Quote from Hawk7915 »I predicted last week no bans in Standard for exactly the reasons Forsythe said, as well as the additional reasons of:
1) Bans tend to make folks investing in the game nervous and they are releasing a set that I think they feel shaky about (hence the full-art lands)
2) They have no idea what the meta could, should, or may look like now. All their testing was based on BFZ rotating and Copter and Emrakul being legal. They also completely missed CopyCat and dramatically underestimated the power of vehicles. They're lost in the woods, so why not just see what the pros cook up before doing something that hurts player and investor confidence?
3) The advent of extra ban's per year means we are unlikely to ever see bans right before a set releases again unless the meta is truly unsalveagable.
Not super shocked at the banning of Top, but it does completely gut the Legacy metagame. Happy to nab more for my EDH decks though.
Quote from nighthawkpyromancer »What do you think about miscalculation since this screams for a good counter and we have cycling?
Nothing will rotate out when Amonkhet rotates in. Battle for Zendikar block and Shadows over Innistrad block will rotate out when the fall (NH) set rotates in later this year.
Quote from lyonhaert »Pull From Eternity won't stop him. His delayed trigger will return him from the graveyard, too. Because of his wording, experienced Norin players will put him in the command zone instead of exile and PFE won't be able to target the card, but the delayed trigger will still return him. This is to avoid his delayed trigger from being Stifled or Time Stopped in some way once it's on the stack. If he's in the command zone, he can just be recast.
Activated ability direct damage (Grim Lavamancer, Goblin Sharpshooter, Marath, Will of the Wild) or power/toughness reduction (Liliana of the Dark Realms, Brood Butcher) will do it, as will effects like Engineered Explosives (as Zydermann mentioned), Pernicious Deed, and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. So will triggered abilities (Massacre Wurm) as long as it is caused by something that doesn't trigger Norin such as an activated ability or trigger (Doomed Necromancer, Nim Deathmantle, Chainer, Dementia Master, Meren of Clan Nel Toth).
Sometimes Norin himself won't be the problem, but Grinning Ignus or Mogg War Marshal with Cloudstone Curio or Feldon of the Third Path. There's usually redundancy in Norin decks. Torpor Orb and Hushwing Gryff are ways to deal with Norin's engines, but the deck usually has solutions to those, too. And other players are likely to blow them up, too.
(Yes, the first deck in my sig is Norin. I don't blame you for seeking solutions.)
Quote from Lord Seth » Hypnotic Specter is more like, I don't know, Wild Nacatl? Valakut?
Quote from planeswalker7976Ummm......Thragtusk.....Bonfire.......Lingering Souls.....those cards literally ARE the format.
Zombies, Bant/Naya/GW aggro, 4c/5c Control/Goodstuffs, Jund Midrange all play Thragtusk.
Tokens, Esper Control, Junk, Reanimator, 4c/5c Control/Good Stuffs all play Lingering Souls.
Finally, Bonfire is played in Grixis Control, Jund Midrange, UWR/UR/4c/5c Control and Tempo, 4c/5c Goodstuffs, Naya Aggro, Naya Midrange, and Jund/BR Zombies.
