with. I love Vintage but have never been able to afford to play it without proxies.

  • posted a message on The most balanced card in MTG?
After thinking about it for a bit I came to the conclusion that the most balanced (I.E. very powerful but completely fair and not "broken") cards in MTG's history are the original dual lands. Their power level is extremely high, they're highly sought after for use in every eternal format, and yet I've never once felt that they were at all overpowered or broken in any way. So that's where my vote goes : Badlands, Bayou, Plateau, Savannah, Scrubland, Taiga, Tropical Island, Tundra, Underground Sea, and Volcanic Island. They're the bread and butter of multi-color decks and in spite of tapping for two different colors of mana they're still not strictly better than a basic land, since cards like Wasteland and many other forms other non-basic land destruction exist. Their excellent color fixing is balanced out very nicely by the fact that they create vulnerabilities in the deck's mana base, which makes them very fair IMHO.
