In Tom Ross's Boss Sligh list, can somrone explain to me against what decks do the 3 Peak Eruption come in? Lately they have been my least useful card in the SB. :p

If I remember correctly, Tom Ross said he would bring it in against Mardu Midrange to disrupt their mana, keeping Butcher off the field for another turn.

I don't think it will see play. There is much better removal in the format that hits more than just mutavault.

    First you say this:

Seems kind of silly to play white or green creatures until after rotation. No wonder everybody plays black, blue, red, or control.

    Then this:
    Quote from EagleEyeCherry
I am just stating there is no reason to run Green/White aggro with this guy around..

So is it just G/W aggro that's not worth it (like you said in the quote directly above)? Or all G or W creatures?

And am I understanding correctly that you are writing off all G and W creatures because of one card?

I wouldn't advise dropping Devour Flesh entirely. It's strong against Blood Baron, which I'm assuming will still be popular after BNG releases. Yes, Thoughtseize can also take care of BB, but if they topdeck Baron and you're without DF, you're gonna have a bad time.

Get on Deckbox.com and start trading the cards you don't want/need/use for the cards to build MBD. It might take a little while, but the only money you'll be out is shipping costs.

Just read Reid Duke's article on Thoughtseize. Made me re-evaluate my SB plans.

Wraith! Didn't realize you were an advocate for MBC. I tried playing a mixture of MBC and B aggro at the beginning of the season. Didn't work all that great, but it had it's moments. After looking at B aggro and MBC these past few weeks, I've decided that MBC is the deck to play over aggro. I just can't deny how powerful Gary is.

I'm running a list very similar to Turtenwald's. I don't want to get rid of my last Whip in the deck though. I've had some ridiculous games where I ended up with over 50 life.

Either Illness or Shrivel in the SB is interesting. I think either would do the job against AtL, but AtL isn't hugely popular right now. Shrivel might have the edge as it affects not just tokens.

(Please don't flame, just asking serious questions)

How relevant is Soldier of the Pantheon in the current meta overall?

Where do you think he would rank against Rakdos Cackler and Firedrinker Satyr?

    Thanks <3

I think the Soldier is very relevant for a couple reasons.

    1. Most importantly, it has 2 power for W.

    2. There are a number of very powerful multicolored spells right now, especially hybrid mana spells, that Soldier not only has protection from, but that gain you life whenever they are cast.

I don't think it's fair to call the suggestion of Rakdos Charm idiotic. Of course, people all have their own opinions. That being said, Rakdos Charm is probably not the way to go. Yes, it can hurt Mono U when the conditions are right, but targeted removal (Ultimate Price, Doom Blade) is probably the better way to take care of Master of Waves. Rakdos Charm is just too much of a conditional card to really be effective. Mogis's Marauder (which is in the MD) is very strong against mono U.

Agree on adding Lightning Strike to take care of Nightveil Specter and Tidebinder Mage. You might also consider either Hero's Downfall or Dreadbore for Jace. I personally prefer Downfall because it's an instant and it can hit Master of Waves. Thoughtseize in the SB is also helpful in taking out Thassa.

It would help to post your list. When I hear "removal", that means any of a number of things.

It's definitely not dead. Probably one of the most popular decks right now. But it's evolving. Splashing other colors, most notably green, for more flexibility.

I love how you counted his damage if he gets shocked or lightning struck. People tend to cast that before combat damage dood.

    Turn 1: Mountain; Satyr
Turn 2: Mountain; attack with Satyr and pump for 1, dealing 1 damage to you. Satyr gets shocked dealing 2 to you. You are now at 17 and your opponent is at 20.

    Turn 1: Mountain; Satyr
Turn 2: Mountain; attack with Satyr and pump for 1, dealing 3 damage to your opponent, and 1 damage to you
Turn 3: Mountain; attack with Satyr and pump for 1, dealing 1 damage to you. Satyr gets lightning struck dealing 3 to you. You are now at 15 and your opponent at 17.

In each of the above cases you are doing a total of 1 damage less to your opponent, but your life total remains at 20 in both. Is dealing 1 additional damage worth taking 3? Worth taking 5? If you say yes to either then think of it this way, would his pump ability be worth using if it added +1 power and dealt 3 damage to you? I'd think not.

I was goldfishing to make a point. Satyr deals more damage overall than Bellows. Your opponents aren't going to have all the answers all the time. If you see that they have answers game one, you adjust for game two.

Anyways, I'm confident your just trolling at this point. I've said what I came here to say. On to more important things.

In order for the Satyr damage to not matter, he has to get in there 3 times unblocked, which doesn't happen, therefore it matters. If he gets in there less than 3 times, you're taking more damage from him than your opponent is. It would be like casting a Char that dealt 5 to you.

I can't even begin to form an argument against such complete and utter rubbish. In no way does this make any sense.

How are you taking more damage than your opponent if Satyr hits less than 3 times?

Let's look at a very simple progression:

    Turn 1: Mountain; Satyr
Turn 2: Mountain; attack with Satyr and pump for 1, dealing 3 damage to your opponent, and 1 damage to you
Turn 3: Mountain; attack with Satyr and pump for 1, dealing 3 damage to your opponent, and 1 damage to you

At this point, you've dealt 6 damage, and have taken 2. This is what makes Satyr worth playing. Bellows would only have done 4 damage at this point. And if Satyr gets hit with Shock, oh well. You've still done 6 damage to their 4. What if he gets hit with Lightning Strike? Well you've still done 6 damage to their 5. And if they use something like Mizzium Mortars? Good. That Mortars now can't be used on something else.

And whose to say your opponent is always going to be playing burn for removal? Doom Blade and Hero's Downfall are very prevalent in Standard right now.

Also, be smart about sideboarding. Up against Aggro? Take out Satyr in favor of something like Frostburn Weird. Midrange got you down? Replace Satyr with threaten effects and Mortars.

Anti-competitive discussion is prohibited. This includes complaints about netdecking, promotion of cards for reasons other than their playability, and suggesting objectively inferior decks and cards.

Bellows Lizard is inferior to Firedrinker Satyr. Satyr is a 2/1 for R compared to Bellows being a 1/1 for R. The drawback to Satyr doesn't matter to the overall objective of the deck. Your life total doesn't matter, as long as you can do more damage faster.
