Honestly, this really seems like they're fixing the wrong problem, on top of fixing it with mostly ineffectual solution. As someone already mentioned on twitter, there are plenty of ways to get tokens, even if they're not official, but only "one" way to get actual cards.

I honestly like the idea of promo tokens, but not as something that replaces actual cards.

I would go for the booster box, just cause the first wave of hardware seems to be the most buggiest and bad lemon filled. :S

EDIT: Also, maybe Nintendo will make a bundle during the holiday season of 2017 too.

I don't think this is a bad card to make into a promo, but I am not a fan of the art. It looks a bit derpy.
    Derp snek.

I am disappointed with the lack of a continuous "easy" energy production and I am not feeling most of the fabrication cards, but other than that, this set looks solid. MUCH better than Battle for Zendikar.

    lol, true, I stand corrected.
and seeing this power level, I think it's very hard to believe anyone will buy some of these.

I think their real attempt was to get inexperience players to buy these.

Inexperience players who would probably instantly think that "Planewalker = Strong".

I kinda want to wait and see these decks and the other exclusives from them before making a more concrete judgement, but I get the feeling that these are probably not going to be the intro experience that new players need to be competitive.

Sounds good draft sounds fun, but I would not want to be blamed if I draft bad. I feel like lots of sharks would be at these things to destroy new people.

Yeah that is a problem with drafting, unfortunately. Frown

It takes a fair bit of time on top of money before you really learn it. Not to mention the store you go can have a fairly cutthroat community. From my personal experience, people were definitely helpful on Friday Night Magic, with the exception of the value of cards, that was something I had to find out on my own. On the other hand, I have heard of FMNs where they were much more strict and unforgiving.

Not trying to discourage you, of course. It always nice having new players trying out the game!

EDIT: I would have suggested using something like cockatrice, but those players can be REALLY strict and picky in the game.

If you are willing to wait and spend a little more money, some Friday Night Magic stores have prereleases of a new set where you get 6 packs + random promo rare. This format is typically called Sealed. It is a bit luck heavy, due to being completely dependent on what is in your packs, but it can give a similar feel to drafts, minus all the knowledge needed to draft better.(Personally, I prefer drafting over sealed, but that is just me.)

I would recommend looking up the youtube channel Tolarian Community College. He is VERY informative when it comes to beginner players.

So it is bad that I got an intro pack?

Well, I would not recommend them for the most part. Its not the worst thing in the world to buy with your money to get started in MtG. At the same time, intro packs have been known to be a bad value in general. Intro packs have been known to have cards that are not only ability-less but also just bad stats/abilities for the mana cost. Such as Thornhide Wolves,Vampire Noble, Sleep Paralysis and Silent Observer, known as draft chaff.

I feel you would be much more happier drafting and doing prereleases first, then try to obtain the cards needed to make you constructed deck.

Edit: Also, I strongly advice not just buying packs and cracking them. You should save your money for drafts and sealed events or single cards instead.

EDIT2: I guess I should add, that draft chaff means it's kinda only "good", if not, usable, in drafts or sealed. So while perhaps the above cards are bad in constructed, they have some place in drafts, depending on the situation.

I think I am more excited for the commons than I am for the rares. Which isn't that bad of a thing imo!

Would making this instant really have been too good?

Somehow, I get the feeling that Pyromancer's Goggles is to be partially blamed for this. They are playing this WAY too safely, even by Standard and Limited standards.

  • posted a message on are ypu happy with the set so far?
Well, judging by what I seen so far, the set seems to be shaping up decently so far. It does feel that some of the cards were designed too safely, while others were pushed beyond reason, though.

It honestly looks WAY better than Battle of Zendikar, but then again, I am still pretty salty about that set, so take that with grain of salt.

Remember this Emrakul is almost never 13 mana, and even with the turn after to compensate, a Mindslaver effect will still ruin your opponent pretty bad. I think I'm going to sig this since I think you're that wrong.

Instant, Sorcery, Creature. Those are the most common card types in the graveyard. Lands only go in there from Evolving Wilds and Artifacts only do if you build the deck specifically to vary card types. Enchantments only go there if you're running 4x Oath of Nissa and legend rule one of them. I really don't think people are going to play draft chaff like green Vessel to fuel card types without a ton of support/payoff from Eldritch Moon. In addition, the current dominant deck in standard, GW tokens, honestly doesn't care about the mindslaver effect a whole lot. You suicide a creature(which is probably not high individual value), maaaaaybe declaration in stone their hangarback walker? That's about as bad as it gets and it still results in getting overrun if you're behind. Ulamog costs 3 less to start with(no hoops to jump through) and instantly does work to stabilize the board, far more so than new Emrakul

Also, so cute that you're sigging a prediction that hasn't even seen the whole set yet. You're really desperate, aren't you?

    Sounds like someone's mad.

Me: *give a detailed explanation of why I think the new Emrakul is bad and won't see much constructed play.*

    You: "lel u mad bruh?"

    I rest my case.

And this is the problem with magic players.. a 13/13 flying trample pro instants mindslaver for 9-10... is considered bad, when Mind Slaver itself sees play, costs 10 mana to play and cast, and has no body...

Also this is a shining example of the problem with Old Emrakul... so powerful he warped the game all way back to legacy...

Well, to be fair, Mindslaver doesn't give your opponent "another turn" like Emrakul, the Promised End does. I don't think New Emrakul is bad though, but not that great.

At the very least, I would argue its a flavor home run.

Well this debunks the Egypt fall set rumor.

That probably means the rest of the info from that thread is false too then, since it came from the same source.
