So I think that after watching the latest episode, Parasyte may have gone up from "fantastic" to "best anime of late 2014-early 2015," at least in my book.

    Drop of Honey?

I'd suggest that you cut Vernal Bloom, Darksteel Pendant, That Which Was Taken, Protean Hulk (BANNED), and Deadwood Treefolk.

    Some Fate Reforged thoughts:

    • Archfiend of Depravity: This card appears solid for the control side of the build. I’m currently replacing Bloodgift Demon with the Archfiend; I’ll see how it plays out.
    • Crux of Fate: As far as wraths go, this might be an okay budget option. 5 mana is too much for me for a wrath, though
    • Dark Deal: I’ve seen a lot of negative responses for this card. I’m not enthused enough by it to run it; its use would be too niche for my build, but in the appropriate reanimator mono-B build, this could be okay.
    • Ghastly Conscriptions: An awkward Rise of the Dark Realms? I’m not enthused.
    • Hero’s Blade: In a more aggro-focused Xiahou Dun list, I’d totally see a spot for this.
    • Merciless Executioner: Fleshbag Marauder is solid in the right list. I think this guy has a lot of potential, though it doesn’t quite fit in this list as essentially a 3-mana Innocent Blood.
    • Palace Siege: The Khans mode has potential. In some respects, I prefer it to Dawn of the Dead. The Dragons mode… is rather unimpressive as far as life drain effects go. Though it’s clearly partially EDH-oriented with that “each” in there. All that said, at 5 mana, this doesn’t do enough quickly enough for its cost for this deck.
    • Scroll of the Masters: I’m actually kinda tempted by this card… But I’d be actually considering it more seriously if it were colored black, rather than an artifact. Again, potentially solid for the aggro builds.
    • Swamp: This card is OP and should be an auto-include in any deck. What a broken format staple.
    • Tasigur’s Cruelty: I generally would be exiling 4 cards. That said, I didn’t really like Murderous Cut, and this effect is a little more fringe than that for my decklist. There’s probably a discard-control player rejoicing over this card, though.
    • Ugin, the Spirit Dragon: The abilities are good, if only the mana cost wasn’t so high. I would prefer Karn Liberated for this list, and I’m not even running Karn Liberated between the mana cost and the limited (for me) use.

To make the format better Smile

I guess I meant this on a more personal level. To those people who are arguing for this change, what is spurring you on? What inspired you to argue for this change? Specifically, what inspired for you to argue for it rather than some other change?

    Quote from Cheethorne »
Well, yes, actually. If larger and larger numbers of people agree with this position than the RC might be convinced. Also, if the RC sees well reasoned debate on this issue and agrees with positions put forward by those seeking a rule change, than they might see fit to change the rule despite the existence of an ongoing debate, so it could work out either way.

Given that the RC has been resistant to this change in the past, what's the plan if no change is implemented?

Has anyone else thought of making Magic-themed cocktails? I think that you could certainly match flavors and colors to flavors and colors of actual Magic cards.

Yeah. And I was a sophomore in college.

Got me beat. I was in 11/12th grade in '97.

Yeah, ok. I'm only a year and a few months older than Airithne, so much younger than you ancient relics.

Ditto here. This was all high school for me. But a few shows, like Cowboy Bebop, really impressed me and I'm actually starting to carve through the western stuff I've been wanting to watch, so I thought it might be fun to see what's happened to the medium this past decade.

Most of the past decade for me. I'll try and post a list of my favorites here at some point soon. Haven't gone over everything I've watched in quite some time.

Parasyte and SAO are both solid; I've been keeping up with the former and enjoy it a lot.

I feel Trigun and Bebop kinda form a dichotomy; Trigun is more comedy focused with serious parts, while Bebop is more serious-focused with comedy parts.

However, despite the change that was made in the deck construction rules that prevented Memnarch from being played as a Commander, nothing actually changed in-game. A change in the deck construction rules for hybrid spells would hopefully follow this same pattern.

Key word: Hopefully. Here's a point: It would draw much more attention nowadays to the 246 (adding the five FRF legendaries) hybrid cards than back when Memnarch was made legal, given the popularity difference of the format. While it is a relatively small number of potential slots in decks to have an argument about, given that I'm guessing that it's not specific-card motivated, it is still a point of note that attention would be drawn to hybrid cards.

And in this discussion, nobody is asking to change things here for the sake of changing them.

So what is the motivation for arguing for the change in the first place?

    Quote from Cheethorne »
Well, I did ask the RC to change the rule and they said no. I just don't want to take no for an answer.

What are you expecting us to do? Convince the RC as a mob?

    Quote from sanmarco82 »
You really feel that changing what decks 240+ cards can be played is a small number? Uhh That's the size of a full size expansion!

In a small fraction of the possible decks in the format? Yes, I do.

    Quote from Spage »
I actually had the same reaction lol

See previous point about a the fraction of decks.

    Quote from DigitalFire »
Also, how does allowing hybrids in monocolor decks change how the game is played anymore than the Memnarch change?

Well, 246 (adding the five new legendaries) cards is a lot more than 10 (Bosh, Memnarch, Thelon, Daughter of Autumn, Rhys the Exiled, the five relevant FRF generals)... though the percentages might be similar.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    Also, here's something:

Let's say I make a mono-red deck entirely out of hybrid cards, with a mono-red general. I know that the hybrid supporters been generally talking about fringe play, but this would be a possibility. Does this really make sense as a mono-red deck?

Unless it's mono-white hatebears or stax, which are more likely to run cards that just shut Norin down.

On the Rings, I tried a similar card, Illusionist's Bracers for a bit, but ended up taking it out. There just weren't enough instances where I needed to have two abilities triggering. Granted, the Rings is better with most of this deck because it costs 1 less and most of the activated abilities are sacrifice anyways.

I also tried a triggered ability copier, Strionic Resonator, to try to take advantage of some of the nice ETB effects, but I found it to be a bit costly (since half the time I was also casting the creature), and not as useful as I thought.

    Just my experience.

Yeah, the notable use difference is that Rings interacts with much more, from Fetches (which is an amazing interaction), to Greater Good, Sensei's Divining Top, Birthing Pod, Fauna Shaman, Knight of the Reliquary...

Glad to see the thread getting some traffic.

Clearly you should make it into a primer. Smile

Thoughts on Rings of Brighthearth? Given the number of activated abilities in the deck spread between the four different permanent types that you are running, it seems like it would be amazing. It also allows you to get two things back with your general, which could be quite reasonable.

A playstyle question: How often do you find yourself entwining Tooth and Nail versus using each of the two modes individually?

I would suggest finding one of the rarer mono-colored generals and designing around it. Most generals can be made at a reasonable casual-competitive balance within, say, a 2-to-4 hundred budget.
