    *facepalm*

We never should have played Tarmogoyf in Elves. The synergy was just....just...gone!

But seriously, there's a reason every successful list post-rotation has used Knight of Meadowgrain.

Knight of Meadowgrain isn't that pivotal to the deck, and looking at all the merfolk decks that top 8'd states that are available on starcity, only 3 ran knight of meadowgrain.

Also someone a few pages back asked what I board out sages dousing against. I board it out against red, kithkin, and elf decks. Pretty much all the aggro decks.

Yes 3 sages dousing is all you need, they even get boarded out a lot actually.

Hey Skyline, you beat me in round 2. I was the Faeries player. I saw you in T8. Congrats. I liked your deck, it was very fast and hard to keep up with.

How does Merfolk deal with all the board sweepers in std? It seems like everyone has either Infest, Firespout, or Wrath of God either md or in the boards and most fish decks seem to run 8 or less counters. It just seems that you have smaller guys than Kithkin and are more susceptible to the cards that are good against Kithkin.

Just a non-Fish player being curious.

Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it. Grin

I just tend not to overextend unless I can get the read on the opponent not having a board sweeper, I have a counterspell or 2, or I have reveillark in hand/play to protect from my overcommitment. If they're playing a deck with sweepers, usually 2 creatures is enough pressure to put on them, especially if you have a manland or two on board.

The 1 exception to this is the faeries matchup. If they happen to get a bitterblossom, then sometimes you're only option is to overextend and just hope they don't have it.

No need to apologize, there's nothing to feel sorry about. People in the champs results thread thought the same thing. I just thought people in the actual merfolk thread would be more interested to hear what was right.

Not like the deck was my list anyways, I got it from Cedric. I'm sure lsv's list was derived from the one that Cedric started building his on, because it's very similiar.

Cedric's list was not the same as lsv's, ced's list was closer to the one I played (Justin George from ohio) aside from 2 ponders, his deck had 2 extra wake thrashers. I would have played his list had I found 2 more wake thrashers, but the 2 ponders proved their worth.

    Good match-ups:

    -everything but project X

    Bad match-ups

    -Project X

Really though, Flare beats gruul, dstorm, dralnu, angelfire, and even korlash is a good match-up (you out persecute them andf your persecutes are stronger). Also some disagree with me, but in my testing (I've done a 15 game set) against dredge I went 9-6 pre-board and 1you have leylines post-board.

Vs Pickles I bring in the 4th persecute (obviously), and 2 nightmare void for my faith's fetters. I have no idea why xbankx wastes 3 sideboard slots on horrible extirpate (that card sucks so bad).

Hi this is Justin George, I personally don't think Project X is a bad matchup, at least not with the sb I was running. I crushed Project X multiple times at regionals, and also beat it in the top 8. By boarding in 3 mortify, 2 extirpate for 2 chronicler, 1 persecute, 2 hussar, it made the matchup really easy. The matchup I personally fear is angelfire, not because it's a really bad matchup, it's that boom/bust can be a problem if my start doesn't include enough signets. If they don't even play boom/bust, well then the matchup is very easy.

I also have not played against, or tested against pickles, because it is nearly a dead deck around here. On paper it seems like a bad matchup, but I have no clue whatsoever. :p

Heh no I won ohio valley, the mono green guy who he played was one of my teammates. He was 5-1-1 at one point and in good position to top 8, but ended up losing his last two matches :p

Kashmyr, they weren't going to draw or have one person concede to another, the split was just so the winner and loser would get the same amount of packs. They still were going to play out the match for the spot. Pretty sure the other 3 top 8 matches decided to do it this way. :p

It could also be because Prize Splitting in the one round of top eight that you play would be considered Bribery.

No the judges were sitting right there to make sure there was no bribery. It was just that both players would get equal prize, and it would not effect the outcome of the match. He got greedy and wanted it all. :p

For the second year in a row, the store I play at put someone in the top 8 (2 last year, 1 this year). He played Counterpost at Ohio Valley. Still waiting word if he qualified or not.

A whole bunch of other people from that store were also one win away from top 8ing as well - including a girl who went 7-2 and was beating 1900+ rated people =), and a guy who has had a lot of trouble with the metagame as of late.

He lost in the top 8. The top 4 slots from ohio valley all went to the big jg and the kids table modo clan, including me who got the plaque playing wafo-tapa. The other 3 slots went to 2 magnivore decks, and fungus fire. Apparently your friend playing counterpost didn't want to prize split because he thought magnivore was a good matchup for him...

The thing about English is that it wins with one swing. With the Shapechanger and the Phage. I don't really see that happening here?

He gets the wurm and the carrion howler into the grave at the same time. Attacks with doppelganger, remove carrion howler. Puts pumps from the carrion howler on the stack, then removes the wurm still in response to the pumps. Pumps resolve, and you've got yourself a doppelganger capable of dealing 20 in one hit. I like the premise for the deck, seems a little fragile though.
