Hi all, now that the full set has released, are there any cards you intend to preorder, for use or for speculation? I'm really only feeling a few cards. Hollow One and the Sarcophagus artifact. I was originally also interested in the Ramunap excavator, but then I discovered it's also a draft weekend promo and I think it shouldn't be too hard to get enough copies.
I was such a great Kaladesh drafter but ever since Amonkhet came out, I have just felt 'off'. I've been practicing and practicing and finally I realized that I was really good at reading the draft field with colorless cards abound, but I've really been struggling to understand what works, what's good, and draft signals with Amonkhet. This draft I actually started off in blue/red, then white red, then went white blue. By pack 2 when I opened Vizier, and was passed two angler drake, I knew I should go U, and then I decided I'd try Embalm, as white seemed to also be open. This is my first 3-0 of the Amonkhet drafts.
I'm worried that my strategy is less "understand the field and build the best combination possible" and more "open bombs people can't deal with". This deck helped alleviate that, as I netted massive card advantage with the interaction of devoted crop mate with all the 2-drops. The removal was just enough to get me there, and I squeaked by GR, GW, and RB. They were all ridiculously hard games that really challenged me, which is exactly what I need.
so I finally bit the bullet. out with the midrange, in with the aggro. I've been liking the look of RB aggro since a few weeks ago and finally made the switch to the deck because I got sick of losing to UW.
Crazy - My main deck is EXACTLY the same as yours; however my sideboard is 2 kalitas, 3 Chandra, 3 transgress, 1 key, 1 incendiary flow, 4 Weaver of Lightning, and 1 Skysovereign. I made day 2 of GP Denver.
Alright. I've been playing with a list a friend made for a few days now, and I'm pretty impressed with it. It's a bit swingy sometimes, but I feel like it can power through aggro and midrange thoroughly. Here's what we've done with the deck so far:
To be honest, the harnessed lightning and ceremonious rejection in the side have been irrelevant. And I'm often finding myself taking out Cathartic Reunion and one Emrakul post-sideboard. But I have a phenomenal win ratio with the deck. I'm crushing 2 man standard online, and looking forward to taking it elsewhere.
How do you guys feel about Smuggler's Copter as a good turn 2 play to be crewed by, say, Mausoleum Wanderer and adjust our hand a bit? I think it's a great card to pair with Always Watching too, since you get to choose if you draw-discard when you attack and or block.
I have the opposite question. How does a spirit deck deal with Smuggler's Copter?
You're only running 4 artifacts to power up unlicensed disintegration. I mean, it's probably easier to cast murder for 1BR than it is 1BB, but if you want to get that 3 damage you're going to need more artifacts.
This can do some fun things like turn 2collective brutality, discarding Drownyard temple to make them discard a card and give a creature -2/-2. accelerate turn 3 into a turn 4 reality smasher. Or the good old "turn 3 matter Reshaper turn 4 emerge distended Mindbender.
I was originally going with Whispers of Emrakul main which is why I have Terrarion, Sinister Concoction, and evolving wilds. But I put whispers in the side and still like the power of the deck. I use sea gate wreckage and asylum visitor for card drawing, and once my opponent's hand is empty I start going with Geier reach sanitarium for filtering. My deck has a decent early game strategy, a solid mid game, and staying power.
I've been a Guay fan since I got into the game 15+ years ago. The implied detail (rather than detail explicitly painted), the gorgeous girls/dryads/angels/nature, and the use of bright colours (especially lots of green) turned me into an instant fan even though I've never cared much for fine art before.
When you were dropped from Magic I lead a campaign to get you reinstated, primarily through this community (I like to imagine it had some kind of impact!) We exchanged some emails back then. Persecute Artist is an emotionally-charged bit of history, to me! And I'm very upset at not having seen any new art of yours on a Magic card in years now. Stream of Unconsciousness and Dawnglow Infusion appear to be some of the most "recent"...
Your gallery work since then appears very much like a lot of your Magic artwork, but with more nipples, excellent! The book looks amazing. I never buy myself anything nowadays, but it's the first thing I've wanted for myself in years. And of course, I want to donate to help your project be a success. When I looked into the process to do so, a couple issues come to mind:
- no PayPal / money order option (not everybody has a Visa/Mastercard)
- account signup and verification not only at Kickstarter but also at Amazon.com (where the "privacy" policy is shall we say... not ideal)
I'm working on getting around those issues, so hopefully you'll see my name as a Backer soon. Either way, I'm linking friends to the Kickstarter page, promoting it on social media, and I wish you nothing but the best Rebecca!
EDIT: Success. And I was happy to see that my pledge pushed the funding total over 70,000 - congrats!
I remember this. I was incredibly upset about you (Rebecca) getting removed from magic. I was a part of this as well and figured out Jeremy Cranford's (the art director at the time) desk line. I posted it here and we got a lot of people to call and leave him voicemail. I wish it would have been more successful because I love your art and I think Magic is missing a huge part of its identity without you.
I had a colossally unfun time both days. The first day I went 2-0-2. It was alright. The games in which we drew were boring flerp derp mucked up board states. Today, I went 1-2 and the only reason I had a win was because of a bye. I had decent cards but I had maybe two removal spells in my deck? Removal is insanely underrepresented and it enables people to just enchant the living hell out of a single creature and turn it into an unstoppable menace that can't be dealt with. It was completely and totally unfun to me. I hope drafting and constructed are different.

The date indicates that it would already have been created by this time and Maro is notorious for leaving hints all over his blog.
