The End of an Era

    Quote from pierrebai
p1p1: I think I'd tale the grove, but I may take the charm. Or the reverse. Smile I just like Selesnya Charm because it provides all the sides the guild need, but 8/8 token in a populate deck is just too tempting.
p1p2: for me it's between connection, trotani's judgment, giant growth, and valor. I think I'd take the connection and keep my option open.
p1p3: tough call, but I'd pick the giant growth or golgari longlegs. I think I'd go with longlegs.
p1p4: axebane. We have a high CMC deck so far...
p1p5: mind rot, scorpion or justice. I'd take the scorpion.
p1p6: shadow or strike. I'd take the strike.
p1p7: longlegs or imp. I'd take the imp, but now I regret taking that other longlegs early.
p1p8: locust. Eeek at my curve.
    p1p9: shadow.
    p1p10: giant growth.
    p1p11: terrus wurm.

(Here, we've divereged, so my picks will probably be worse to to signal.)

p2p1: beastmaster. If we can scavenge something onto her (or giant growth...)
p2p2: lobber crew and we go BRG or sewer shamber or indrik. I'll tak eteh shambler and hope to landwalk the ones who picked the crew.
    p2p3: abrupt decay.
    p2p4: rogue passage.
    p2p5: rhino
    p2p6: ogre jailbreaker.
p2p7: another ogre, although that common bond is tempting with a small splash.
    p2p8: slitherhead.
    p2p9: slum reaper.
    p2p10: launch party.

    p3p1: shaman.
p3p2: there's nothing amazing in GB, so I take the hellsteed and may splash red.
p3p3: golgari charm (or predation, but I like the diversity of the charm.)
    p3p4: golgari gate.
p3p5: giant growth (mislabeled as p3p4, you're off from this point on).
p3p6: err.... grisly salvage I guess.
    p3p8: rakdos guildgate.
p3p9: reveler or crocodile? I think reveler.

Not too bad, but not great. I got connection for CA, beastmaster with multiple growth effects, a nice splashes finisher. And Shaman can close game and keep me alive. I got multiple 4/4 and 5/4, too, so it's not too bad.

Can you make a decklist? I'd like to see if it turned out better than my final list, but it's pretty likely it did. lol

I still like my first two picks. I don't like sending signals that MY color is open in a multicolor set. I want to give myself an identity or stay open with splashable cards.

Hey all wanted to post a draftcap. I don't have MODO, but I'm considering investing in it soon. I did this draft on CCG decks and played the matches on Cockatrice. I only got to play 1 match because I had to go do chores. Regardless, I want feedback on picks and some of my play in round 1.

NOTE: For some stupid reason CCG Decks doesn't have a draftcap feature. So I had to change to the view that only shows card names and copy and paste every pack into Word then take note of what I picked. When I copied them into here I put them into deck tags so I didn't have to tag each card individually which would take hours.

    Draft
    Pack 1:
    P1p1:
Mountain, Destroy the Evidence, Skull Rend, Perilous Shadow, Dynacharge, Sunspire Griffin, Doorkeeper, Towering Indrik, Vassal Soul, Pursuit of Flight, Rubbleback Rhino Azorius Keyrune, Selesnya Charm, Aquus Steed, Grove of the Guardian

Pick: Pursuit of Flight. This pack has a lot of above average cards and some average ones. I didn't want to take Grove b/c it's a colorless land, and I didn't want to take Seles Charm while passing a Grove and Griffin. From there it was really between Griffin, Keyrune, and Pursuit of Flight, which I think are all better than Indrik and Vassal Soul. I took the Pursuit b/c taking Keyrune or Griffin while passing the other and Vassal Soul is still kind of sketchy. I love this pack, and want to hear others opinions on it.

    P1p2:
Swamp, Golgari Longlegs, Trostani's Judgment, Rakdos Shred-Freak, Swift Justice, Druid's Deliverance, Knightly Valor, Giant Growth, Rubbleback Rhino, Batterhorn, Judge's Familiar, Nivix Guildmage, Civic Saber, Underworld Connections

Pick: Nivix Guildmage. I just passed 2 Seles cards, a white card, and 2 Azorius cards, so I immediately disregarded Knightly Valor, Giant Growth, and Trostani's Judgment. Underworld Connections is powerful, but I was turned off because it's only good in certain decks, especially since black tends to be overdrafted because of Stab Wound. From there Nivix was the clear choice. There are no other Izzet cards in the pack and I already have a Pursuit of Flight out of another pack that had no Izzet Cards. I also noted the Civic Saber as it's very good in Izzet because of all the 2 drops that are U and R, and I actually feel deprived when I don't have it. I hoped the Saber would wheel. Feeling good so far.

    P1p3:
Plains, Horncaller's Chant, Ethereal Armor, Viashino Racketeer, Mizzium Skin, Knightly Valor, Azorius Arrester, Terrus Wurm, Golgari Longlegs,Giant Growth, Security Blockade, Tablet of the Guilds, Temple Garden

Pick:Knightly Valor. Boo. I was not excited taking it after passing all the other good white and green cards. But the rest of the pack was not very good. I just took the best card in the pack. I'm still reasonably certain I'll be Izzet or Izzet splash white since there's no way in hell I'm getting white or green in pack 2 and the person passing to me is likely black.

    P1p4:
Forest, Seller of Songbirds, Golgari Guildgate, Mind Rot, Axebane Guardian, Paralyzing Grasp, Cremate, Survey the Wreckage, Swift Justice, Isperia's Skywatch, Rakdos Charm, Goblin Rally

Pick: Goblin Rally. Pretty easy. Disregarded Axebane Guardian since green is for sure going to be cut in pack 2, passing it also signals I'm not green so I'll get more cards passed to me that I want in pack 2. Paralyzing Grasp is below average and even bad, Skywatch is a little too steep on the curve in Izzet and they're easy to pick up later anyway. I will gladly curve out at Goblin Rally in Izzet and hopefully pick up Dynacharge or Teleportal to go with it.

    P1p5:
Island, Inaction Injunction, Swift Justice, Doorkeeper, Mind Rot, Seller of Songbirds, Sluiceway Scorpion, Search Warrant, Survey the Wreckage, Risen Sanctuary, Tablet of the Guilds

Pick: Inaction Injunction. Always happy to have this card. There's not much in this pack. Seller and Scorpion are pretty late but they're average and by no means a reason to make any sudden moves.

    P1p6:
Mountain, Perilous Shadow, Doorkeeper, Mind Rot, Concordia Pegasus, Swift Justice, Stealer of Secrets, Racecourse Fury, Assassin's Strike, Treasured Find

Pick: Stealer of Secrets. Seems to be a lot of Doorkeepers in this draft, huh. The next best cards are Swift Justice, Pegasus, and Shadow, followed by Assasin's Strike. I'm clearly not black and I've already passed a million white cards so I dismissed all of those cards in favor of the Stealer. I'm also happy to have Stealer in a deck with Pursuit of Flight and Inaction Injunction.

    P1p7:
Island, Izzet Guildgate, Daggerdrome Imp, Runewing, Grisly Salvage, Golgari Longlegs, Rakdos Guildgate, Racecourse Fury, Conjured Currency,

Pick: Izzet Guildgate. Runewing is not very good and Conjured Currency is....questionable. I've gone deep with Currency before but I don't think this is the deck for a 6 mana card that has no immediate impact on the board. I considered Rakdos Guildgate so I could splash something absurd like a Carnival Hellstead incase that happened, but I really hate having mana problems in this format so I took the Gate that's both of my colors; and I really don't find it that hard to stay 2 colors.

    P1p8:
Plains, Goblin Electromancer, Essence Backlash, Search Warrant, Skull Rend, Tower Drake, Dramatic Rescue, Zanikev Locust.

Pick: Goblin Electromancer. Basic pick here. Tower drake is unexciting as a 2/1 for three. While Electromancers usually go pretty late, nothing else in this pack was remotely good.

    P1p9:
Mountain, Destroy the Evidence, Skull Rend, Perilous Shadow, Dynacharge, Doorkeeper, Vassal Soul

Pick: Vassal Soul. Back to pack 1. Clearly, all the white and Seles cards are gone. I took the Soul, but looking back I regret it. Dynacharge is way better in Izzet and is insane with the Goblin Rally I have. It's also not hard to get creatures later. Not really sure though, I guess it was kind of close-ish but not for me. Mispick in my opinion.

    P1p10:
Swamp, Rakdos Shred-Freak, Giant Growth, Rubbleback Rhino, Batterhorn, Civic Saber

Pick: Civic Saber. It wheeled! Shred-freak is not good, Batterhorn is not good maindeck. That late of a Giant Growth worries me a little bit but this pack was very above average so whatever.

    P1p11:
Plains, Horncaller's Chant, Viashino Racketeer, Mizzium Skin, Terrus Wurm.

Pick: Mizzium Skin. Viashino as a 2/1 for 3 is very not good. You run it as it as a 23rd card if you have nothing better but Mizzium Skin does that same role while also being a great sideboard card.

    P1p12:
Forest, Mind Rot, Survey the Wreckage, Rakdos Charm
    Nothing to say.

    P1p13:
Island, Mind Rot, Survey the Wreckage
    Ditto.

    P1p14:
    Mountain, Racecourse Fury.

    Pick: Mountain. Yes.

    Land Pick.

    P2p1:
Forest, Daggerdrome Imp, Keening Apparition, Survey the Wreckage, Selesnya Guildgate, Axebane Guardian, Stealer of Secrets, Gatecreeper Vine, Lobber Crew, Voidwielder, Ethereal Armor, Thoughtflare, Security Blockade, Slum Reaper, Wild Beastmaster

Pick: Voidwielder. I considered going deep and splashing Beastmaster but there are no UG or RG fixing cards in the set other than Chromatic Lantern. Stealer and Crew are great 3 drops but I don't think Crew is at it's best in the aggro deck and Stealer isn't as good as Voidweilder and Thoughtflare in my opinion. Thoughtflare is good, but I don't think it's the 5 mana play I want in an aggro/middle game deck. I want my 5 mana play to clear a large blocker and blocks their little guys, essential for racing. I still think it's close. At least one of the other cards will wheel considering the cards I passed in pack 1.

    P2p2:
Forest, Golgari Longlegs, Launch Party, Stealer of Secrets, Towering Indrik, Sewer Shambler, Isperia's Skywatch, Stonefare Crocodile, Lobber Crew, Seller of Songbirds, Azorius Arrester, Codex Shredder, Soulsworn Spirit, Goblin Rally

Pick: Lobber Crew. I like Goblin Rally a lot for reasons I already talked about, but I didn't think I needed a second one. If I had that Dynacharge I would have leaned closer to it. Crew is way better in Izzet Control but still great in aggro. It gives you a bit of reach and blocks their small guys. As far as taking over Soulsword Spirit, I wasn't sure. Spirit gives more reach with Civic Saber on it but Crew also blocks while doing slightly less damage. This was probably a mis pick looking back because the deck wants a high damage to card ratio, similar to a burn deck.

P2p3: Swamp, Drainpipe Vermin, Viashino Racketeer, Traitorous Instinct,Gatecreeper Vine, Spawn of Rix Maadi, Gore-House Chainwalker, Chronic Flooding, Dramatic Rescue, Goblin Rally, Savage Surge, Izzet Staticaster, Abrupt Decay

Pick: Gore-House Chainwalker. I was sad to pass Traitorous Instinct and Staticaster but the deck needs an abundance of good 2-drops. Staticaster isn't even all that great, so I wasn't too upset.

P2p4: Forest, Sundering Growth, Grim Roustabout, Tenement Crasher, Sewer Shambler, Cobblebrute, Trained Caracal, Spawn of Rix Maadi, Goblin Rally, Rogue's Passage, Rakdos Ragemutt, Search the City

Pick: Goblin Rally. It was between Rogue's Passage for reach or Rally to make future potential Dynacharges or Teleportals the stone nuts. Not sure whether this was close. I also considered Crasher but they're not hard to get later and Rally is more unique.

P2p5: Mountain, Eyes in the Skies, Lobber Crew, Terrus Wurm, Isperia's Skywatch, Splatter Thug, Rubbleback Rhino, Axebane Stag, Runewing, Rakdos Guildgate, Racecourse Fury

Pick: Lobber Crew. This was for sure a mispick that I got really upset about. I immediately saw the Lobber Crew and just took it without a thought b/c nothing else in the pack was good. But then I realized there was also a Splatter Thug which I think is way better for the deck. Crew is better in Izzet Control but at this point I was definitely Izzet Aggro where Thug is needed to punch through annoying centaurs. Mispick, but not the worst mispick in the universe.

    P2p6:
Plains, Viashino Racketeer, Dead Reveler, Deviant Glee, Terrus Wurm, Ogre Jailbreaker, Giant Growth, Shrieking Affliction, Vandalblast, Nivmagus Elemental

Pick: Nivmagus Elemental. Bad pack for me. I took the Nivmagus since it's not the worst 23rd card and actually isn't horrendous to go Turn 1 Magus turn 2 Civic Saber equip, swing for 3.

    P2p7:
Mountain, Inspiration, Bellows Lizard, Splatter Thug, Common Bond, Cobblebrute, Grisly Salvage, Ogre Jailbreaker, Golgari Keyrune

Pick: Splatter Thug. Not particularly close. Common Bond that late with at least infinite Seles drafters from what I did in pack 1 worried me, b/c the rest of the pack must have been insane.

    P2p8:
Mountain, Survey the Wreckage, Essence Backlash, Chronic Flooding, Grisly Salvage, Catacomb Slug, Slitherhead, Codex Shredder.
Pick: Essence Backlash. Decent sideboard card with nothing else remotely good left in this pack.

    P2p9:
Forest, Daggerdrome Imp, Keening Apparition, Survey the Wreckage, Gatecreeper Vine, Lobber Crew, Slum Reaper.

Pick: Lobber Crew. Phew, something from pick 1 wheeled. Thoughtflare is gone, but that doesn't worry me too much b/c Izzet still seems reasonably open, and it could just be someone splashing it in their mono green 6 color deck.

    P2p10:
Forest, Golgari Longlegs, Launch Party, Stonefare Crocodile, Codex Shredder, Goblin Rally

Pick: Goblin Rally. This didn't surprise me too much b/c Rally always goes late. Even so, I already have 2 and probably won't maindeck more than that unless pack 3 is really good to me with Dynacharges and Teleportals.

    P2p11:
Swamp, Viashino Racketeer, Spawn of Rix Maadi, Chronic Flooding, Goblin Rally

Pick: Goblin Rally. I'm not sure if it will be correct to main deck all these, but I'll certainly have enough of them.

    P2p12:
Forest, Tenement Crasher, Spawn of Rix Maadi, Search the City

Pick: Tenement Craher. Solid, punches through the last bit of walls they can muster after you get them low on life.
Nothing to say really about the last three packs. Some Axebane Stags here, Terrus Wurms there.

    P3p1:
Swamp, Horncaller's Chant, Centaur's Herald, Trained Caracal, Downsize, Tenement Crasher, Dead Reveler, Knightly Valor, Azorius Guildgate, Stonefare Crocodile, Drainpipe Vermin, Skyline Predator, Soul Tithe, Selesnya Charm, Deathrite Shaman

Pick: Skyline Predator. There wasn't really anything else for me here. Predator is nice top of the curve, and since it has flash I can leave open Guilmage mana and stuff on their turn.

    P3p2:
Swamp, Trostani's Judgment, Terrus Wurm, Skull Rend, Spawn of Rix Maadi, Trained Caracal, Grisly Salvage, Centaur's Herald, Stealer of Secrets, Cancel, Sphere of Safety, Blistercoil Weird, Slum Reaper, Carnival Hellsteed

Pick: Stealer of Secrets. I always see the dang Hellsteed in drafts that I can't play it. I considered picking it but I had no fxing and didn't want to risk not getting fixing. I had passed 2 Rakdos Guildgates this draft but I'm not psychic. Stealer was fine here but I could be wrong.

    P3p3:
Forest, Aerial Predation, Spawn of Rix Maadi, Selesnya Guildgate, Selesnya Sentry, Mind Rot, Cancel, Axebane Stag, Keening Apparition, Frostburn Weird, Cobblebrute, Rakdos Charm, Golgari Charm

Pick: Frostburn Weird. Oh hey, the reason to be Izzet! Didn't even think here, snap pick.

    P3p4:
Plains, Horncaller's Chant, Hussar Patrol, Golgari Guildgate, Rakdos Shred-Freak, Splatter Thug, Catacomb Slug, Vassal Soul, Ethereal Armor, Seek the Horizon, Guttersnipe, Rest in Peace.

Pick: Splatter Thug. Not really close. Thug is so good in combat. I considered Guttersnipe but I didn't have many spells and a 2/2 for 3 with an ok ability is worse than a 3/3 for 3 with first strike in an aggro deck in my opinion.

    P3p4:
Swamp, Inaction Injunction, Electrickery, Isperia's Skywatch, Tenement Crasher, Cobblebrute, Search Warrant, Giant Growth, Cancel, Rakdos Ringleader, Blistercoil Weird

Pick:Inaction Injunction. I don't have a ton of reach in my deck so I wanted this to push some damage through. Nothing else particularly exciting for me in this pack anyway.

    P3p5:
Forest, Vassal Soul, Bellows Lizard, Gore-House Chainwalker, Lobber Crew, Terrus Wurm, Grisly Salvage, Rakdos Cackler, Oak Street Innkeeper, Conjured Currency

Pick: Gore-House Chainwalker. Never sad to pick up premium 2-drops in an aggro deck.

    P3p6:
Swamp, Stealer of Secrets, Skull Rend, Isperia's Skywatch, Chronic Flooding, Downsize, Deviant Glee, Tenement Crasher, [CARD]Tavern Swindler
    [/CARD]
Pick: Stealer of Secrets. I considered Downsize since that card is actually quite good in certain matchups and I alrady had a million 3drops but I like stealer a lot especially since I have 2 Injunctions and Pursuit of Flight already. This was probably a mispick though since a 2/2 for 3 isn't actually very impressive in this format. I think Skywatch was a reasonable pick here too, I just don't like 6 drops as much in Izzet aggro.

    P3p7:
Island, Survey the Wreckage, Cobblebrute, Rakdos Shred-Freak, Search Warrant, Chemister's Trick, Rakdos Guildgate, Street Sweeper

Pick: Cobblebrute. Fine in Izzet imo. Really funny with Pursuit of Flight and can fairly likely get in via Injunctions.

    P3p8:
Swamp, Horncaller's Chant, Trained Caracal, Tenement Crasher, Dead Reveler, Stonefare Crocodile, Drainpipe Vermin,

Pick: Tenement Crasher. Jeez. No Annihilating Fires, or Explosive Impacts this draft. Bummer. I didn't even pass any.

Nothing exciting in the rest of this pack.

Well my pool is average. I'm not happy that I don't have any Fires for Explosive Impacts for reach/removal but oh well. Also unhappy that I missed a Dynacharge and didn't see Teleportal.

I also overvalued Stealer of Secrets this draft. Most times I justified it because of the pursuit of flight and Inaction Injunctions. But in reality Injunction will rarely get it through, and the philosophy shouldn't be: The more Stealers you have the better your Pursuit is, it should be the more Pursuits you have the better your Stealer is, if that makes sense.

    Deck:
I didn't get a Dynacharge, or Teleportal, but I'm really not sure if I should have just ran all 4 Goblin Rallies anyway. I think that it would have made my curve a little bit too high. I'm also not sure if I should have maindecked Mizzium Skin here. I think I probably should have taken out a Stealer for one of the 1-drop creatures, either Blistercoil or Nivmagus. While they are both quite bad and get overpowered by bigger creatures rather quickly, swinging with them on turn 2 with Civic Saber equipped is quite good and can put you far ahead if they don't have a play until three, and greatly punish stumbles. I also think a Tenement Crasher main would have been good. I would greatly appreciate input on the deck.

    Round 1:
Game 1 is rather boring. My opponent plays plains into Codex Shredder, and is stuck on 1 land for 3 turns after mulling to 6. I curve out with some dorks and Civic Saber and kill him on turn 5. At least I know the deck goldfishes fine.

Game 2: This game was quite different. It was a long grind of a game that lasted 40 minutes. It involved my opponent casting Supreme Verdict and then topdecking Codex Shredder with exactly 10 lands in play to sac it and bring back Supreme Verdict and cast it again. I ended up winning mostly off the back of Nivix Guildmage equipped with Civic Saber and Pursuit of Flight.

My opponent had a lot of good cards, and if it wasn't for the fact that he was running at least 1 Search Warrant, at least 1 Chronic Flooding 2 Blistercoil Weirds, and Codex Shredder(maybe not the worst in a control deck actually ?!) his deck would have been quite strong. Maybe he was just short playables because he audibled into blue white late. In short, I didn't feel very accomplished about winning.

I had to go do chores so I sadly didn't get to play R2 but I think my deck was good enough to at least reach the final.

Wait, he was putting Chronic Flooding on YOUR lands? I can't see how that worked out well for him, lol. Did he have psychic Spiral, that is actually a legit win con in those decks.

I want to play at this table where things that should never table are tabling.

Giant is about four times has hard to get as Stab Wound, and about 10 times as good in the deck that wants it. I will take a top tier Uncommon creature over a common piece of removal every time, and Stab Wound is not even that great at being removal.

I love playing against decks that have no creature base because they were just drafting removal and had to settle for Spawn of Rix Maadi, Batterhorn, Cobblebrute and Perilous Shadow. Play 2-drop, 3-drop, and then watch opponent kill the 3-drop while the 2-drop gets in for 10 damage. I just don't understand why these people are so nice to me, always making sure I win plenty of packs to draft with.

But wound also puts a clock on the opponent. I agree that taking, for example, Splatter Thug over Spree or Fire is fine (and actually correct), but wound is different.

As for what I would take from the pack, I have no clue. Stab wound costs 1 less mana and can be splashed more easily so it's probably correct over the giant. But the Giant is rarer to find. Tough call, I would honestly close my eyes and pick one at random.

    Sphere of Safety.

Is this card good in draft? In sealed?

I've seen it in play a grand total of once. I played against it today and it was quite annoying. I was playing Izzet aggro and my opponent used the sphere to stall until he played bombs like Horncaller's Chant.

It seems like it's really only good in certain circumstances, ie against aggro or if you have like 5 other good enchantments in your deck to make it better.

    Thoughts?

No Force of Wills, you say? Nope. And yet this deck will do absolutely broken things. Things like, "In response to your turn 2 Mystic, Gush, Brainstorm, Daze, Daze your Force of Will. On my turn, Forsaken City, Root Maze, Stasis, gg."

what i'm confused about is how you morphed a fathom seer on turn 2 and then bounced 4 lands to double daze and gush, and then play root maze and stasis on your turn.
ok, I didn't see the explorations at first but that is the goddest of god hands

Dredge is actually the combo deck I most want to see other than elves. You actually have a chance against them game 1. Though highly unlikely, you can use Volcanic Fallout to fog them. Still, this is more interaction we have than against any other combo deck sans elves.

    @Nantuko.

Well, assuming that LoL's decklist above is intended to have Fireblast x 4 (instead of Volcanic Fallout x 8) ...it's very close to the same. Anyway... this is what I've been playing and seems to be playing well. Altho, I'm still tweeking it as my Sulfuric Vortex playset should arrive tomorrow...

    Goblin Guide x 4
    Vexing Devil x 4
    Ball Lightning x 3
    Grim Lavamancer x 3

    Chain Lightning x 4
    Fireblast x 4
    Lava Spike x 4
    Lightning Bolt x 4
    Price of Progress x 2
    Rift Bolt x 4
    Volcanic Fallout x 4

    Mountain x 12
    fetches x 8

Hey guys I played RDW a the SCG Open the other day so i figured I'd write a quick report here. I was very happy with the list except for the fact that I couldn't get access to Ensnaring Bridges which would have been extremely helpful considering I got swept by Omniscience and Reanimator.

    Here's the list I played

    Round 1
    Mirror - ugh

G1- She wins off double Keldon while I have Flamebreak in hand.
G2 - I conserve my life total as much as possible. I chump block a Keldon with a Guide at some point then bolt her out.
G3 - I lose in a really dumb way. She's at 3 and I have Rift Bolt suspended. I play a Scalding Tarn and she casts Price of Progress while I'm at 5, putting me to 4. She then Fireblasts me. She didn't have anything else so playing the Tarn actually lost me the game. sigh Slant
I boarded out Flamebreaks for Pithing Needle to name Lavamancer.

    Round 2
    BUG Tempo
G1 - I blow him out after I Volcanic Fallout his board of Delver and Deathrite Shaman and he tries to Force it. lol Rolleyes
G2 - I have a one land hand but this matchup is so easy b/c they can't feasibly race you, I didn't see any Goyfs in the list so I figured I was safe. He ends up playing 2 Bobs and losing. I just sat there and didn't point any burn at his face to make him feel safe. I red blasted a Delver at some point. He eventually Darkblasted his own Bob but the other one was still alive and killed him.

I boarded out like 1 Flamebreak for a Red Blast.

    Round 3
BUG Control - YAY UNLOSABLE MATCHUP!!! :D:D:D

G1 - I get him low with Guide and 2 Hellsparks. He lands a Jace but it's too late and I burn him out.
G2 - He plays a standstill with 2 Mishra's Factory out. I just wait until I'm dead on board to the Factories next turn. EOT I bolt him as my only instant. He draws 3 up to 9 and has to discard 2. On my turn I go Spike, Spike, Chain, Guide, Fireblast and he died.

Boarding is not needed in this matchup but I boarded out like 1 Flamebreak for a needle to name Factory since that his is only reasonable way to race me.

    Round 4
    Omniscience
G1 - Turn 3 Show and Tell, Omniscince, cast Emrakul + Griselbrand. Blowout.
G2 - I get TRIPLE Guide and get him to 6 on my turn 3 but he goes off on his turn 3. At least the round only took 5 minutes.

If I had Ensnaring Bridge like I'm supposed to I could have done something here. This is one of the unfortunate downsides of playing burn, Combo decks exist.

    Round 5
    Lands
G1 - He gets the Life from the Loam + Zuran Orb + Glacial Chasm lock going. I'm tempted to concede but I figure if I draw Price I can force him to sac all his lands and maybe do something. I do the draw the Price but he gains so much life there's no way I can win. I must have dealt over 30 damage this game.
G2 - He plays Chalice of the Void for 1 and then for 2 next turn. I play Blood Moon. His only out is to draw Zuran Orb, even if he draws Oblivion Stone I have another Moon in hand. He doesn't get there and I kill him with Fireblast and Flamebreaks.
G3 He plays Zuran Orb and I Smash to Smithereens it. Eventually I kill him. He had a slow start here w/out any Exploration effect.

I boarded out all my creatures b/c they are horrendous against 4x Maze of Ith.dec and brought in everything to keep him off the Chasm lock.

    Round 6
    RUG Delver
G1- I get turn 1 Guide to resolve on the draw and just win the race.
    G2 - I die to double Goyf.
    G3 - Repeat of G2

Despite losing, I actually felt favored in this. I did everything right, playing around Daze, and only using a single untapped land to suspend Rift Bolt. It's just when they get double Goyf when it's hard. I didn't board, but I should have boarded out Flamebreaks for Tormod's since 3 mana spells are clunky at best against them. Even so, Tormod's is wayyy worse than Relic of Progenitus against them since my grave still buffs goyfs. Flamebreak can kill Nimble Mongoose and unflipped delvers but even so it doesn't matter that much. They are so threat light that racing them most of the time isn't hard.

    Round 7
    Reanimator
G1 - He show and tells in Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite killing my Guide. 2 Turns later Iona naming red comes out.
G2 He gets Griselbrand out while at 11 life and I have 3 bolts in hand. I could have tried to triple bolt Gris but that was most likely going to lose me the game just as if he gained 7 life.

Again, frustrating that I didn't have the Bridges.

I was pretty upset that I didn't get to play against any creature decks all day. I saw a good number of combo elves, Goblins, and maverick players but just never got to play against them. Can't do anything about it though. I had fun at my first SCG Open and would definitely play RDW again. It was fun, has great matchups that I just didn't see, and makes some people quite annoyed when they lose to it. Cool

The best way to beat Valakut is going to be the same way you beat Tron, presumably. Hand disruption followed by aggro and/or Liliana.

Hey guys what is everyone thinking about the new spoiled Izzet cards? Goblin Electromancer, a creature for UR that makes your instants and sorcs cost 1 less looks really awesome, but I don't like that it's a creature. Perhaps it can be in the SB for when they board out all their removal?

Izzet Charm looks absurd, UR instant with 3 modes, Spell Pierce, Faithless Looting, or Shock. That is insane utility!

On Defense Grid. Has anyone had success with this card. I completely forgot about it, but it looks amazing against our worst matchups.

I dont know. Personally, I still love SFMystic, just because I dont like waiting to draw a Jitte the regular way. Plus, I dont see whats wrong in using the occasional other weapon.

A midrange finisher seems like a good idea. I kidan like Sigarda and Baneslayer Angel. Sigarda can be GSZenithed for so thats a plus, and so is hexproof/flying. Evasion and untouchability is pretty sweet.

Stick with Thrun. He can reasonably be hardcasted since he is easier on the colors and costs 1 less. He's just as hard to deal with too. Sure, he does less to Emrakul, but the way to deal with Emrakul decks is to attack them before Emrakul sees play or use Karakas.
