I am currently writing a series of primers on cube archetypes. So far I have wrote five articles, which you can access here: http://cubearchetypes.wordpress.com/
I am aiming to put a new archetype up every 2 weeks.
Your comment about swords is an opinion that you can certainly take. However, I would argue that its founded on bias observation from the perspective of a control player who has all the tools in their deck to stop swords.
What you are not considering is that swords DEMAND answers. So much, in fact, that cubes need to make sure to balance enough equipment answers so that swords don't run over every game they are played.
By framing your point that x amount of swords is too much because you have answers that minimize their impact proves how powerful swords are. Without those cards you mentioned the swords would turn every aggro durdly dude played against you into threats.
Now, that being said, don't run 5 swords in one deck. But if you have a table of 8 drafters, just about every single drafter is going to want a sword.
I would be far more willing to accept the argument that you may skip on a few swords because they can be draft/format warping in their power level (you need to plan the cube to have answers, dedicating slots to deal with equipment, for example). And even then they are still worth playing (they give aggro much needed reach, especially in the colours that don't have cards like Sulfuric Vortex). This statement is especially true of Jitte, which gives many players opposite it nightmares.
Ashiok definitely IS dramatic. It's been fun having a viable source of mill in cube. Totally luck, but it's a blast to exile someones finisher, the land drop they needed, or the perfect answer to the threat you just dropped.
This planeswalker tends to encourage yelling in my playgroup.
That Princess Mononoke Pox is all kinds of awesome, and not a reference I would have ever considered before now, which imo, are the best gems to discover when you draft someone's cube.
=).
I am so glad with the way it turned it out. Great reference that matches the theme of the card.
