since youre playing red/black, you have the option of going for an early game strategy with lots of creatures
    - rakdos cackler x4
    and more of the same

    or

a control midrange strategy with Sire of Insanity to fight control and Mizzium Mortars to fight aggro. So build around these.

What you definitely dont need is the mana production. If you have some really high cost finishers you want the cluestones maybe, but in the aggro definitely not.

You need to decide what you want to do and how you want to win, then eliminate everything from the original list that doesn't jive with your strategy.

This looks very strong to me. Immediate impact vs green/white and anything with life gain effects. Long term power in the form of efficient and instant speed card advantage. A healthy 5/7 indestructible bruiser to defend or smash with.

    All for 4 mana.

I like this, I like where black control is going between all the deck manipulation for life (a classic black trait) and Corrupt and Nightmare being reprinted.

Mono black control may get a chance to shine. For all those devoted, here is your GOD.

Im the first to try shiny new black toys, but I can look at this thing for a few seconds and see that it isn't very strong and almost not worth testing with. Any card that requires your opponents to be asleep at the wheel isn't playable in standard. By that I mean with the abundance of Graveyard hate available in the format your opponent would have to be dumb enough to ignore this in order for you to win with it.

It relies on you maintaining a somewhat large yard to be effective, which means you need to have ways of filling your yard with dudes. That means you need to either pack the deck with creatures and lose out on deck manipulation (try to attrition them out in early combat rounds) or mill yourself which is probably a worse plan because it requires using cards that wont actually help you win just to manipulate the deck so that MAYBE one of your creatures is big at some point.

All around, I'll pass on this and hope to see some stronger rares. The mythics aren't out yet for Black, and I remain devoted....

1 reason why this is so good. Her + 1 and starting loyalty creates a need to commit alot of resources (more than one would want in standard) to eliminating this. Even if she is destroyed on the very next turn, the requirements to do the job without PW specific killers already in hand is going to leave your opponent open to the rest of your threats.

At the very least control will want this to stall the game and create very bad situations for opponents with big creatures.

i think this is a consolidated version of what's been suggested elsewhere, looks good, im just concerned with whether playing the deck NOT to revolve around varolz combos is the best way to play it.

if you're in red, you really should be running Faithless Looting to dig up varolz and throw your fat into the yard early. Yea you can play Death's Shadow and just kill it early but still killing two birds with one faithless looting feels like the better option

I won an unwinnable situation against a Jarad with Stolen Identity. Bombs can really take over games in this format where there isnt much removal and most of it is very conditional.
Slower formats tend to be bomb friendly.

Once again 3-1 on FNM. I lost to a reanimate deck. I had him first game then 2nd he top decked a behemoth to win. 3rd he pulled a sever the bloodline to wipe my demons and I couldn't recover. That's 4 weeks in a row at 3-1 I can't seem to get this deck to 4-0. Very frustrating.

hey can you repost your updated decklist.
i try to keep to mostly black but now with Gaze of Granite and Putrefy coming back I feel like I'd have to be a dope not to include green in my MBC

so this is Pernicious Deed reprint, only sorcery speed, however the enchantment is also sorcery speed; its activation is instant.

    Is this equal to?
    Better than?
    Worse than?

    Pernicious Deed.

This should see play at the Modern level because you don't have access to Deed, however I'm not sure it's better than Deed in legacy due to the ability to bait with Deed and choose when to activate it once it's been resolved.

I still think this card is worth getting into a deck somewhere in eternal formats, if not a serious contender in standard.

Pretty much the only exciting card to me besides Voice of Resurgence.

with the large surplus of yard exiling effects i feel like this guy isnt mainboard material but I could be wrong since he does fill the 2 slot and he has the relevant creature type.

there are certainly ways to get dudes into an opponent's yard early on. Boros humans is a monster and zombies has a pretty good shot at feeding on that strategy.

against control this guy is probably worthless, but then again Rites decks put their guys into the yard for you so it cant be that hard to get Wight big

gruul all the way, Bloodrush is too sick to pass on and the dudes...THE DUDES, they so big

id lose the Mizzium Mortars from the mainboard since theyr not too good without the Overload, and that seems unlikely to be consistent by a relevant time.

if the whole plan is to hit a Guttersnipe and go ape with it, you need more protection.

id run a full boat of dispel and izzet charm to keep him alive

just want to point out this is the first strong black threat to show up in a long time and it looks like the artist threw up on his easel and moved on...
would it kill Carl Critchlow to come out of hiding once in a while?

Now THIS is playable. 5/4 Intimidate for 7? ehh, but now i get anything I want from your yard? HELL YEA!, i'll take that Thragtusk, or maybe I'll take that Angel of whatever and smack you around with it.

i'll gladly spend time building mana up to cast this thing, well done!
