I don't think Lotleth Troll is a good blocker when Lingering Souls is in the format. I'm just saying I would rather have 4 blockers than 1 with regenerate.
Updated the deck a bit more with better success. I think I might play Restoration Angel because Thragtusk is in now. Let me know if someone else is testing or any ideas.
Lands would be different depending on what's in the deck. Might need more board sweepers and I haven't updated it for Dragon's Maze yet. I really like Thragtusk in the deck for another win condition as well.
I don't think this is about what's the better deck. Running green for Thragtusk and red for maybe Rakdos Return is one of the reasons to go 5 color. UWR and UWB are different decks that do different things. Also when I draw Chromatic Lantern my mana is fine. I just don't know what or how many lands I should play.
Since the lands in standard are almost perfect right now I wanted to make a 5 color control deck. I'm having a lot of trouble with the land base right now. The deck is fairing okay against most decks right now.
Hey, Hakai Studios! Could I get a U/B control sig please? I would like it to have Wurmcoil Engine, Grave Titan, Snapcaster Mage, Karn Liberated, and Consecrated Sphinx in the sig with Snapcaster Mage in the middle. I don't mind where the other creatures and Karn are. Also instead of U/B Control being on the sig could you guys have it say Snapcaster Control. I would like the sig kind of centered around Snapcaster if you know what I mean. I'll gladly put your guy's link in my sig as well.
Edit: Also could it have my username somewhere on it? Thanks!
Here's my list I posted with the sideboard I had for a small 4 round tourny tonight. Sideboard is still funky as I went there intending to just play RDW, but was able to trade/borrow to be able to finish the MD of RUG. Turned out really well in fact, finishing 3-1.
Round 1 - UW Blade 2-1 W
He keeps mediocre hands and can't stop Primal Hunter. Mayor was AMAZING after board.
Round 2 - Solar Flare 2-1 W
He mulls to six, I am stuck on 3 lands with a Skinshifter and flipped Daybreak, and he can't answer 8 damage a turn with counter back up. Second win of the match goes just as well with help from Thrun, Primal Hunter, and a little Snapcaster shenanigins.
Round 3 - Solar Flare 2-0 W
He has no sideboard and can't deal with Thrun and friends.
Round 4 - Esper Control (Not Solar Flare) 0-2 L
He's running a lot of targeted removal and target player sacs a creature effects. Match up is much different then against Solar Flares reanimation style as he was running nothing like that, but it appears I should still have a decent match up as long as I play well.
But mulling to 5 with a mediocre hand gets me stuck on lands and goes no where, game two, mull to 6 with a decent hand, but then drew nothing but off colored spells and zero threats. Case of the run bads.
Overall, RUG is a great call in my meta apparently as so many people are playing Solar Flare or Esper. Sideboard was weak as I haven't played the deck much and having to toss the SB together quick didn't help either. I definitely need to work on the mana base a little. (Save the GQs, there were great everytime and helped me fix in a pinch.) Also the sideboard needs work. Mayors stay for sure though, so good. Had a lot of fun playing the deck and am looking forward to testing some more.
How do you feel about the Brimstone Volley and Snapcaster deal? Was it worth it? Were you getting 5 damage most of the time?
Any tips on the red decks out there? I'm running a good enough removal suite such as Galvanic Blast, Geist Flame, and Incinerate. Also running Tree of Redemption. Any plays during the game I should look out for?
