Get ready for a Calcano run. His UB Aristocrat deck tore it up today and supposedly stomped the meta all during his testing. No one has seen the complete decklist yet so you can get a bit of a jump on the masses if it becomes popular which it will if it's as good as it seems. Liliana and Bloodsoaked Champion are probably the biggest gainers from the deck. Probably see another jump in Polluted Delta too.

"Wait until the Pro Tour", they said.

"The format hasn't been solved yet, we haven't even seen the PT lists", they said.

Uh huh. Sure. No super secret UR Thopter technology to be found in this metagame. Just more of the same Sick

    ???

Calcano's deck looks better than UR Thopter. Just because fewer people discovered it (so far only heard about his team toying with it) doesn't make it any less innovative/strong/awesome.

I do agree many of the Pros got lazy this PT from most of the interviews but we'll just have to see what shakes out tomorrow.

I don't think many Eldrazi will see play when they can be chump killed by death touch raptors all day. It will be Dragons who make a resurgence as they fly over.

There's a TON of "exile" in BFZ so really doubt Raptors do much anymore.

My bet is we see more than a few Silkwrap & Stasis Snare + Wasteland Strangler/other processors. Likely Gideon is here too but they could go big into Eldrazi.

The only "discard deck" I can think of in Legacy is The Gate, and it runs 0 copies of The Rack and 0 copies of Storm World. 8Rack in Modern plays The Rack and would play Storm World if it were ever reprinted to be Modern-legal, but it's on the Reserved List. (Note: this does not conflict with my previous post: 8Rack is not a tiered deck, and by tiered I mean Tier 1/Tier 2.)

Anyone buying a Storm World for $35-60 is a moron or a jokester with too much money laughing to themselves about how they're totally cranking TCGplayer.

Um, there's this Legacy/eternal deck called Pox which has existed since Ice Age.

Pox was a discard only deck for about 15+ years... only recently have alot of versions toned down on the discard. Nevertheless, most still use Hymn to Tourach and all the Pox effects are actually discard. Point being, there is multiple top8 (and quite a few 10+ finishes) Pox decks (mostly smallish tournaments) in the last ~5years that use the rack as a kill card. I COMPLETELY agree Storm World is a stretch especially as I personally tested it a few years ago BUT, there is definitely merit for brewing especially with new cards coming out all the time. Don't forget Blightning is a real card if you splash red in Pox :p

Spell Shrivel looks like a staple on standard. And sideboard paly in modern.

Standard maybe, but Dissipate is strictly better in older formats.

Dissipate costs 1UU. Spell Shrivel costs 2U. Therefore, Dissipate cannot be strictly better, because Spell Shrivel has less colored mana requirement.
It drives me up the wall when people say "strictly better" when it isn't.

When people say "strickly better" it's almost always referring to what the card does and not the entire card. Spell Shrivel doesn't hard counter and Dissapate does so yeah there isn't a single deck in any eternal format that would want a Spell Shrivel especially when there's similar "mana leaks" for 1cc or 2cc which also only cost a single U.

There is no big sleeper in this set at least similar in power to Jace, Hangarback, or something like Spellskite was. Jace really isn't a good example either as many thought he WAS this powerful. Some even liked Hangarback (go check my post on page 1 :P). But, yes, both had higher ceilings than most thought. I'm sure there will be some cards that spike in BFZ, but it will be because of that's all we got and not power level.

Chandra in winning deck $8 in stock.

Jace not in winning deck $80 sold out.

I'll never understand the psychology behind MTG price spikes. Some cards are just subject to hype supernovas.

How many decks outside Standard are playing Chandra?

Yes, Chandra is completely unplayable in other formats. Jace is played a bit in other formats, but his real price has come from Standard. People all want to play a deck with Jace and Siege Rhino (or whatever else). Five color manabases and powerful cards are fun and Jace makes it come together.

But I think his point was that everyone is panicking and buying Jace, thinking that's all they can play in Standard, when there are (a few) other choices. I nearly panic bought myself, but it just was too high. I kind of regret not buying them at the beginning of the day at $216 for a play set, but not really because that's a lot for a Modern player to try in Esper Goryo's Gifts.

Chandra is most certainly playable in Modern though it's obviously debatable on how good said deck is. Nevertheless, there are a ton of 1-2cc drops that fuel Chandra in Modern in not only flipping but protecting from removal as your opponent uses all their Lightning Bolts on your Goblin Guides. So "completely unplayable" is far from accurate at least for Modern.

Jace is spiking mostly because he just works so well with every deck type in current standard. You can play him in a deck with 1-5colors and there's a ton of synergy with so many cards. And yes, he's certainly playable in multiple formats but standard is a huge driver right now with just how many decks can utilize him. Is he too high? Probably... but if you actually look at completed listings on eBay his price didn't jump "that" much from the most recent spike.

^^LOL, someone has never played the rack in Legacy WHICH has seen plenty of top16s throughout the years. No one is saying Storm World is breaking the format (yet, lol) but comparing it to other actual unplayable jank which has seen similar price jumps is naive.

Looks like Storm World are firing for $35-$60 on eBay with very, very few in-stock on mtgplayer.

All of these with similar "marks" that I've seen in-hand aren't really "damage." All it is is excess foiling process that bleeds onto the edge. Sure, some might not like it but it really doesn't take away from the card, IMO, and most that I've talked to don't mind. There's a fair amount of pack-pulled foils with marks like this on edges though it does seem more prevalent on these Expeditions.

    Nobody still cares.

Lol, that's getting to be an insane multiplier if they actually sell for $30+... pretty sure they were ~$3 not too long ago when I dabbled with the hymn(discard)/pox B/R. If Moggcatcher (and countless other niche cards) can do something in Legacy, so can Storm World. I mean Chains of Mephistopheles intiially was limited to only SB in Pox decks and jumped to $100... now it's used even more and is $300+. Obviously people care about Legend rares.

Looks like there are zero on TCGplayer.

A couple years ago (when the B rack enchantment came out) I tried to build a Legacy Rack/Pox BR deck which included Storm World that was actually not horrible. I'd LOVE to see someone do something with Storm World. With that said, it is an 'enchant world' so likely will never be a 4-of... nevertheless it is a rare from Legends.

    Look for cards that are:
    Under $10
    Rare
    Reserve List
Playable (even in only marginally) in any format.

It doesn't take much to cause them to go into orbit though. (I think) In early 2014 I bought out TCGplayer's supply of sub-$2 Caverns of Despair - I think it was something like 8 copies - and saw the price shift overnight. I'm not saying that was a huge change, but for $20 I got a card to move. The card is almost unplayable outside some RWU Pillowfort EDH decks, but it follows my first 3 rules and one implied by your own question: Card from Legends, AN, or Antiquities.

Pretty much. These cards are OLD. To some they might call it market manipulation but to others they call it market correction.

Snagged 14 today. Hoping for at least 6 more, really would like to get 16 more.

Right here, folks, right here is why you are having a hard time finding fatpacks. Not lower productions by WoC, but by scalpers like this. There is no reason you can justify to me why a single player needs 30 fatpacks unless they are simply trying to turn a profit on the land packs.

LOL, what is 9 boosters going to get you? MAYBE one mythic. Last time I checked most decks contained x4 of a card. Oh and some people like to play with all of the same art land AND trade cards... yeah... TRADE.

Buying 10+ cases of a product and depleting boosters for a local player base is one thing but there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with buying ~20 fat packs. Is there a line you can cross? Kinda, maybe, sorta. But, this free market capitalization at work peeps. If you don't like it then don't play a CollectibleCardGame.

  • posted a message on expedition full art fetches prices thoughts?
^^Exactly. Some of us were trying to warn others and then there were twitter feeds and other mtg chatter that drove that hype wagon.

Also foil Mythics are slightly more common than 1 per case so if we have 25 (expeditions) vs. 15 (typical mythics in a set) then we are seeing a pretty accurate and ANNOUNCED (= foil mythics or slightly more common because 25 vs. 15) "odds."

Undergrowth Champion's price has exploded in past two days, anyone got any insights on this price increase? Has some pro player hyped it to the stratosphere or something?

It's really silly when we have a 2G 1/1 trampler that gets counters much more easily (spells by both players). Besides hard removal is much, much more common than "damage" removal especially post rotation.

Not a full man-land cycle, LOL. This set just went from barely good because of expedition + new duals + man-lands + full art basics TO average... yet inflated box prices.

This set is so, so bad outside of expeditions and new duals and a couple man-lands...
