    1. can my notion thief net me cards if opponent has phyrexian arena in play? what about sylvan library?

    2. if i enchant Qasali Pridemage with pattern of rebirth than sacrifice said mage to destroy the pattern, will i be able to search for a creature?

1a) Yes. If you have notion thief in play and your opponent has Arena, they will lose one life, and you will draw one card off of notion thief's effect during their upkeep.

1b) Yes, If your opponent chooses to draw the two extra cards from Sylvan library while you have notion thief in play, they will only draw one (Their normal draw for the turn) You will draw two, and then they will have to choose between either putting the card that they drew back, and paying four life, or keeping the card they drew, and paying eight life.

    2) Yes. Sacrificing the Pridemage is part of the Ability's cost, as a result, Pattern will be put into the GY at the same time and trigger before the Pridemage's ability has the chance to resolve.

"One card is in all occurrences (WITHIN REASON) is better than another."

Bolded part is key. I guess this thread is more about how "Reasonable" you are or how "Reasonable" the games of magic you play are.

Anything that involves what Conley Woods would describe as 'Magical Christmas Land' is not under the purview of reasonable play and/or situations.

Edit: This thread is basically just people coming up with inane and insane situations to troll others.

If they are staffing for 4000 I would think that number wouldn't be that unreasonable.

I assume their estimates are usually fairly accurate since I have rarely been in what I would consider an understaffed event.

I'll confirm that they're staffing the event for 4000+

I speak with a couple of L2's weekly, and Cascade has been aggressively working to get as many judges on the staff as possible. The L2's I spoke to (Including one who is judging vegas) said that is the number they're aiming to accommodate come that weekend.

While Vegas isn't the same locationwise in terms of population density as Charlotte was, you're still looking at a huge pool of players.

All of the population hubs in CA are within driving distance, as are many in the mountain states/desert states. Pretty much every medium-large and bigger airport in the western US have inexpensive direct flights to vegas.

That pool alone would make for a pretty large GP. Once you factor in the people who are coming in internationally and from the east coast for this once-in a long time tournament, add in the fact that it's in a city with a unique allure (Vegas) and this has the potential to be enormous.

My guess is 3.5k+ or more for the main event. This is going to be the biggest GP in history.

I heard the TO say something along the lines of wizards having to produce a significant portion of the print run just so they would have enough product for this event.

  • posted a message on Americans purchasing on MKM?
Officially, no, MKM is supposed to be for european users only, and that is largely how the system is regulated.

However, this varies from seller to seller. You are certainly allowed to message sellers and ask them if they'd be willing to ship outside of Europe (To the US, etc) and answers will depend. If they say no, then you just have to try and find someone else who has what you want.

If they say yes, you will be responsible for the international shipping costs as well as insurance/other fees for expensive items and customs.

The best way to do it is to set up a european contact or intermediary, as some people have said.

along similar lines as this. If I did say something like, "I am going to name Show and tell" and they let it resolve can I then name something else? It is being nit picky, but I never technically said I am naming something. Is this too much of a fine line to tread.

I ask this because when I said my statement, I actually did intend on naming show and tell, but I also intended my comment as a heads up to the player, not as a deceleration of action.

It's a tricky situation. From what i've gleaned from judges, if you say you're going to name a card or try to shortcut the resolution, and your opponent takes no actions (Lets the spell resolve) you will be held to that choice.

However, if you say you're going to name something, and then your opponent takes an action before the spell would resolve (Say brainstorms relevant spell copies away) as Therapy hasn't resolved yet, you still are free to name whatever you want upon its resolution.

Most opponents when they ask you "Naming?" for cabal therapy are signaling that the spell is resolving.

  • posted a message on If City of Brass is Modern's, what is Legacy's land?
Wasteland would be ok, except it's not grand or appealing in the same style as City of Brass.

Dual land montage would definitely be appropriate.

    Quote from taylors
I want to make sure I understand what Blood moon and other similar cards like spreading seas do since saying "is a mountain" seems like a huge shortcut that's hiding a lot of detail behind the scenes.

So is the following correct and is it the full story? Blood moon effects on two layers: a type changing effect which makes the land subtypes change to "Mountain" and an ability removing effect which removes all abilities then gives "{T}: Add {R}".

So for example, if I play a chromatic lantern after a blood moon, my nonbasics will be able to tap for any color but if I play it before, they won't? Or if not, how do those two interact?

I believe that regardless of when you play chromatic lantern (Before or after) all your lands will have the tap for any color ability.

While blood moon will change them into mountains, the lantern grants them an ability that is in place regardless of what land type they are.

Boxes are still on ebay for 220-240.

There are always alternatives to retailers.

  • posted a message on What's the best standard deck of ALL TIME???
    Saga Blue/Academy. Hands down.

No other standard deck was so consistent, so powerful, so banned, now.

It survived for one tournament before it got emergency banned, and I believe it dominated the T8 of that tournament. (5+ slots?)

Why is the ooze this more efficient?

Cancel is a purely reactive spell, and it is only capable of answering ONE thing.
You use cancel to prevent your opponent from doing something, not to push yourself/your deck closer to victory.

Ooze, on the other hand, is both proactive and reactive. Proactively, it provides you with a body that is capable of attacking, blocking, dealing damage to your opponent, and winning you the game.

Reactively, it allows you for a very minimal mana investment to repeatedly prevent your opponent from having access to resources in the graveyard. Flashback spell? Exile. Trying to make mana with Deathrite? Exile. Undying trigger? Exile.

It is more efficient than cancel because you can repeatedly use it to answer opposing threats.

Is a 5/5 for 6 mana that crazy good?

Is a 2/2 for two mana with the flexibility and choice to shut down graveyard oriented strategies, become the biggest beater on the board, stop deathrite from doing anything, stop snapcaster shenanigans, and turn normally unused resources into life that crazy good?

Oh ****, I answered my own question.

Scavenging Ooze as an uncommon would be extremely unfun for a limited format.

"Lets take a tier 1 GY hate card from eternal formats, and make sure there is at least 2 per 8-pod, where games revolve largely around removal and creatures."

    I think this is real.

There's no other reason SCG would drop the price from 30-20 if they didn't suspect a mass reprint was coming.
