OathboundOne posted a message on Glorious DestinyPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from dLANCER »"Threshold of X permanents in play!"
That's all I needed the rules page to say. But it isn't worded the way the usual new Thresholds are with "Threshold- Whatever do a thing. (You have Threshold if blah)
Keep trying wotc.
Honestly I think it would have been more flavorful as a simple Threshold mechanic.
"Ascend - As long as you control ten or more permanents..."
That would have opened up the possibility to LOSE it after you gained it, you know the same way that the factions are implied to be trading/gaining/losing control of the city in the story. It'd certainly make it more interactive. Opponent "control's the city?" Destroy a few permanents. Need the "city's blessing?" Conquer more of the city (play out/steal a couple more permanents).
As a one shot deal it's... well rather boring. -

KnickM posted a message on [Compiled] Upcoming Promo InformationPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from 6655321 »Anyways, there goes my unsolicited, loosely held opinion on the matter.
WOTC has stated that they want FNM to be less competitive, not more. They're dialing back the rewards, in the hopes of getting more casual players out of the woodwork. Standard Showdown (which rewards rares, foils, and promo basic lands) is where they want the real competition to be, and they don't want the competitive players showing up to crush FNMs just for a playset of Fatal Push. Whether or not that's a good thing is certainly debatable, but that's WOTC's stance on it and the rationale for this decision.
In other (more new-promo-related) news, I've updated the OP with the latest Judge foils - Spellskite and Pendelhaven! -

BlueTronFTW posted a message on Christine Sprankle and Harassment in the MTG CommunityThis is the problem with this thread, though. The rules currently in place say "if you don't believe its harassment, you're wrong, and you're not allowed to make any sort of claim."Posted in: Magic General -

ProfessorWhen posted a message on Christine Sprankle and Harassment in the MTG CommunitySo the trick is to not post in this thread, then? Looking at the other thread it seems like everyone not condemning the guy was given a warning for trolling. This is really poor conduct by the mods.Posted in: Magic General -

It's awkward that this is a pseudo board wipe that your opponent will start playing around if you reveal it too early. But it IS one-sided and comes with a 6/6. Also you can just kill stuff you put counters on in the mean time. I like that the 1-mana activation might slot in easily during your turns.
It can also just be a 7-mana 6/6 that ETBs to kill a thing. It doesn't even add to the flicker shenanigan deck, but does push you towards wanting a Cabal Coffers and an Urborg. -

Kindslaver would be funny to watch as a third party, otherwise scary as the one who was kindslavered.
T5: I Traumatize myself
T6: Damnation, land go.
T7: I play Bojuka Bog and Over My Dead Bodies

Do you use the ones WOTC supplies in packs or do you go for custom tokens?
Does it matter for a 60 card modern competitive deck versus a 100card singleton format?
Lastly, what are your favorite creature/thing tokens? I want to know what most popular tokens are.

side load ultra pro pages. i dont like the coming out the top. never had much of a problem with them sliding out the sides.
i have a decktutor 4xl and pages for my zombie colelction. its big and nice and great for browsing, not for anything else. good to keep your playsets you hardly use but it isnt something you'd take with you to the store.
i hate d-rings. they make flipping pages tedious, they make closing the binder tedious. they leave indents in the cover.

Since I don't currently work, my answer to your question is, no.
But the schedules I had in the past prevented me from playing FNM, when FNM promos were great. Aside from that, I never reall yplayed magic events for the prizes. It was never the main goal I had when walking into the store.
It seems your interest to play is to earn prizes. Why not enjoy the ever changing format of Standard for what it is? You have the means, you could play a new top tier or janky brew every week, would that not be fun? I would certainly have more fun doing that over playing against the same handful of commander decks for no prizes at all.

They don't even do their normal job to keep out spam, so yeah, you're right.

He picked up the Nicol Bolas PW deck, and we played a few casual games of 60 card stuff, and then some others joined us to play EDH He borrowed a deck. He was going to play standard all the while him and I were chatting, but when I met him again a week later he was doing the EDH thing. No longer interested in the cost of standard, he said. 100-200 on singles for a deck he can keep for years is much better than 200+ for a deck only good for a few months.
This is what happens, and why new players are there, but not playing standard. It costs too mucht o play, and win. Every one is competitive. They just want to be competitive with what they have, whether it is budget or a gimmick deck or even their holdover Spirits tribal deck from Eldritch Moon. When it costs a lot to play, and then lose over and over, you either decide its not worth the investment and find other cheaper formats to play, or you quit overall.
