If you notice at the end of the video they fan out the 5 planeswalker cards. They show Gideon J. with his original art and the m12 symbol. the other 4 you can't quite tell if art is original or not
You should have used gatherer pictures since the coloration would have been more accurate. Printed cards differ in coloration a ton.
I really doubt all 5 of them will be reprints, making Jace and Chandra new cards would work well since they had a duel deck, whereas the other guys haven't. And it'll keep the set semi-fresh on the planeswalker part. Perhaps they'll explain it with a "we will reprint a walker only X number of times before a new version is mandatory."

A part of me was hoping we'd see him again in the SOM block rallying forces to fight against his former friend and ally, but I guess the little guy really did make the ultimate sacrifice after all...
A cheap little one or two drop Goblin PW with some self destructive tendencies would be pretty damn fun IMO.
Me too! I had hopes for him in NPH, but alas, not even a single Gob. Man, a PW like that would be incredible! I've been trying to come up with something like that that isn't completely broken or useless. I'm not sure that we'd see something like that in a core set though. I think WotC likes to stick with the 'humanesque' walkers for core sets, since they're the sets they like to try and attract new players with. Would be one reason they replaced Ajani with Gideon, makes it easier for them to identify with them
If anything, this looks like we'll be seeing familiar faces again.
Which is sort of a shame because there's a LOT of untapped potential still for walkers. Specifically non human ones. All of these different worlds and faces Wizards, and you're telling me that your main cast consists pretty much of nothing but people? Not a single Goblin, Vashino, or Nantuko or whatever has ascended and is rolling around or gotten mixed up in this confounding web of BS you call an overarching story?
Karn was a Golem gone Planeswalker, Nissa is an elven one. Ajani a nacatl. So they're starting to use non-humans I'd LOVE to see a goblin pw! If only Slobad coulda held on to Glissa's spark.

That art has been out for a month and a half or so I think. Jace also has new art released. Both are used on the new MTG Deckbuilder's Toolbox.

Reprints get different art occasionally. So even if the art is different, we wont truly know if these are reprints or not until they are actually spoiled.

If you guys look very, very closely, you'll see that the background art seems slightly different than the originals.
Only ones that look like the art is the same are Gideon (obviously) and Sorin.
The rest have different shades/positioning of colors.
Look very closely and you might see what I see.
In fact, the Chandra art resembles the new art from the Toolbox moreso than the old art... I hate that art so much...
I can't seem to find a full art pic of the new Jace art for comparison, so it's hard to say if the M12 Jace will have the new art or not. His art in the background does look slightly different from the original.
You know what, you're right. When I first saw them, it looked similar to me, so I just wrote them off as reprints. they're definitely different. Shopping up something now.
What I meant was they just spent an entire block's spoiler seasons trying to make us wonder whether the last set would be New Phyrexia or Mirrodin Pure, why would they just throw this at us out of the blue. They could easily have just photoshop'd the symbol onto a RoE Gideon. Besides I never said it wasn't official, just that all might not be what it seems like it is at first glance.

They're trying to ramp hype for DotP 2012, as well as the core set. That's why they intro'd the promo titans a while back too. So this is hardly out of the blue. (Even if they did shop M12 symbols onto him :D)
Where'd you get that shot? I don't remember seeing that in the video. Looks like we're getting Beleren back after comparing JtMS and Beleren's cards edges. The one in the screenshot is clearly Beleren:

2. I honestly don't think we will get updated versions of anything. Yes, Jace 1.0 seems small, but he also seems small in comparison to most other things anyway. The issue here is what the planeswalkers fill in the format of a core set and the base 5 (with the inclusion of Sorkin and Gideon) do a good job of rounding out the color pie. .

Here's hoping that Gideon will turn out to be some kind of Magic main good guy who keeps showing up every now and then. Kinda like what Bolas is for the dark side.
