Heading to GP Pittsburgh this weekend and I'm having a few doubts about my list. I was 26-4 in 30 matches and have gone 1-7 in the past few days. I'm not sure if its my list or just a run of luck. My current list is
I was wondering how you guys feel about Huntmaster of the Fells over the 2nd Cryptic Command? It feels like the weakest card in the deck now that Dispels are everywhere. I haven't been able to test it enough and would like to hear the opinion of someone who has played it.
I'm currently running 2 Thragtusk and 1 Keranos in my sideboard. Would you recommend 1 Sarkhan, 1 Thragtusk, and 1 Keranos or just keeping the 3 and finding a 4th slot for Sarkhan? I haven't been able to try a list with Sarkhan yet.
After a few nights grinding online the only matchup I really feel weak against is Jund. How do you guys feel about Obstinate Baloth over the 2 Thragtusk to combat Liliana? With alot of Rx aggro decks running around the 4 toughness could be very useful.
After throwing a few versions through MTGO I can't settle on a complete 75 for GP Pittsburgh. I'm looking for some of your opinions on
- 22 or 23 lands?
- Going big on the combo (9-10 pieces) or go more tempo (8-9 pieces)
- Dismember and Roast or just 2 Roast?
- Finally, what do your sideboards look like?
This deck is definitely one of the most powerful decks I've played with but I'm not sure if I'm making it better or worse tweaking without enough games to test.
My meta is alot control/burn
What would you play guys?
Personally I prefer having access to Clique. It fits well in the tempo strategy and is disruption for the combo strategy. If Junk sees a resurgence (or any major Lingering Souls decks) I would cut clique. For now I think the 3/1 body is good enough.
I think I'll finish foiling out but will probably work on foiling the UR twin deck first (foil Goyfs would be nice though). I think my next pick ups will be in this order:
-Expedition Shocks
-Foil Snapcaster
- promo Remand, Serum Visions, and Cryptic
- rest of UR (Electrolyze, Deceiver, etc.)
- Consider getting Goyfs down the road
When all is said and done I want the whole thing foil except the 4 Beta Lightning Bolt unless I can someday get Judge Promos 😩
What started as UR Twin built specifically for GP Pittsburgh quickly got out of hand. This is the prettiest deck I have ever built and I hope to finish foiling it within the next few months.
As long as your cards are sleeved you should be fine. The only way I could see anyone complaining is if certain cards are noticeably warped from the foiling.
Best:
By straight value investing in Zen Fetchlands at the beginning of modern for less than $10 ea.
By comparative value I got 20 promo phyrexian metamorph promos for $1 ea when they were $5, the store is rather shady and told me he'd sell the promos so I bought them all. They went up a little more but an instant 400% profit was nice.
My 2 boxes of MMA 2015 was a pretty good investment. Box 1 was terrible but box 2 had a foil and a regular goyf, Elesh Norn, Noble Hierarch, Fulminator, Spellskite, Spliter twin, and Wilt-leaf liege.
Worst:
95% of the sealed product I've opened. I have terrible luck when it comes to cracking packs.
This is awesome, congratulations. I think that is basically the dream scenario for opening one of these boxes. I shied away from MM2015 after a lackluster MM box in 2013 where I basically broke even (meaning I would have been better off just buying singles I wanted). If the commons and uncommons had more value in MM2015 I may have jumped on a box, but alas. All I can say is that it is awesome to see stories like this, I love it when people get lucky with packs and boxes.
On a related note, I bought a Khans Holiday Gift Box yesterday that was marked down at Walmart to $15 (figured the pack value alone is worth more retail wise) and I needed the box for storage and organization. First pack I opened a Polluted Delta and paid for the whole thing. Good times were had.
The best part is I planned to cancel my preorders (had 2 boxes ordered) but the store talked me out of it by giving me a partial refund. I told them I wasn't as interested in the set as I initially was and the prices had really dropped for boxes. They looked up prices and refunded me $20 on each of them. I'm glad the 2nd box turned out so good because I would be disgusted with the contents of the first. I got 1 Clique, 1 Karn, 2 Daybreak, and a bunch of junk. The second one apparently had the good stuff that was supposed to be separated across the 2 boxes
You probably should and then remember that I advised you to do so when you win the power ball. I drafted last night and managed to pull a goyf, so maybe we should collaborate numbers for the ticket together.
I do have a question for you fine gents and I'm sure this should be in trade evaluation thread, but would you trade said tarmogoyf and a played condition Liliana of the Veil for a box of MM15?
Personally I wouldn't. MMA is a gamble and sometimes you get lucky but I imagine most times you end up in the red.
So MMA finally brought me back to MTGS. I've never had luck opening packs but last night I opened a foil and a regular goyf from the same box. Not many of my friends play magic so you guys are the only ones who will care
Thats what I figured but wouldn't it be easier to just cast Emrakul? The only situation I can see where you wouldn't want to is when they have Ensnaring Bridge or can swing back for lethal, neither of which are super common.
Being new to Omnitell (Playing the Cunning Wish version) can someone explain the Release the Ants in the sideboard? I know how it works generally but without Enter the Infinite how do you reliably set it up? Is it really as simple as setting up with Ponder/Preordain? I feel like you could just dig for the high cmc spell you need in that situation.
From what I understand some people found on the MTGO Beta that Summer Bloom and Splinter Twin were both banned so they rushed the article out. The announcement wasn't supposed to be until Monday.
Here is a link to PVDDR discussing it a few hours before the announcement.

Also Pyroclasm or Anger of the Gods for a SB boardwipe?

I feel like I should buy a lottery ticket
