My favorite type of "party" to go to is one where I have AT MOST seven people over and we hang, talk, maybe play games (video games, board games, mtg, etc).
I helped a friend open a box of worldwake... and pulled 2 Jaces in a row...
That's about the best luck I've gotten. I actually have fairly good luck as long as I'm opening packs for other people. So far, the count is something like 8 jaces, some primeval titans when they were expensive, a few Sorins out of Dark Ascension... all out of other peoples' boxes...
I have eight Devil's Plays that I pulled in eight consecutive drafts. I cannot tell if this is good or bad, because the card won me six of the eight...
I was talking to a friend of mine who is a fan of a show called My Little Pony. He was saying how they are trying to form an official religion in the US based on the show.
This lead me to wonder, could the same be achieved by MTG players? That is, does the philosophy of the five colors and logic of the color pie lend themselves to being a religion? Discuss.
I think that the idea of a religion is, you know, believing the mythology. I think I'd crack up if someone thought Magic lore was real.
Also, I wonder what your friend was talking about. As a brony myself who frequents the bigger websites often, I have never heard anything of the like
Every single person in my playgroup actually plays the game instead of, y'know, crying about some broken card or other. Don't like counterspells? Stick a turn 2 Birthing Pod off a dork, or play around them.
The only cards that we have banned are ones on the ban list for the relevant format.
Cape Fear Games
1. Great Staff - I cannot stress enough that the people working here are helpful, knowledgeable, and pleasant.
2. There's always someone to play with - the store allows people to play whatever games they want, and there's always people there to play with.
3. Great Selection - CFG has always had almost all the cards I needed in stock, and when they haven't, there was probably someone to trade with.
4. Frequent, Competitive events - I think they have some sort of tournament every other day... Monday pauper, Wednesday draft, FNM, free tournaments on the weekend.
5. It's not just Magic - the store also has board games, yu-gi-oh, pokemon cards, some of the more obscure games, minis games... as someone who plays a ton of different games (though few competitively), I appreciate having easy access at good prices.
Comments/Honorable Mention: They are next to a Chinese place, a sub place, and a shopping mall. I can always find a meal if I'm hungry there.
(This is almost card-for-card the list that my friend has been running with great success at our local shop. He doesn't run Temporal Isolation, but I think that is the best Pacifism effect in modern for 2 mana.)
EDIT: If you think your meta is going to have a lot of decks that swapped removal for removal auras, this deck should work wonders as the only flash removal aura I can think of is Temporal Isolation, and that doesn't affect the combo at all.
Frogmite: Hmm this looks pretty neat, but isn't it a little bit outclassed by Court Homunculus? Just a thought...
This entirely depends on how you build. The main difference is that after turn 1-2 this guy will be free. Depending on how many colorless lands you run, the extra white mana can be a life-saver (drop frogmite and tempered steel turn 3 instead of waiting, for instance.
Mishra's Factory: This looks like a bad Inkmoth Nexus lol, what makes it good in my deck? Inkmoth Nexus's main niche is having Infect, providing a back-up plan. I'm writing this down for the "to consider" cards, however.
The main advantage of Mishra's Factory over Inkmoth Nexus is that it can survive 1/x's. If the opponent has a 1/1 creature attacking or blocking, I'd rather swing through or kill the blocker than trade a land. To be perfectly honest, I would run both.
Swords to Plowshares: I've heard of this card and your description is far from being an exageration. I really want this card in my deck, now that I have seen it. What do I remove and what do I take out for its place? Also... are you sure having 8 removal spells isn't too much? It might slow me down a little...
I'd suggest dropping the dispatches entirely for the StP. It's a better card in most cases. At least a split if you want to keep dispatch.
I have a question about this. Your banlist says "and any duel-deck." Does this mean that cards reprinted in the decks that aren't in the other allowed sets can be played?
Because if so, there are some cards that should definitely considered:
Frogmite Mishra's Factory Thoughtcast if you are willing to splash Swords to Plowshares the best removal spell in white (maybe the best in the game). Infinitely better than dispatch because you won't always have metalcraft, especially after a sweeper.
Mox Opal... I tried it and I must say it helped a few times. There's only one thing I absolutely HATE about this card: it's Legendary. I feel like I'm drawing blanks after I put one into play. And it happens quite often. Sure, it speeds up the process... but it always slows me down after drawing a second or even a third one. Also, there is no space left for Mox Opal in this deck. Tell me what to get rid off and maybe I'll reconsider it. Etched Champion was already talked about earlier and Steel Overseer is already in the deck.
While mox opal is a dead draw in multiples, I think that the acceleration it gives warrants at least a 2 of. You could probably afford to drop a Glint Hawk Idol and either a Vault Skirge or Court Homunculus for it.
My biggest one is ripping new players off. Just a few weeks ago one of the kids in my club at school brought in a box of old magic cards to show us/play with, and if I hadn't arrived when I did and looked through, another guy said he was going to offer $60 for the collection...
I only got the combo off once, sadly, but it was epic.
My opponent was playing a R/B deck that drafted a ton of removal and lots of little creatures. I ended up playing U/G with 3 avacyn's pilgrims and a bunch of fliers.
He manages to get me to 3 life before I manage to stop drawing lands, but I managed to draw the Essence and the Back From the Brink one after another. Next thing he knew he was facing down 10 Essences of the Wild... Needless to say, my opponent scooped

As long as both people in the trade are using the same site, I don't particularly care.

Another possible card to run is Darksteel Citadel. Would help with frogmite, and your Court Homunculus, will always be pumped.

Thoughtcast if you are willing to splash

The 1000 count box had unlimited duals, WB Timetwister, a playset of Bazaar of Baghdad...
It just sickens me.
You're actually supposed to shuffle your opponent's deck when he presents.

Also, have you given any thought to isochron scepter? It's really, really good with lightning helix and magma jet.
