i was watching a game where a 30+ year old guy was getting his butt kicked by a (netdeck) 12-13 year old. I saw him draw 2 cards, did a double take. Started paying attention to his hands. He drew 3 cards on the next turn. I immediately called him out (uh hey dude, you realize you are supposed to draw 1 right? You just drew 5 cards in 2 turns), he promptly packed his things up and left. Never saw him again.
douchebag thought he could pull one over on the little kid, lol.
i dont think its about appeasing collectors, it's about the companies bottom line. If they hurt the long-term "collectability" prospects of the game they would see revenue drop. I mean I know several guys that buy booster CASES of value sets just to save up certain mythics for later, etc.
I mostly just think it is weird. I almost never offer a handshake or say 'good game'.
If you win and offer to shake my hand or say good game and it wasn't a good game I will tear into you.
You drafted a crap deck and I got stuck on 3 lands the whole game and you Destroy the Evidenced 1 of my 3 lands? You say 'good game'...don't expect me to take that sitting down.
I only ever handshake/gg when the game was actually a good, close, interesting game.
if you tear into me for offering a handshake at my store, you might get kicked out
"really horrible" come on, no its not. You can top off your curve with some removal, and it could be a blow-out. Not first pick, but you won't see it make its way around the table, mark my words.
doesnt impact the board state, unless you consider it a weak removal for 4cmc. Not a very good PW. That said, definately a slot in a big black EDH deck or something.
might be relevant in the future if they print a powerful nonbasic swamp that does something neat.
When Serra Avatar is put into the graveyard, its 2nd ability is triggered and goes on the stack. Anything that uses the stack can be responded to. You can respond to it with a flashed reanimate.
However, that sounds bad since you are paying 7 life, making him weaker. But I digest.
why is everyone assuming that a deck completely comprised of sweepers would be in any way competitive? its not like you see people winning tourneys with 4 DOJ and 4 Terminus
I've been running this decklist with pretty good success. One problem I've been having is control decks, specifically heavy permission. As you can see, almost all of my sideboard is dedicated for control decks.
I have not had a whole lot of testing vs. Wolf Run decks... I am not sure what to side in against them.
Anyone have any variants for a stronger game vs. control/ramp without hurting the aggro game too much? My meta is pretty aggro-heavy and I easily stomp them every time.
The single elixir of immortality is for a couple mill decks that people run at my LGS. Conscripts are for when they try to get cute with planeswalkers.
So many times my wurmcoil gets exiled, that i am half-tempted to run 2 Phyrexia's Core to at least get some value from him. Also, it would be nice to steal a wurmcoil with conscripts then sac it. What do you guys think?
I could also change the side to 2 Nihil Spellbomb and 1 Swamp instead of Surgicals... hmm. Or perhaps squeeze in a swamp mainboard to free up the sideboard slot.
I have been testing this list on cockatrice quite a bit.
I am sure you've seen the block contructed miracles.dec. This is the same but I added red for desperate ravings and bonfire.
Desperate ravings is an absolute all-star, it keeps your hand completely full, you'll never miss a land drop, and when you get 6+ mana you'll never be wanting for something to spend it on.
Bonfire is a pretty good replacement for Devastation Tide, but doesn't properly deal with alot of the threats out there. In any case, its another wincon, you can cast it, and Noxious Revival it, and then keep doing that.
VS aggro it's quite strong, you can count on a sweeper or a flood of angels coming up by turn 5 at least. It slows them down quite alot. Game 2 side in whipflares and souls and the swamp, and it gets even better.
Vs Control - Pretty good, although a resolved titan can be somewhat difficult to deal with if you don't have a sweeper. I will try some mainboard oblivion rings to deal with these large threats. The good news is that their counterspells are generally being eaten up pretty early by the miracles. A resolved Tamiyo usually spells game over for them.
Vs. Frites - Easy, their mana dorks are constantly being destroyed and even Elesh Norn cannot do anything against 1 million angels. However, I usually won by sweeping the mana dorks, resolving a Tamiyo, and then taking extra turns to the win.
Vs BW Tokens - This is the main reason whipflare is in the SB. It's pretty difficult with all the recurring spirits they have - pretty easy to kill your tamiyo. Siding in surgicals, lingering souls and whipflare helps a ton game 2 and 3 though.
Vs Delver - I havn't had the chance to test against this. I think it can be strong, delver will have trouble dealing with that many angels.

That kinda stuff makes them alot of money

just toss in card advantage and tons of sweepers to control the board. make sure to incude a boseiju, who shelters all !

its worst is pretty bad, then. dispatch is far too inconsistent.
