So when I played back in middle/high school, I had a couple of these weird deck boxes that were fairly large and held about a deck. They were the same material as the old Disney VHS tapes and i had one that was green and one that was red (they were really dark, almost black in color). The front & back were kinda poofy like those VHS tape cases, but had a dragon or wurm or something that went from the front to back.
The main thing, was that when you opened the case, much like those aforementioned VHS cases, they laid out like an open book, with a space for your deck and your graveyard.
I have not been able to find anything on the internet, but I probably picked them up between 1997 and 1999 as that was when I was really into the game.
hey check out battlegrounds in norwalk, its on rt 7. really cool dudes. if you want to hop into nyc, 20sided store in brooklyn is where i play and we always welcome new folks.
they need to make a chronicles type set, with all the staples for modern. the is precedent (well, it was 17 years ago, but still). honestly, i dont think wotc does this enough, they could do a small 100 card reprint set sold in 8 card boosters for older formats.obvs the reserve list limits this, but i think the reserve list should be edited anyway, there are definitely cards that have no business being on there from the late 90's. if the point of the reserve list is so cards retain their value to collectors then why have cards that are practically worthless on it?
I have played it a bit, for about 3 weeks now. it fares pretty well, Niv rarely sticks and because you do have a lot of power in it you have to be very political, make an ally if possible. i can usually get the win about 40% of the time. my playgroup is a mix of new players getting into the format and old time players wanting to have insane card interactions. ive brought it to another playgroup in boston while on a trip and it fared decentally well winning 1 of 2 multiplayer(4people) games.
i would like to add some power cards (force of will & wasteland come to mind) but the prices have been prohibitive since other cards were a priority to complete the deck.
i played a game last week where one guys saw i was running niv-mizzet (which i made to be fairly casual and not incredibly overpowered) and ran his azusa deck that ramps out to the 2 legal eldrazi titans. the start of the game the kid with the kalia and a akroma in hand drew hate (i destroyed all of his lands while the other guy destroyed the rest of his permanents) but we realized who the threat was. we built up our new comrades defenses and took down the problem deck.
i rarely ragequit id rather find a solution to the offending deck through team work!
This is my first EDH/Commander deck. I picked up an Niv-Mizzet the Firemind when i got back into magic for this and I finally put the pieces together. After some testing i realized 2 of the infinite combos were dick moves and wern't fun for anyone including me. so i cut ophidian eye and curiosity but kept mind over matter as its not always degenerate. sometimes its just an extra tool. with some other tweeking im now confident that this is in the spirit of EDH. this deck still combos to win, but i find myself aligning with others to help their goals more while i very slowly build my position. my final goal is to drop Niv & time spiral the same turn, and follow that up with another 1-3 hand cycling cards for a quick finish. without further ado:
Probably? It would depend on the time available and such. I was just trying to point out we dont know anything about how marketing handles these things. Sorry it was longwinded. Its been a long night.
I just read the last few pages and it seems everyone is arguing a similar point, what it comes down to is how closely related to the project the person(or persons) in marketing care about continuity. To save money wotc probably made one video and had things like card names and languages altered for each localization in a program like after effects. Does this person(s) know what cards are being used? Were they given any instructions beyond the obvious showcase cards? And how closely tied to m12 development are they? These are the questions to ask. The picture is obviously of 5 planeswalker cards but was the guy localizing this told what card text to use or to just make sure gideon was promoted and to fake the rest?

Thank you to anyone with any info!
i cant find a definitive value for them and online prices are betweem 13 and 50 bucks.
what is the actual trade value of these as i get a lot of questions and i never know what to value them at and wind up not off loading them.
thank you in advance.
