@Alteredartwork: That gift is pretty nice, I had to look at a normal card to see where the card colors ended and where your alter began. To add an image as an attachment, you have to replay (not quick reply), then below the box where you type your post there is an "additional options" section. In there, you can find a "manage attachments" button.
Also, you should be careful of double posting (posting in a thread where you have the last post), I think a mod may yell at you for that. Instead, you can use the "edit post" button to just add stuff on to your previous post.
@stilledsilence: That is awesome! That literally changes how I think about 3D altering... Is the card stable enough to be transported around to where ever you are playing?
Still working on some 3D effects, I need a new blade (mine is pretty dull) and I still don't have any glue... Also, the non-3D harpy is designed to be the last layer (just the claws actually).
I saw someone doing a pack to power where they would alter the less valuable cards (but still playable, like Lightning Bolt) to turn a ~0.25 card into a ~4 dollar "extended art" card. Of course you need to have some sort of artistic skill to do this, but it makes for a much more legitimate attempt (as long as you get enough extra from you pack to cover your initial investment of art supplies).
If you don't do it that way, ask for a throw in of some crap rare from each trade (everyone has a card that they don't need). I am sure that people will be more receptive to this than some lopsided trade.
Thanks everyone for the tips and hints, I will have to try out the different spacer techniques and see which one I like the most. That straw technique does give it an added pop, how stable is the bird part? Do you have to be worried about knocking the bird off?
I may have to hold off and get some good glue instead of using elementary school Elmer's...
It has been a while since I have tried a 3D card, so I was hoping to get some advice on some new techniques. I have only ever done compilations where the layers are always connected to the border, but I have this bird token that I think would look sweet as a 3D. I was wondering what the best way to have "free standing" objects in the middle of the card work out? (I am assuming that I just glue a spacer to the layer below and glue this to the spacer?)
What kind of spacers do you all use? I have been using a card cut out to look like the previous layer as a spacer for each layer, but I am sure there is a better way...
The last thing would be any advice on what kind of glue to use? In the past I think I have used both Elmer's glue and random glue sticks, and both seemed to work fine, but I was wondering if the folks that do this a lot have a better suggestion?
Any insight would be appreciated, hopefully I will have something to share by the weekend.
I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand? I am looking to get a custom playmat made for my friend of his favorite card: Abu Ja'far. But I need something with a better resolution then what i can dig up so far. That being funny enough via this sites wiki http://wiki.mtgsalvation.com/images/1/1d/Abu.jpg
I have been checking a few different sites that i could find with card art but this is not really something i have much practice in and was wondering if you guys had any better sources for tracking this stuff down?

@ Scarth: I am not Bigup, so I am probably wrong... But it looks like he took the face of a Deeptread Merrow and cut out the text box, image, p/t, and name; then pasted it on a True-Name Nemesis. The DCI logo must be from another card and does make it look quite official.
So I creeped on this thread a few weeks back, and was kind of forced to try it. This is my first attempt, any suggestions?
When you cut the card, it makes the edges (where the card was cut) white, and for most cards that does not look too good (it looks like all the Silver Myrs have a white outline) If you take a little extra time, you can use a sharpie or something to color-match the image (so like gray/silver around the myr, green around a tree, stuff like that) It makes the card look a lot nicer (in my opinion)
But the silver myr looks really good, especally for your first time. Keep it up!
I like pile A in Trade 2. Huntsmaster and clifftops could see some serious play in gatecrash, and a stifle is nothing to scoff at either. The market for Mox Diamond and Doubling Season is much lower in pile B, Mox Diamond is in a few Legacy decks and Doubling Season is exclusively EDH/casual. Pile B does have the eternal staple-ish going for it however.
This, and the Doubling SeasonFoil isn't that prized anymore since there is the judge version.
Nothing original here, just had some extra time last night.
Tradgic Slips are banana peels from Mario Kart 64, also an artist (K.E.R.) has one on ebay (it looked easy enough for me to do, so I gave it a try) Sign in Blood is Adolf Hitler's signature. Destroy the Evidence is, of course, Enron's logo.
I tried a Dead Weight as an ACME anvil, but it turned out too dark :/
My problem with Battle of Wits decks is that they are all in on one card. I like decks with a back up plan, Thrumming Stone works well if you are adding 200ish cards to your deck. Choose something like shock (or a crappy version that you can get on the cheap) gives you 8 win conditions.
Dlink is right about the infinate mana combo, I have had people playing this deck against me only be able to get something like 37 copies of Research (Research/Development) and get to add like 150 cards and be short, which sucks.
(edit): If going with method 2, it seems that going through all the trouble to get a Battle of Wits out is not as good as having 200 Eldrazi. If you can't win with 200 Eldrazi, you just aren't meant to win that game.
I don't think you can go wrong with Balance. It could be unbanned in Legacy and if it was, it would skyrocket.
There are some cards that will never be un-banned in legacy, Balance and Skullclamp are at the top of that list. Land Tax does get you thinking about what would happen to things if they become un-banned. I have my Hermit Druid deck built and ready to win the first Legacy event it is legal in

ABU games has a mis-cut one with some pretty high resolution scans.
