I've still found superion to be pretty good as there are still a number of matchups where the opponent has difficulty answering them. I've also faced a lot less fatal push decks these days. They're also key in winning a lot of the bad matchups like elves or counters company which can chump block for days because it punches hard along with ghor clan rampager and/or legion loyalist.

I think this deck isn't too bad right now as it does alright against jeskai and mono g tron. The humans matchup is rough but is still doable with the right draws. I'm still not too sure how this deck does against B/R hollow one since burning inquiry is such a high variance card but it doesn't seem unwinnable either.

If anyone is interested in playing something closer to izzetmage's original list, I've been finding some decent success with this:

    https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/07-08-17-Djy-rg-vengevine/?cb=1530689333

Recently went 4-0 at a pretty competitive modern FNM beating storm, burn, jeskai control and naya zoo. Sideboard is a little all-over the place but I'm satisfied with the mainboard for now.

Thalia's lancers mana cost means it's only reliable for tutoring up our threats and I'm not sure if it's worth switching a threat for it. It has good synergy with emeria but normally when we're looking for a threat it's when we're on top decking mode and we need something that immediately has an impact on the board.

    Just my 10 cents

You might find yourself lacking threats although you do have shambling vents. Even running a sun titan, baneslayer angel and a gideon jura I find myself beating down with hawks half the time since the ascendants usually get killed. I also think you might struggle without at least 4 ghost quarters, might be able to skimp on the tec edge though. I also think that having two mistveil plains will help a lot since we can shuffle our decks a lot and it has great synergy with hawk. I'm not too sure I'd play reservoir in the main but from my experience, getting to 50+ life isnt really that common. I am also a huge fan of running at least 3 oring effects since we have difficult dealing with walkers etc. The deck is reaaally grindy so prepare to go to time a lot.

Sweet, thanks for the swift response! I'm going to switch out the Reservoir for a Sun Titan in that case, and switch a basic Plains to a Mistveil. How do you feel about Blood Baron in that slot? Since it has protection from most spells, and it takes 2 Bolts (which has lost popularity recently) to kill?

Blood baron is good as pro-white, pro-black is great. The threats in this deck are pretty flexible, you get a lot of walkers and big creatures to choose from so just see what does well during testing in your local meta. Without testing I can't say for certain but I'm not sure how often you'll be able to get Emeria running if you only have 1 and if you only have 10 or so plains. I'd try to switch that out for a ghost quarter if you find during your testing that it doesn't pan out. I also wonder how athreos will do since its rare to have such high devotion and giving your opponent the choice might not work out so well. Again, haven't really tested it so just something to keep in mind when you test.

Hi folks, a newbie here on MTG Salvation. Lemme know if I'm posting incorrectly or anything like that.

I've been pushing alot of my modern cards into Legacy but I'm building Martyr Proc as my pet deck to fool around with in modern.
I started playing modern with hatebears and I love white weenie decks. Decided to join Salvation so I can take part in this discussion since I saw there was life!!!
I'm heavy on the competitive scene (I play at a major competitive store, and go to PPTQs every other weekend) so I'm finishing the deck soon and will be jamming it pretty hard. I'm an Orzhov diehard so anything BW I get to play, I'm gonna do it.

    Here's my decklist:

(I was fooling around in testing forums but couldn't figure out how to make headers in the deck BBcode...
So LANDS, CREATURES, SPELLS, SIDEBOARD! Also, can y'all help me with the deck headers?)

Currently the only spice I'm playing is Athreos, God of Passageand Aetherflux Reservoir. I've found Athreos to be insanely good, as it recurs your Martyrs or just speeds your clock with each one you sac. Reservoir is a great insta-win once you drop it, and helps incidentally against burn and Valakut.

    My board selection:

    2x Anguished Unmaking
Useful for spot removal against Tron and Death's Shadow

    4x Castigate
I bring Castigate in as my discard spells, granted it's slower than something like Thoughtseize but life gain is always relevant in this deck.
I almost always bring these in and cut other cards that are bad in certain matchups (control, storm, CoCo, Valakut, Tron and other combo decks)

    2x Ethersworn Canonist
My go-to hatebear against storm; works wickedly well against cascade if you're ever facing Living End.

    2x Kambal, Consul of Allocation
Another hatecard for control, storm, burn, and Death's Shadow

    3x Leyline of Sanctity
Who doesn't play Leyline and who cares if you draw more, you're Martyr Procing anyhow. This is my best and /only/(?) defense against Valakut

2x Wheel of Sun and Moon
This is my hate for graveyard-based decks, namely dredge. But works well against the occasional Goryo's deck. I've considered bringing this in against storm since it stops half of Gifts Ungiven.

There's two cards I'm on the fence for playing is Blood Baron of Vizkopa. I a b s o l u t e l y love this card against all midrange decks, since no one can do anything about it in the current meta unless they force you to discard it. Buuuut I'm having difficulty finding a reason to play it, or where to slot it in the 75.
The same goes for Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, I love the utility but I can't find anywhere to slot it.

Lemme know what you guys think. I'm here for criticism and feedback. Thanks alot!

EDIT: I forgot to mention I'm looking to board Gideon, Ally of Zendikars, for Valakut since that's the main deck I'm having a problem with...

You might find yourself lacking threats although you do have shambling vents. The three thalias in the board seems interesting and has been something I've been meaning to try for quite some time now. Not really sure how I feel about the Wall of Omens though since we're losing out on removal as a result

I know that isn't good as Hawk, but it's worth to mention the new spoiled card:

    Legion Conquistador
    2W
    Creature - Vampire Soldier
When Legion Conquistador enters the battlefield, you may search your library for any number of cards named Legion Conquistador, reveal them, put them into your hand, then shuffle your library.
    2/2

If Death's Shadow runs out of control, this card is a good answer.
But with our current metagame this card isn't good enough.
According to MTGGoldfish: Storm (7%), Titan Valakut (6.5%), Eldrazi Tron (6%), Grixis Death's Shadow (5.5%), Burn (5.25%), UW Control (4.5%), Affinity (4.25%), Abzan (3.75%), Eldrazi & Taxes (3.25%) and Ad Nauseam (3.25%) are the ten most played decks.

    Three of them are very rough (Storm, Valakut and Ad Nauseam);
    Three are bad, but winnable (Eldrazi Tron, Eldrazi & Taxes and UW Control);
Two are fair (Grixis Death's Shadow, Abzan)
Two are good matchs (Burn and Affinity)

What do you think about the new card and the metagame regarding our deck?

I think 3 mana is too much and not having flying is also not so great. I think its good as long as GDS keeps all the combo in check. Storm is a doable matchup although its hard. The hardest matchups for me are elves and vizier combo since its hard to hate it out.

I am currently testing the Dragon alongside Remand.

I still think Green should be the best splash but I'm finding blue better.

What would you add with green?

I recently picked up the cards I needed to run this deck and have only played a few games, and so far I'm super excited about it! What's the best non-Gideon finisher for the deck if you want to be able to win fairly quickly? Anyone tried Entreat The Angels?

How does blue improve the matchups?

This deck does not win quickly unless you get a turn 2/3 activated ascendant and your opponent has no answers which is unlikely unless your opponent is playing a fairly uninteractive deck. Walkers a great, sun titan is great, even baneslayer is not bad. A lot of the times you will find yourself playing a very long game 1 and beating them to death with squadron hawks, taking advantage of mistveil planes and emeria. Im not too sure about entreat the angels, the problem is that its not very useful when it isn't drawn in the late game. If anything I'd maybe play around with something like martial coup.

Blue helps with the sideboard and adds supreme verdict and detention sphere. Also helps with giving us more threats to choose from such as dragonlord ojutai and celestial colonnade. This deck is bad against combo decks as well and having blue can help to alleviate some of those issues.

How are you guys dealing with elves? I find that they're too fast and I have difficulty shutting down all of their game plans since they have so much redundancy. All I can do is hope that I have a bunch of wraths but even then it doesn't always turn out well.

I think it's good but I still prefer relic as it also helps me deal with delve and goyf etc.

Have u tried using nevermore against storm? or do they have too much redundancy/ways to kill you. I can imagine naming past in flames could be a problem for them.

the storm matchup is just luck. If you can get to 30 quick with ascendants you can clock em real fast g1. post-sideboard youre essentially just aggressively mulliganing till you get your cards. Leyline of sanctity, grave hate or rule of law effects are the way to go (leyline less so).

Sometimes I feel like splashing black just for thoughtseize in the main. I'm not sure what I would take out but I feel like it would help out with a lot of matchups g1

Nice job, what decks did you play against?

Dredge, uw control, grixis control, affinity, ur gift storm

How did you find your game against storm? Was it just off pure luck?

Also, how are you sideboarding out against grixis death shadow? At the moment I'm removing 1-2 ascendant, the wayfarer, 2 wraths and sometimes an oring. Sometimes I feel like I should be removing all of the ascendants since they simply just kill it too easily and I have difficulty staying above 30 during longer games a lot of the times.
