They lose probably around 30, you gain it.

That doesnt actually work, since Sorin's ability says the players life total becomes ten, it doesnt say they lose life. It simply changes their life total it doesnt lower it through damage or life loss.

Painful Quandary is one of my favourite cards for this type of deck.

Not only is Death not bad, it is essential to the continuation of life.

There is only a limited amount of energy and matter on this planet and all 100% of it is being used at all times. This means that in order to produce the matter necessary to create new life, an old life must end.

Every organism on this planet is only capable of surviving by consuming the energy and nutrients of other organisms. If you want to keep living then you have to consume another living organism, whether plant or animal. When you do that the other organism must die in order to fuel your continued existence. Not even vegans can avoid causing the deaths of other lives, since we are only capable of sustaining ourselves through the consumption of biological matter and that matter will, at one point, have been alive. Even tofu is made out of soy beans and those soy beans were once attached to a plant that was at one time a living organism.

This does'nt just apply to animals eating other animals but also to plants which draw nutrients from the soil. Where do those nutrients come from? From the remains of animals and other plants that decayed into the ground. Whether life evolved this way or was created by God is irrelevant as it does not change how this world functions.

Death is the foundation of all life.

    How about Memnarch?

Sure, he's hardly mana efficient, requiring a total investment of 14 mana to steal just one permanent(7 to cast him, then another 7 to change a permanent into an artifact and swipe it), but if your opponent cant get rid of him you can steal something every single turn. Even if memnarch is destroyed you still retain control of everything you stole with him.

Enslave is a better mind control. For one extra mana it slowly pings away at your opponents life total. Though one life a turn in edh is'nt much, it's still a nice little bonus.

Fool's demise has always been one of my favourite stealing effects. Ok so the creature has to die first, but your playing black and you've got thraximundar as your general. Should'nt be too hard. The fact that you get the enchantment back afterwards to steal another creature is why I love it so. If you need to keep one of your own dudes alive then just stick it on them instead. your opponent will kill it and it will come right back.

A nasty little combo- put fools demise on Keiga, the tide star and sac it to ashnods altar. Get a creature plus 2 mana, use that mana to help cast fools demise on Keiga again. Rinse and repeat as may times as you can each turn.

Also, I know you dont like one turn threaten effects but another instant speed one is act of aggression. Stealing an opponents creature mid combat and using it to block another attacking creature, killing both of them, is always fun.

Slave of bolas solves the problem of other threaten effects by not letting your opponent have their creature back afterwards.

Grimgrin, corpse-born is another sac outlet. He also functions much like thraximundar himself, killing creatures and getting bigger whenever he attacks.

  • posted a message on Ever been punished for doing the RIGHT thing?
"Right" and "Wrong" are each based on our own individual perceptions and preferences.

You thought you did the right thing by trying to help the woman, your boss thought you did the wrong thing by breaking the rules.

This is the whole reason we go to war because what we each think is right is different for each one of us and we are constantly trying to force our own opinions and ideals upon each other.

This is human nature and will never change. If what you think is right goes against the majority or against the people in power then prepare to suffer for your beliefs. It's stupid but it's true.

    Quote from Maya the Hunter
From a human point of view, we usually think we're more rational than we actually are.

Why do so many people think that being rational is somehow more important than irrationality?

Irrationality is the only way we ever enjoy life. We could do the rational, logical thing and work hard every day to secure our finances, we could be cold and calculating with no emotion. That might make us successful but there is no pleasure whatsoever in it.

Playing magic accomplishes nothing, people who don't play would consider it a waste of time, yet we do because we enjoy it. That is irrational since according to "logic" spending our time with card games accomplishes nothing.

Emotions are nothing BUT irrational and despite how intelligent we like to think we are, we are still nothing more than animals completely driven by our emotions and personal desires and urges.

If any one responds to this post arguing that they CAN control their emotions is probably taking offense at being compared to animals. But the simple fact that you responded means you got upset enough to defend yourself, meaning your emotions still got the better of you any way.

A narcotic that messes with your brain has a chance of screwing you up permanently? Did we really need a study to figure this out? Im pretty sure most of the world has known this for quite some time.

If i enchant an opponents creature with pollenbright wings, would I still get the saproling tokens when it deals damage since I'm still the one controlling the enchantment?

I'm always a fan of zombies but I'm not liking how blue is getting some pretty decent creature beats recently. It feels like it's intruding too much on greens territory.

second turn praetor's grasp to look through your opponents deck. Then next turn cast nevermore naming whatever card is the most problematic for your deck.

I agree that 13 damage is a bit of overkill most of the time, but in a multiplayer game this could easily cost just 3 or 4 mana to cast. I like it and I want it.

People need to remember that not every card is designed for standard, some are for 1v1 casual and some are for multiplayer. Blasphemous act becomes better the more opponents you have as there will be more creatures on the battlefield.

I'm not usually a big fan of blue( in fact it's my least favourite colour). But this is so bizarre I can't help but like it.

being able to dodge removal for 2 mana is a pretty powerful ability, but it's balanced by the fact that you have to mill yourself. Of course, having 4 of these in a deck greatly reduces the number of cards you would mill before hitting a copy.

As many people have already stated, the werewolf cards are absolutely terrible design.

In order to turn my wimpy human into a badass werewolf I have to play no instants during my opponents turn and then cross my fingers and hope my opponent doesnt have the mana to cast multiple spells. This becomes extremely unreliable during late game when your opponent will have plenty of mana.

When i turn my small creature into a bigger creature, the last thing I want is for my opponent to be able to change it back again just by playing the game as they normally would.

It would have made more sense to bring back the flip cards from Kamigawa.

I like flashback and am glad to see it return, hopefully there will be some new ways of using the mechanic.

morbid doesnt even need to be a keyword. It just eats up space in the text box.

The only reason the "enchant player" auras have the "curse" subtype is because there will be several cards that refer to "curses". There is no reason they couldnt just change all references to curses to "enchanted player".

the fact that they saw fit to give fight it's own keyword means that this ability is going to start turning up on a lot more cards in the future.

Originally I was really excited about Innistrad but upon seeing the abilities and mechanics of this set I have gnawing dread in the back of my mind that this set is going to be terrible.

  • posted a message on Five mechanics and a couple cards.
With the exception of essence drip, all these mechanics are pretty overpowered. But then that's a common occurrence amongst many would-be card designers- wanting to make something cool and awesome rather than balanced. I've done that myself numerous times.

Essence drip is nothing but a drawback and as such no one would ever play with those cards. An ability or mechanic needs to give something to the player or give them access to new strategies and synergies, essence drip just takes something away.
