They literally should have just unbanned reflector mage, and that would have been perfect. He wouldn't be too good at all right now, and might let a new/old deck be decent again. Poor form wotc. You should have considered that more...
I bought or rather, pre-ordered cases of Kaladesh and Aether Revolt. Neither of the two, including recent fatpacks I purchased, from both sets (like less than two days ago), all had the "old" print style, which I think we all can agree, looked much, much better. I really hope this was a mistake of some kind by WOTC. They have to be able to see that this new "mesh" or "digital block" paper design on cards, looks and feels awful. I honestly, don't want a single one of those cards in my collection, so I've made a point to only trade for what I am calling "1st Edition Printings" of KAL and AER. I'm really glad I have them, they somehow also feel like they would be worth more, for players that feel the same as myself.
Is it just me, or are the mythics in this set REALLY BAD, especially value-wise. I mean Tezz and Ajani are the best in the set so far, and those are $15> at best lol. The rares and uncommon however, have looked insanely op. Just gonna throw off the ev of opening mythics, unfortunately.
It looks like a really great limited set, but aside from that, we will probably have to wait until Aether Revolt before things and get into "full swing" for constructed. That's the problem with sets like this, where they create a entirely new resource (energy) and cards to use it are completely limited to this one set only. I don't really see them moving forward with making energy cards a common thing in every set going forward. Therefor, energy related uses will be limited to when/if we return to Kaladesh in the future. Overall, I don't think people who are looking forward to a solid constructed set, whether it be for Standard or eternal formats, are too excited for some of the limiting mechanics happening within this set. Yes, we do have some strong looking Rares, and a few Mythics that should see their way immediately into Standard decks.
At the beginning of your upkeep Scry 1, then reveal the top card of your library. You lose life equal to that cards converter mana cost. Then put that card in your hand.
DoJ SHOULD be in the core set, and I'm betting it's reprinted in this one for reasons of design aesthetics (white needs a giant sweeper, DoJ is the white sweeper of the future).
As for Leyline of Vitality, the Anthem effect would have been too much (green anthem for 4 mana would be borderline playable on its own, nevermind the Leyline effect), but this is too little, so we end up with a bad card.
.shrug some card had to be the worst of the cycle.
Then reprint DOJ in m12. Zen and m11 literally rotate on the same day. All they accomplished by doing this was to de-value an an already 6 dollar card, as opposed to doing the same for a certain 80 dollar Mythic. GENIUS!!!
Yawgmoth's not coming back. Literally millions of people in the Magic universe sacrificed themselves to kill him off for good, and they even printed a card to commemorate it. It just makes the entire Weatherlight storyline stupid (well, stupid-er) to bring him back, and cheapens his character in the process.
New Phyrexia will be about what the ideal of Phyrexia looks like without Yawg at the helm, I guarantee.
Probably because I was specifically thinking of that when I wrote my post earlier.
I dunno man. What if all this time we found out that Yawgmoth somehow was controlling Bolas all along . Or had found a way to imprint himself on Karn (Return of the Joker anyone?). That would explain Karn feeling his mind being corrupted . I think this would be an incredible way to bring Yawgmoth back, if they ever decided to do that.
Force of Will and Demonic Tutor are strong cards, but that's the point of cube. Neither card is degenerate over several turns. Skullclamp gets better the longer it remains in play. Force of Will does not.
Land Tax still requires some testing. At this point I'd argue that it's only super powerful on turn one and even then there are bounce lands to try and counteract it.
I think I can agree with what your saying. I'm still convinced that land tax is far too good in any situation. A recurring deck thining/mana advantage one mana enchantment is just too good in my opinion. I also agree with the above post about cube versions and keeping a change log. I think this cube is a very very strong starting off point for a lot of people looking into a good common/uncommon cube list. I only hope we can make further adjustments to it in the future. Such as, maybe looking into creature to non-creature ratios of certain colors. I also still think there are still powerful cards out there that are being overlooked. With further testing I will post some results.
How is fow and maze of ith, demonic tutor, land tax working out for you? They seem boarderline too powerful. I was also surprised not to see crypt rats in your cube.
