Looking for sub $20 standard deck to take to FNM. haven't really studied this block or meta
Can be any archetype/colour, don't really mind. I've seen some RDW, Mono black aggro, even turbofog, but not really sure which would be most suitable at the meta of my intended LGS, so if anyone's got thoughts on those and how they match up to the Tier 1 decks
I've played MTG for many years but quit around end of Eldrazi block because of real life/finance
Now i have a bit more time, but not much money - so really looking for a budget option to just go to FNM and mingle with other mtg players.
Hi there, I'm pretty much in the same boat as Bedlight.
Been playing Standard format on paper for years but quit last year due to the price of playing the format, and now keen to get started on MTGO Pauper.
I've read the primers and watched a few vids, at this point I think I'm going to build a MBC to get my feet off the ground (full deck I think is less than 5 tix). Would I be welcome to join the clan to playtest/bounce ideas/get to know other players?
I used to play UR Runeflare competitively before rotation
These are some 'hero' cards from my experience;
1 drops: Lightning Bolt, Preordain (Preordain, seriously one of the best turn-1 play). Voltaic Key is also very useful and needed in this new version
2 drops: Mana Leak, now that Howling Mine is gone - we can replace with maybe Spreading Seas or Prophetic Prism since this deck is a bit more mana intensive
3 drops: Temple Bell, Jace Beleren
5 drops: Molten Psyche + Reverb. You probably never want to cast a Psyche on its own. You want to combo out and kill your opponent in a single turn (one-shotting).
excess Prophetic Prisms + Throne of Geth... you're really thinking outside the box here
but since your'e running Prisms, I think putting white in it for Elsepth + Gideon can be viable for you. Not to mention adding both of them will supercharge your deck into something even more powerful.
With 4 prisms, you're very likely to have one in your opening hand helping you fix your mana.
I vote YES for a budget forum, because there are actually people who play this game but can't afford to fork out $50+ for a single card, let alone playsets of them. A budget forum would allow budget players to discuss with other players in the same situation and promote more deck discussion within the budget bracket of play.

I Use this combo as I don't use timewarp. I don't use pyretic ritual though, might as well try that. I even maindeck 2 Leylines of Anticipation just in case the game will draw to the last five turns. You can imagine the face of my opponent and the judge when i go to infinite mana on the last turn my opponent's turn, then draw until i can get a lightning bolt w/ call to mind combo and or banefire.
How do you go infinite withoutr Pyretic Ritual? i'm just curious cuz i dunno much about this deck and hiow the combo realy works
I opted to run Momentous Fall as my "refuel" card instead of Grim Discovery, but I know how good GD can be. Fall also acts as a stall - you could potentially pump your vampire to like a 7/7, gain 7 life and completely refill your hand.
I did try other cards such as Quest for the Gravelord (it can also give you a 5/5 after a DoJ), it goes online so quickly giving you a decent-sized body for cheap.
Also contemplated putting in Overwhelming Stampede in the event that you needed trample, but this card is more of a win-more. With a few creatures on the board, pump your vampire up to 5/5 or more, then cast Stampede for a lethal swing + trample.
Not sure how many Dark Tutelages you would run, you dno't want it to become a dead card... where as Sign in Blood is almost never dead, unless you're in the red zone
If you're not playing Reassembling Skeletons and Dark Tutelage, I feel like you are giving up on two of our must powerful cards.
I started with Chapin's original list that he posted, did some of my own testing, along with discussion between he and I, as well as my own groups input, and came up with the following..
This is the current build I've settled on, a few tweaks to work out still, but it's been testing pretty well against everything.
4 Nantuko Shades is just too many, this guy has pretty intense dimishing returns, and you shouldn't be playing him until Mind Sludge anyway. The 2 Shades and 2 Grave Titans have been perfectly fine for finishers.
Gatekeepers and Skeletons help us buy time to set up our Mind Sludges and whatnot.
The Disfigures help against Mythic a bit, I'm probably going to sideboard the full compliment, as that match-up is very blah game 1.
Not playing Dark Tutelage+Ball is, and I'm sorry for saying this, absolutely rediculous and a very big mistake. Even without ball, you have Tendrils, Corrupt, and Collars to help regain lost life...and While Ball and Tutelage is assembled it is extremely powerful.
3 Mind Sludge because it's pretty much the best turn 4 or 5 play.
2 Corrupt to help kill them late, assuming we can't crush them with Shades or Titans.
The artifact package has been working very well, Sword of Vengeance turns even our skeletons into a decent clock, and giving trample to Shade or Titan(thanks to the reworked deathtouch rule) is very solid. Collar offset life loss, and lets our skeletons or gatekeepers trade way up. Crystal Ball is solid even without Tutelage, but with Tutelage it's quite insane.
All in all, more testing is still required, but this is the most solid list I've come to, and I'm going to continue development from this point.
Can you post a link to Chapin's original MBC?
I'm just curious as to whether or not Basilisk Collar and/or Sword of Vengeance were in Chapin's list which you built your variation around.....

Kind regards.
Just wondering how many tickets would a budget/cheaper variant of the UB Flicker cost and where I can check that?
I should clarify I've played paper magic all my life but never tried MTGO/MODO before.

Maybe splash either green or blue for bounce effects or Naturalize?

Any thoughts?
Sometimes it'll just CIPT without being able to activate its effect.
Not worth it.
