I may not have been the most active or visible member on this site, but I made so many friends with people and bonded over a very many things. Not just Magic, but art. I am incredibly saddened by the fact that I wasn't able to participate in the last Christmas Card Exchange. :'( First time in roughly 8 years. I'm going to miss coming to this site just to read about Magic.
Thank you all, from the beginning of the exodus, all the way until now.
I look forward to whatever comes next.

Mar 16, 2018Slavan K. Guiser posted a message on All Sets Are Good: Saviors of KamigawaKaburi,Posted in: Articles
I just saw this article pop up and missed the one for Prophecy, which I promptly went back and read. It's really awesome to see someone taking the time to do this for some of the much-maligned sets that have contributed to building this great game. Wizards has always made the game fun and fantastic, even if the cards aren't always super powerful.
Have to honest, I rarely read articles on this site anymore. It's good to see something unique come along. Give me more!
As for cards from Saviors that I love, there's two that are pretty well EDH staples for me. First, if I'm running blue, Eternal Dominion is in there. I like pairing it up with Uyo, Silent Prophet. Casting 3+ copies of Eternal Dominion on every upkeep to raid your opponent's decks is fun, but not a good way to make friends. Second, there's Choice of Damnations. It's one of the meanest cards to play. You almost always come out on top, no matter what they make. At the pre-release, many people often did not read the card closely, choosing one as the number. I can assure you, they didn't lose one life, but I got some very angry concessions after a judge clarified the card. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
Hi Kank! I just got over the hivascabiebolitis in my household. Gah. Steroids and dual course antibiotics.
For explanation, I did the first and third sets, my wife did the second set. My son, who usually joins in, declined this year 'cause he didn't feel up to it. However, I hope the cards are useful for you! If nothing else, those tri-lands should be good for some EDH.
Also, thank you, Jay, for being willing to organize this. I'm sure it's a ton of work, but it's awesomely worthwhile for those of us who love it.
Thank you to the mysterious benefactor! Mine haven't come quite yet, but I'm excited for them this week. I LURV getting these in the mail!
Edit: Also, I should state that I posted here before I saw your post begging me to return in the MTGS Holiday Exchange thread. I've been sick and bored as hell, so I'm checking in.
@Cold: Yeah, the Eastern US is pretty wussy, honestly. We regularly get below 0 and not have anything ever get cancelled. We get much worse wind chill than a lot of the Midwest as well. :/ Minnesota is about the same as here. I mean, -50 is decently common. I still go to work.
@Amadi: Welcome to the clan officially. Well, once the bio kicks in. You can be part of the community.
@Lazer: Good luck looking for a singer!
@WG: I love the final result. Looks very, very nice.
@Vliger: What does Siri say the Fox says?
@Stardust: Woo! Telescope.
@EDH: Who doesn't love some good EDH?
@PG: You only play EDH? Also....you have giant sized cards? Like the old arena ones? Do you have a LOT of extras? I've been trying to collect them so I can make an EDH deck from them.......I'd love to talk about trading if you have them.
@Moss: I think this game would be really awesome to play. I wonder if we could make it work. I agree that something needs to be done to make it a little more inclusive. I'll have to think about what could maybe make it a little more so.
@Lazer: Ooof. Wisdom teeth removal can suck. I hope for your sake you don't get dry socket. It sucks. Badly. I had to have 8 teeth removed because I got in too many for my jaw size and had it in 5 of them. Listen to what the doctors say and get in PLENTY of liquid. If not, it'll hurt for quite a while. It took nearly 3 months for mine to heal fully. :/
@PG: DQ is right. I swear you almost always look at the set and say it's crap. However, Born of the Gods does not seem to be the overwhelming powerhouse we first expect. I think there's gonna be plenty of sleepers and it'll shake up the format a bit. Not a ton, mind you, but some. Additionally, do you look only at Standard playability or other formats? I frankly find the set will really make limited interesting! The Inspired ability really increases the tension of it all...do I attack and get something on untap? Do I save a creature with it? How far do I go building draft around it? I'm excited for BotG.
@Lazer: Is a Horde deck fun? I've never played one, but it seems pretty fun for an evening. Can you post a list of yours?
@Karaoke: Huzzah! Tiara! Rock it!
@Other things: So, part of what I wanted to do with my New Years' Resolutions is to try and be more creative in general. One of my first projects was to write a love letter to my wife. I've written the poem on my computer and am currently transcribing it by hand onto some sheets of paper. I'm working on making it illuminated, so I'm taking a lot of care with the penmanship. I figured that love letters aren't things done anymore, but I want to do something ridiculously out of the blue for her. Her world's been turned upside down this week, she found out she's losing her job in two months (after working there for nearly 10 years).
@Wheat: Vectorizing .jpegs is a freakin' pain in the bottom! I heartily applaud your work. It does look great! It's so time consuming.
@Lazer: What does it haves in its pocketses for Slavan?

@Kank::rolleyes: Ouch.
@Cooking: I'm pretty darn good at turning ingredients into edibles. I can follow a recipe and turn out my own. I'm comfortable experimenting with various styles. In fact, I spent most of the summer perfecting my cooking with a tajine. Moroccan and Arabic cuisine for the summer. It makes my mouth water greatly. I should make some up. I'm also versed in German, Italian, French, and some Greek, Chinese, and Japanese. I've learned a little bit of soul cooking and how to barbecue correctly. I'm pretty well varied and love learning more about it.
@Pokemon: Pika p? That's totally cute, btw. PG, can you scan a picture of it?
@Boss Battles: Nah, it's better to use the best stuff early for mobs and then have the boss fight feel drawn out and tough. GUNDAMMIT, PG!
@Kill la Kill: This look awesome and ridiculous. Like completely and utterly over the top. It also has the words Gurren Lagann attached to it. I rather enjoyed Gurren Lagann.
@Kank: I read the cheese story. I could only think that there was a line in there talking about how serious the cops were taking it. Now only if the rest of us would. And seriously, who puts cheese on a hotdog anyway?
Foil Sword of Light and Shadow: Cracked this baby at my very first pre-release. It was Darksteel and my second tournament ever. The kicker? Mark Zug was there signing cards. That thing helped me get 4-1 and cement my love of this game. Sentimental doesn't even begin to cover it.
Judge Promo Balance: My then-girlfriend bought this for me at our first GP together. It was for my Birthday. We've have gone on to more GP's and she's my wife now. Yes, she plays. If only I could get her to stop rofl-stomping me with her Teferi EDH deck.....
Foil Akroma, Angel of Wrath: You know that one card you have that you used to smash face all the time, your friends were INCREDIBLY jealous of, and just made life that much better for you because you pulled it when you had a few bucks left before payday and were having a really, really bad day? Yeah, that's this one. She may not be worth as much as back in the day, but she's still shiny and she still feels good to lay on the battlefield and watch opponents 'oooo' at the pretty.
However, if I had to stick with only one......probably the Akroma. Not sure why. She just is.
@Amadi: We also talk about anime, music, and even Magic: the Gathering sometimes. We are pretty awesome as a clan. Plus, you're pretty much guaranteed clan of the year.
@Lazer: I agree with Amadi. Start looking and do what you can. There's no time like the present. Just put word out and if someone really wants to, they'll make time for it. Seriously, yeah, you'll have to put stuff off every once in a while for classes and life, but something is better than nothing.
@Drama: I don't believe in drama. I just ignore it and get stuff done. It's not quite a hassle when you don't buy into it. But yeah, Salvation wouldn't be quite right without some drama.
@Hugs: I don't hug. Anyone. Ever.
@Animes: I've been watching B Gata H Kei. It's....interesting. And has the worst pervert in the world.....like not the grossest, but the most failtastic. She's incredible.
@DQ: Why don't you finish your stories?
@Amadi: Soul Market's been dead forever. I still like to keep my trophies from my hard work, though.
@Amadi: Welcome back. It has been a long time.
@Geek Fandoms: Well, anime, figure collecting (I just got my 7-11 RX-78 Gundam), Star Wars, and roleplaying. And Magic: the Gathering of course.
@Pat: Hmmmmmm.....Metal? Use some sheet metal or some aluminum and burnish it. It's beautiful and schnazzy with just a little work. You can make it look all 15th/16th century with it. Rivets, woodwork, roughness. Make an awesome chest, sans router. Hew some logs, sand the insides, hinges. Bam.
@Yomako: Is there a point in time where you don't give hugs? Or do you even sleep hug?
@Blank shirt: I'd probably go with the ever popular rendition of "I visited _____ and all I got was a lousy T-shirt" with the name of the function or event I'd be attending. Either that or I'd try and draw something ridiculously awesome (more than likely kinda awesome).
