I agree, Evincar. Everyone who likes standup at all shoud watch Dave Cahpelle's "Killin' them Softly". Hilarious.

I never watchedChris Rock's show, but did anyone ever watch Mr. Show? That was... underrated, to say the least. David Cross is a funny, funny, man.

He's not a bad man, but I agree with the Battle-Mad Ronin comparison. He's a weenie that you don't block. He's something that, at best, you can use to force a bad trade.

Sligh needs creatures that are gonna get damage through to the opponent in the early game, but they got better one drops than this guy. He'll never get to do more than 1 point to your opponent without help.

    03. Shannon Tweed (90's only) - I put her as a B Movie, because that's all she did in the 90's. There is one, with some weird thing in a jar and controls her mind and makes her "do crazy things".

Don't remember that one. But did anyone see "Electra"? Not the recent pile starring Jeniffer Garner, but the pile from the 90s starring Shannon Tweed. Anyway, I saw it a long time ago, and it involved a wheelchair-bound villain named "Roach" whose wheelchair had flamethrowers and machine guns, Some kind of super-soldier serum that involved injectind Nitroglycerin into people's hearts, and every character randomly transforming into vampires and ripping each other apart in the end for no readily apparent reason.

    Classic moments include:
    - The protagonist taking the Nitro injection and proceeding to body-check a van, which then flies off the road.
    - The villains bugging the protagonist's home with "surveillance cameras", each of which is the size of a large cat. These were cunningly hidden behind pictures and other things on the mantlepiece.
    - Shannon Tweed in the obligatory bathtub scene. Let's not forget why she was in the movie.

Yeah. Shannon Tweed must have been in some of the best bad movies ever.

Other games that stood out were; F.E.A.R. (anyone who liked Doom3 should check this out), Destroy All Humans, Prince of Persia 3 (No in-game stuff yet from the looks of it, but it seems pretty cool. Better not be as buggy as Warrior Within), Age of Empires 3, Battlefield 2, Panzer Elite Force, Quake Wars, Hulk: Path of Destruction... And probably lots that I forgot about

Sorry, poor organization on my part. This last section is not an XBOX section, it's for cross-platform titles and PC titles.

    @non_the_road

I'm a big console gamer. I have been most of my life, and now I have to be; it's my business, I'm a game designer. I remeber the high and low points of just about every system I made a serious commitment to. But this last generation of hardware has, in my opinion, been a very good one. People talk about their old-school games like nothing that comes out anymore is good.

Anyone played Psychonauts? God of War? Resident Evil 4? Halo 2? These are all excellent games in their own right, and they're among a much larger list of games that I would be confident in recommending to ANYONE who truly has an unbiased enjoyment for video games.

I bought an XBOX, a Gamecube, and a PS2 because I wanted to see what exclusive titles each system had to offer, so as not to limit myself to any one of those systems. And I don't regret buying any one of them, just as I feel I won't regret buying a Revolution, an XBOX 360, and a PS3. I want to know as much about the systems as possible, to know what they'll be capable of, to know waht to expect, and to heighten my anticipation.

This is why I launch into an examination of where all these companies are at; because I want to know where they're headed.

Well, I can say to you that the PS3 is almost without a doubt going to be able to produce the best graphics and most processing power out of the three by a longshot. Trust me, I saw Sony's E3 video, and came out at first only semi-impressed, as I thought the graphics being displayed might have been CGI-scenes, or mock-ups, or something of the like. But then I found out that everything in that video was In-Game Graphics. That just blew me away. I mean, sure, the XBOX 360's games were a definite, noticeable step up from the current generation, but the PS3's in-game graphics look like CGI.

I'll throw together a list of stuff that was good and bad at all the hardware developpers' booths:

    Nintendo (Good)
Strong showing for the Gamecube and the DS. Playable version of the new Zelda game (line was three hours long though, so I didn't get a chance to play). Excellent presentation overall, and alot of good games seem to be on the horizon for Nintendo.

    Nintendo (Bad)
No Revolution. I understand the timing and all, but it would have been nice of them to at least show something at E3. I have been looking forward to hearing about the mysterious controllers, full backward-compatability, what type of media it's capable of playing, and what the frickin thing looks like.

    Nintendo (Games)
Advance Wars DS, Battalion Wars, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Mario Kart DS, Castlevania DS (forgot the name), Killer 7.

    Sony (Good)
Lots of cool-looking titles coming out for the PS2. Excellent presentation on the PS3. Really big booth area, with lots of stuff showcased. Areas where you could sit down and play the PSP.

    Sony (Bad)
PSP games, on the whole, made a lackluster showing compared to the DS stuff. There were a few cool titles, but there was no hype around any of the PSP stuff, nothing to draw people in. Alot of their floor space was underused and largely vacant, especially compared with the Nintendo booth.

    Sony (Games)
Final Fantasy 12, Dirge of Cerberus, New Castlevania for PS2 (forgot the name), Shadow of the Colossus, Soul Calibur 3, Death Jr.

    Microsoft (Good)
XBOX 360 looks very cool, and seems to have quite a few decent games approaching a finished state. Even though the current XBOX doesn't seem to have as many exclusive titles on the horizon for it as the other two, it's multiplatform titles are consistently better than those of the other two systems.

    Microsoft (Bad)
Their booth and gaming area was big and spread out, but talk about game hogs! I played plenty of games at the Sony and Nintendo booths, but no one was moving from the MS games, and the floor guys weren't helping create any flow-through, unlike at the Nintendo and Sony booths. Also, like I said, not alot of good-looking exclusive games heading to the XBOX.

    Microsoft (Games)
Full Auto, Starcraft: Ghost, Ghost Recon 3, and a few other XBOX360 titles I didn't catch the names of.

And probably lots that I forgot about.

If anyone has any questions about what I saw down there, feel free to ask away.

Kind of like online gaming? And besides, name one thing that PS2 or Xbox did before anyone else that wasn't a gimmick. One. That's all I ask. It's the only way to substantiate your argument.

You mean like, oh say.... a HARD DRIVE???? Why does everyone forget about this? If you don't own an XBOX, you have no idea what you're missing by never, ever having to worry about buying a memory card. Nintendo can come up with touch screens and styluses out the wazoo while having their fanboys lick their boots and call them kings of the universe (never mind the fact that you practically need 3 hands to make the DS comfortable), but they ignore the fact that, first time out of the gate, Microsoft includes something that's both innovative and -God forbid- USEFUL!

Sorry for quoting an old post, but that one threw me into rant mode.

Well, having just gotten back from E3 myself, I have skimmed these boards. Honestly, nearly everything of consequence that was revealed at the show has been covered in some detail. Big disappointment from Nintendo in not having anything on the Revolution (They're just waiting for the TGS, but it's still annoying).

Microsoft, however, did not disappoint. There was a long promotional video on the XBOX 360, most of which focused on the potential of the system as more than just a gaming platform. Kudos to Microsoft for expanding its already succesful XBOX Live service with more features and capability than before. Something else that really stood out about their system was the interface ideas. Basically, they want it to be able to interface with most devices a PC can interface with. they had video of it displaying pictures off a digital camera and transferring MP3s with no PC to intermediate, which is pretty slick. They had a few games up as well, and while none were totally finished, they all looked very nice, and seem to have unusually high quality for first-generation stuff.

Now on to the grandaddy, the PS3. OK, it has a dumb controller (currently), OK, the bulge through the middle is odd-looking and makes people compare it to a George Foreman Grill (a comparison that still eludes me). The simple, unavoidable fact of the matter is that it's a powerhouse. It is so much more powerful than the other two systems, it's almost frightening. Its Cell Processor technology may as yet be unproven, but from the video I saw of the games in development, they seem to be able to back up every claim about its potential. Make no mistake about it. In terms of pure power, this is a complete and total no-contest. But the PS2 is an aging system, and the PS3 is slated for fall 2006, a long ways away.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, the Tokyo Game Show will shed all the light required on the Revolution, and for Nintendo's sake it had better be good. It's gonna be up against some pretty stiff competition.

A heavy French influence and our misguided determination to distinguish ourselves from America in as many ways as we can.

I've heard this quite a bit. Conservatives in the US and in Canada (and I'm not aiming this at you, Furor) have a very condescending attitude toward this country, which I think is shameful and belittles our past.

I think it marginalises our national history to say that it has been caused by "having a large French culture" or "Trying to be different from America". The fact is that we have different histories. Our country is comprised of different cultural groups that don't see eye to eye very often and can muster the political clout to do something about their differences. Would you ever see a party with an agenda like the Bloc Quebecois garner so much support in the US? I think not.

My favourite example of this had to be a "debate" I saw on CNN between Tucker Carlson and Carolyn Parrish. She tried to present her views (extreme as they are) in a logical manner, while Carlson made igloo and dogsled jokes and made loaded statments such as "Canada is essentially a third-world country" without backing them up.

Not only that, but the Western Provinces are pretty much glazed over when it comes to the Federal Government. That's what happens when the population bulk is so great in the East that they can completely ignore us and still win the elections.

This is tough situation, because there is no truly fair answer to the question as long as Eastern and Western Canada disagree on so many important issues. I hear people here complain constantly about how "Ottawa just ignores the West", and boo hoo hoo.

The fact is that more than half the people of this country live in Ontario and Quebec. What right would we in the west have to subject them to our tyranny of the minority? I hear alot of complaining about this problem, but there is no fair solution to it.

If you were truely a Square fanboy, you would at the very least acknowledge the fact that Square in the begining worked almost exclusively for Nintendo in the early days.

If he's anything like me (also a Square fanboy), he would understand the very valid reasons why there has only been one Square game on a Nintendo (non-handheld) console in two full console generations. And that one title was meh.

The Revolution had better be incredible if it's gonna hope to compare with the upcoming generation, especially the PS3, which is shaping up to be a total powerhouse (though it will likely be the last of the 3 systems to come out). All this talk about reinventing the standard game controller is worrying to me. I just hope they don't try so hard to be innovative that they forget to make a quality product, which they sometimes do.

For those wondering about XBOX360 controller ports: The reason you don't see any is because its controllers are wireless. Apparently, though, you can plug a controller right into the XBOX's port and charge it while you play.

I also heard that the SRP for the XBOX 360 is expected to be about 300$US. Not really a surprise, and likely something I'll be willing to pay to get one.

relatively speaking, yes. the conservatives in power would probably not be as far right as republicans, but that's a funciton of the different cultures. on average canada is a little more to the left than the states, so our "far right" party is not quite as far right as the republicans. adjusting for the different cultures, though, the conservatives in canada are basically the same as the republicans in america.

Yes, this is defeinitely true, now. Our current Conservative Party, in my opinion, is about as far right as the Republican Party in the US. But the old Progressive Conservative Party (The one that existed before the merge with the Canadian Alliance) was definitely not. They were in general closer to the center than the right. That's one modern Canadian political trend; our conservatives here have become much more conservative lately.

I find it interesting that the Dems are against photo IDs, since it only strengthens the argument that they must be engaging in the voter fraud. Why else would they oppose the photo IDs for voting?

Maybe because they want everybody to vote. I know, I know, it's crazy... but seriously, hear me out...
