Oct 29, 2012Self Medicated posted a message on Standard Rakdos AggroRan this list for RTR Gameday. Made top 8, then lost in first round. I don't think Bump in the Night contributed at all, so I am cutting it from the list. On the other hand, Blood Artist was an all star and I'm sorry I ever doubted it. Updated list now posted.Posted in: Self Medicated's Pharmacy

My new Green list destroyed my Naya list. I decided to maindeck a couple Mental Missteps because of the prevalence of Vapor Snag in the meta. Going to play this list at my next FNM. -

MD:
-2 Gut Shot Because it did nothing for me the entire night.
+1 Strangleroot Geist So resilient and fast. Frustrates opponents.
+1 Phyrexian Metamorph Not THE all star, but one of the most versatile cards in the deck. -
Nov 23, 2011Self Medicated posted a message on [Standard] Mono B AggroCompletely forgot to respond to Mockingbird. Yes, I have heard of the new RUDW. In fact, a buddy of mine at my LGS just built a version of it. I would love to make something like that, I just think it will take some time for me to get the Snapcasters since they're going for $25-$35 (depending on where you look).Posted in: Self Medicated's Pharmacy
I actually think the Lavamancers do very well in this deck. If you run 2-3 of them, chances are you won't see one first turn, instead drawing (hopefully) a Fireslinger or Gut Shot along with a Berserker. I run Dismember in my SB also, so I hope I'm pretty well covered. -
Nov 22, 2011Self Medicated posted a message on [Standard] Mono B AggroI have edited my original post and deck to reflect my conclusions about combining Wolf Run with RDW. It just doesn't work. Wolf Run needs ramp, which the deck doesn't have. And RDW is weakened by diluting the mana base.Posted in: Self Medicated's Pharmacy

Nov 20, 2011Self Medicated posted a message on [Standard] Bant PodI haven't gotten a chance to play it yet, but after virtually no representation at Worlds, I'm not hopeful about the future of Birthing Pod decks. I'm probably going to dismantle this deck and concentrate on RDW and maybe a Wolf Run variant of RDW.Posted in: Self Medicated's Pharmacy

Nov 14, 2011Self Medicated posted a message on [Standard] Mono B AggroMade some adjustments and we'll see if it works. For a while, I had changed the deck to be an exact copy of David Caplan's Worlds top-8 RDW, but it just wasn't my style. I want to try and make it work with the Wolf Runs and without Koth. The mana curve is a little more linear now, and I think it will be more fun to pilot.Posted in: Self Medicated's Pharmacy

Oct 20, 2011Self Medicated posted a message on [Standard] Naya PodThe best thing about Noxious Revival is it can potentially only cost 1 to return a creature to your deck and immediately pod into it! Or use it to start your pod chain over.Posted in: Self Medicated's Pharmacy
I love Hero of Bladehold. Especially with Gavony Township on the board. I think Naya overall is very strong. You get G for ramp (and pod of course), W for the splicers, heroes and Sun Titan recursion, and R for the red hero, Inferno Titan, and some burn. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
If I remember correctly, Tom Ross said he would bring it in against Mardu Midrange to disrupt their mana, keeping Butcher off the field for another turn.
I don't think it will see play. There is much better removal in the format that hits more than just mutavault.
Then this:
So is it just G/W aggro that's not worth it (like you said in the quote directly above)? Or all G or W creatures?
And am I understanding correctly that you are writing off all G and W creatures because of one card?
I'm running a list very similar to Turtenwald's. I don't want to get rid of my last Whip in the deck though. I've had some ridiculous games where I ended up with over 50 life.
Either Illness or Shrivel in the SB is interesting. I think either would do the job against AtL, but AtL isn't hugely popular right now. Shrivel might have the edge as it affects not just tokens.
I think the Soldier is very relevant for a couple reasons.
1. Most importantly, it has 2 power for W.
2. There are a number of very powerful multicolored spells right now, especially hybrid mana spells, that Soldier not only has protection from, but that gain you life whenever they are cast.
I was goldfishing to make a point. Satyr deals more damage overall than Bellows. Your opponents aren't going to have all the answers all the time. If you see that they have answers game one, you adjust for game two.
Anyways, I'm confident your just trolling at this point. I've said what I came here to say. On to more important things.
I can't even begin to form an argument against such complete and utter rubbish. In no way does this make any sense.
How are you taking more damage than your opponent if Satyr hits less than 3 times?
Let's look at a very simple progression:
Turn 1: Mountain; Satyr
Turn 2: Mountain; attack with Satyr and pump for 1, dealing 3 damage to your opponent, and 1 damage to you
Turn 3: Mountain; attack with Satyr and pump for 1, dealing 3 damage to your opponent, and 1 damage to you
At this point, you've dealt 6 damage, and have taken 2. This is what makes Satyr worth playing. Bellows would only have done 4 damage at this point. And if Satyr gets hit with Shock, oh well. You've still done 6 damage to their 4. What if he gets hit with Lightning Strike? Well you've still done 6 damage to their 5. And if they use something like Mizzium Mortars? Good. That Mortars now can't be used on something else.
And whose to say your opponent is always going to be playing burn for removal? Doom Blade and Hero's Downfall are very prevalent in Standard right now.
Also, be smart about sideboarding. Up against Aggro? Take out Satyr in favor of something like Frostburn Weird. Midrange got you down? Replace Satyr with threaten effects and Mortars.
Bellows Lizard is inferior to Firedrinker Satyr. Satyr is a 2/1 for R compared to Bellows being a 1/1 for R. The drawback to Satyr doesn't matter to the overall objective of the deck. Your life total doesn't matter, as long as you can do more damage faster.
